    no ethernet

      Simple fix with USB.

      • Interested in the USB fix. Is it enough to just get a USB-to-Ethernet cable and Android TV will do the rest, or do we need an app installed to make it work?

      • +1

Is it enough to just get a USB-to-Ethernet cable

Yes, should be. That's the case with my Nexus TV (the original Android TV device) with an Apple adapter, I don't see why the Mi Box would be different.

or do we need an app installed to make it work?

No, Android nativity supports USB Ethernet adapters.

  • Does anyone know if the mi box supports google cast and if it does, what firmware version it supports?

You can check by doing this: https://support.google.com/googlehome/answer/7188572

Would love it if anyone could help!

    • +3

Yes, but Netflix doesn't work - it just opens their app when you cast to it (Netflix issue, not for Google to resolve).

      • +1

why do you need to cast netflix with a box installed with netflix?

        • +1

so you can control it with your phone or whatever you're casting it with.

        • +1

You don't need to but the last guy asked if Googlecast worked so I answered as completely as I could lest he should want to for some reason only to find that it doesn't work

          @minijumbuk:

Umm, you do know there's an Android TV remote app, right? Why you'd want to use your phone is beyond me but.

        • Want to use Google Home command

Unfortunately Android TV Netflix is not supported yet

    • +5

      Wow bad advice.

    • Completetly disagree. For not much more than I paid for my Chromecast, this does everything that that does, but comes with a remote with mic. Also has built in apps so it's not completely useless if I decide to do something else with my phone. My kids use ours all the time for Netflix, YouTube Kids, Kodi and ABC iview. They don't have to touch a tablet or phone to do so.

    • +1

obviously haven't used one lol, i wish I knew about android boxes before I bought a chromecast

  • +2

keeps coming up as 105.13AUD for me

    • +2

Seems to be if I don't sign in, I get the special. ????????

      • I've tried both signed in and not signed in and I cant get the price? Is the sale over already?

    • +4

      i'm also getting 105aud, can't get 71aud.

  • +4

Have two of these for the house. Same price as Chromecast Ultra but with way more features. This with a 'dumb' TV is better than a 'smart' TV imo

    • +1

      Currently using it for:
      NES/SNES emulators
      US Netflix via VPN
      Android Games

      win

FYI, Only EU and UK adaptors.

    • +1

Just request an aussie adapter during your order and they usually oblige.

The Mi Box has turned out to be an awesome box, with every FTA catchup bar 9Now (which can be cast), plus Foxtel Now unofficially available:

    https://mega.nz/#F!fodnEJ7K!00mMtLx9s_DPsKeFnCtYKA

(use X-Plore to install from USB, then TV App Repo to create shortcut icon in launcher)

    • +1

Yes, having Foxtel Now with the recent hack has completed this box for my simple needs - Kodi/Netflix/Foxtel

    • stan work? i think i read somewhere it doesnt and has to side load?

      • Yeah they have a native Android TV app now.

  • Will shipping take an eternity?

    • +1

they sell it via eBay if you don't like waiting 14 days

  • +3

Yeah I bought one during the last sale for abit more and I can say it's a awesome box indeed. Fast and smooth playback of both local and streamed files. I use it with LocalCast off my phone with no issues or lag. Plays games great too. Highly recommended.

  • +1

    These things are great.

Only weakness is some optical out issues. The Android Plex app is not very good, its better to use the official kodi (or SPMC fork) Plex add-on as pass through generally works correctly, but can't down sample certain streams correctly via optical/spdif - such as DTS-HD or e-AC3.

Also would be a lot better if they had a network port, nonetheless I find with good wifi it does suffice for 1080p. I don't have the facility for 4k to comment.

    • +1

Agree with all this. The problem with the plex app is it doesn't close when you exit which can cause issues, so I've been using the kodi add on for plex and it's been perfect. Great box for catch up tv and Netflix too. Highly recommend.

