Bsprice $3500 real retail price $2k

  • why is this TV so cheap
what part of the spec that makes this TV not so great?
Can anyone shed some info, thanks!

DOesn't have true HDR and the refresh rata is only 50.

      • It will be 60Hz, like every TV currently for sale. Marketing uses 50Hz for TV's in Australia based on our historically PAL 50 fields based broadcast TV system vs the USA having 60.

Any higher quoted Hz is referring to the TV's picture processing, that generates in between frames that do not exist in the source. I can't watch it, others like it. With a movie for instance, the director has designed the source, with certain shutter rates to achieve a certain amount of motion blur etc, which the TV's processing fights to eliminate. No mater what you lose absolute image quality with it enabled. Google, "soap opera effect".

The interpolation effect will operate at different multiples of what you, or the source set the TV to. That is, while watching a 1080p25 source, the interpolation effect will run at 100Hz, or 200Hz. 1080p60 will use 120, or 240Hz interpolation. etc.

These bigger TV's are cheaper now because they are not OLED.

        • Higher refresh rate (hz) helps an LCD to reduce ghosting. LCDs aren't very good at changing pixel brightness quickly.

i thought the 7000 series was their low end tv, looks like this is a step lower.

Just buy a TLC from AMazon when they open

    • exactly what im doing. TGG , HN and JB can all get chomped.

    • I mean TCL

      • +23

        That's better ;) Don't go chasing waterfalls.

    • Are TCLs as good as Hisenses?

      • I dunno. Ellen Degeneres gives them away.

US model numbers are different so hard to tell.

Dont think its this TV? If it was then pretty good deal as rated ok.

    • Barely HDR. Damn.

    • 60hz 70 inch that can also be 60 inch sounds about right.

The thing I kinda like and dislike about that website is that the rating is also affected by the price point.
So, televisions like these get decent ratings when they don't really deserve it.

TV looks to be above average in that range. My biggest concern would be buying a TV in late 2017 that cant do proper HDR.

  • +2

    Yikes 50hz on a 70" in 2017… really sony ??

    • +1

Yes. They have to cater for all markets by offering different spec at different price points.

      • +3

Clearly trying to compete with soniq and tcl… oh wait they're 100hz standard.

What are you such a sour grape?

        • +7

@D6C1: stating the facts sony needs to up their game in 2017 50hz on a 70 is disgusting. Not having a go at you..

        • +1

sony needs to up their game in 2017

          Fair enough

        • +1

          @solidussnake:

Not defending how awful this tv is, but this is just Sony's attempt to make an "affordable" tv.

Their X8500E, X9000E and X9300E were all pretty good releases and I'm going to judge them based on those and obviously their oled rather than this television.

        • @BarginGrabber:

          Agree.

It seems like Sony is targeting the larger screen Real Estate that watch only TV, Blurays for budget buyers.

I'd love to get their 49" X9000E however it is like a needle in a haystack … or suck it up and find one on eBay for a price of a 55"

… hmm it's best to wait I think.

          Cheers

Could someone please enlighten me I'm genuinely asking,

When watching a movie that is as 24FPS on a 100hz tv how does anything over 24 help unless your using frame interpol?

    • -2

Most people cant tell the difference between 50 or 100…

      • So when you blow up the picture to a 70inch its not that noticable :s Its like buying a dialup modem in 2017..

        • Solid i replied that most people cant tell the difference between refresh rates of 50 and 100. I never mentioned screen resolution, theres a difference, one is how often the pixels painted the other is their size or detail.

        • @ninetyNineCents: you're wrong regardless.
Most people will notice the difference, they just might not know WHAT they are noticing.

        • -1

          @theguyrules:

Highly doubt it, i have shown enough people footage shot at 60fps and 30fps from my drones on big tv and basically nobody can tell one is double the frame rate.

        • -1

          @theguyrules:

Did a google for "can people tell difference between 50 and 100 tv"…

It seems many people arent really sure. The main thing people say is higher refresh rate is better for sports… problem is thats not really true because if the source is slow, drawing every frame twice doesnt really make any difference in what one sees. If we also consider that most tv isnt fast movement, again what exactly are you seeing at a higher refresh rate.

btw: im excluding games which obvious can push higher refresh rates, so then there are actually more frames to see , thats if you can actually see them.

        • @ninetyNineCents: clearly you don’t know how frame rates or interpolation works.

Interpolation is not “drawing every frame twice” otherwise that would make no difference at all.

Interpolation is actually very noticeable, hence why people complain about the 'Soap opera effect'.

          @theguyrules:

TGR: Interpolation is not “drawing every frame twice” otherwise that would make no difference at all

99c: I know what interpolation is, and its crap because its fake.

If one image is of a car on the left of the screen, and the next image is of the car on the right, you cant really compute a picture with the car in the middle.

TGR: Interpolation is actually very noticeable, hence why people complain about the 'Soap opera effect'.

99: The human eye cant see more than 25 - 30 frames a second, Hollywood has built a whole industry and standard on that.

        • @ninetyNineCents: lol!
          Alright I’m out

    • Though they are marketing motionflow xr200 in the specs, so it has potential to reach 100hz ? I'm not 100% sure how it works

  • How does this compare to do KDX8500d?

    • +1

      100hz
      Higher hdr
      Better colours
      Android o.s

  • Shame there's a lot of shipping exclusions which includes my area. Would have jumped on it otherwise.

  • Making it to 100hz isn’t that hard just some software programming don’t know why Sony wouldn’t just make it 100hz hardly any extra cost.

  • To quote the ebay advert on Sony - KD60X6700E - 60" UHD Smart LED TV:

Do they actually want to sell these?

  • It's actually not a bad TV, particularly for the price. The body and the stand are cheap plastic, but the picture quality is pretty good. If someone just wants a big TV (and will use an extra device for smart features) then this isn't a bad option at all.

In regards to refresh rate, yes it's only 50Hz, but remember that (gaming aside) the vast majority of content is only filmed at 24 or 25 frames per second. So no, not all frame interpolation and motion processing looks bad, but for those who turn it off, there's significantly less difference between 50Hz and 100Hz.

If you like good black levels and fairly accurate colours go for Sony. If you're dead set on 100Hz and some rudimentary smart features, TCL or Soniq etc. will have you covered.

  • Looks like its direct lit so Im assuming it will be quite thick… anyone been able to find any side profile pictures of the TV online yet?

  • Which one is better, the one mentioned in the deal, Sony 70" or TCL 65"

    TCL should be $500~$600 cheaper.

  • You're definitely better off snagging a Hisense 75n7 for $400 more (when on sale)