    • I can play 4K UHD (10bit HEVC) content fine in kodi across wifi with one of these boxes, no stuttering minimal lag. However the box does get a bit warm smashing 4k content for hours on end so i set up a fan wired into a 9v power adapter for some silent cooling.
It has no issue with 4k netflix.

  • Any idea if we can update android tv 7.0 with this mibox?

    Worried lack of update available

    • I think they released a beta months ago, but never bothered to do a final release.

      • I read somewhere that this beta 7.0 version is not 100% compatible.. some features or remote not working properly.. any insights?

    • +1

works 100% without nougat, what feature do you require from Nougat on a mibox??

      • At this moment nothing that I need from nougat. But it's more like future proof whether I can still continue using this box 2yrs down the road

If not mistaken, this mibox was launch in mid 2016, it's more than a year and without update firmware..so I bet there'll never be official update from xiaomi

Any idea if new generation mibox will be out in 2018?

        • +1

the next gen you're looking for is an NVidia Shield TV, don't think Xiaomi is making a new generation other than updating to Android N / Android O as both Android version support the current hardware

        • +1

          @jayzorz:

Sounds good if xiaomi provide and official firmware update. Will wait for that… I'm just a casual user , only use it for YouTube and kodi

      • Oreo Android TV's interface is so much better. Lacking any chance of getting that is a big negative.

        • I have an old mibox running android 4 kit Kat, stuck at this and couldn't update kodi to v17 due to lack of firmware upgrade

So, I rather wait for android tv7 available for mibox before purchasing another unit

  • About to order one to try, which adapter option do I select for Au?

    • +1

strange, when the page loads I can see $71.72aud but once the page is fully loaded it reverts back to $105

  • So no sign in and get the deal price, signing in causing the price to jump..

  • Also add code ELEC to get $30AU off

  • How does this compare to an Intel Compute stick? In terms of power/performance? Thanks

    • +1

quite smooth honestly, better than your average mid range android phone

    • +2

As much as I love my Compute Stick (STK1AW32SC), I would go for the Mi Box for a media player.

The Mi Box can play 10bit HEVC (Compute Sick is limited to 8bit) and it's much easier to use from the couch with its excellent bluetooth / voice control remote.

Saying that, the Compute Stick still serves well as a media player (in addition to being able to be used as a normal PC with office, web browsing, all the media streaming apps etc).

      • I'm wanting to use it as a pocket PC- for work (writing code etc). Is the MiBox at all more quick/powerful? I'd run Linux on it

    • +1

This has Android TV, which is different than normal Android boxes. It is much smoother and better interface and also has the correct licences.
The Nvidia Shield also has it, but it is treble the price.

This is well worth that price, but the price shoots up after the page loads.

  • +1

I want to replace my power supply with an equivalent AU one (not just use an adaptor). Anyone know what plug it takes?

    • +3

Not sure of a power supply, but I use the cable below with a USB power supply to power my Mi Box (actually, right now I powering the Mi Box off the Fetch TV USB port using that cable):

      https://www.ebay.com.au/itm/High-quality-USB-to-4-0mmx1-7mm-…

      • perfect thank you.
I have the UK version attached to an adapter and it is huge..

  • +2

I still can't get the price anywhere near $71, is anyone still able to see this price? What am I doing wrong?

  • Is there anyone actually getting the discounted price??

  • +1

I have one it works pretty good, but the updates are pretty slow. Still on 6 with June Update…. pretty slack.

Where as my shield tv is on 7 and October Update. And will be getting O shortly.

  • +2

Are people getting the same as me. Click on the deal link and briefly the lower figure shows then it changes to $105.13 before it can be moved to the cart.

    • same same

    • Yeah, and when the price goes up the "SALE Black Friday" logo appears in the product image.

It must be a mistake, i'm guessing it's worth watching if they fix it.

  • Did this support Bluray rip files and ISO files,?
