NetGear Orbi Wi-Fi System (RBK50) AC3000 $498 @ Harvey Norman Liverpool/Orange Grove NSW or $398 with AmEx

70

Was heading to HN to buy the Google Wifi and was told that they had the Netgear Orbi on sale from 598 to 498 as an in-store sale at Harvey Norman Liverpool/Orange Grove. I'm unsure if this price is available at other HN but I know it's definitely that price at Liverpool.

With the Amex deal it's another $100 off so comes to $398, on par with Google Wifi prices atm.

Also note, HN Liverpool will only allow you to use one amex per transaction so word of warning if you want to make big purchases.

Can get it on Ebay with the current PING20 deal for $440.00 delivered plus another $5.50 off with CR if you can't take advantage of the Amex deal.

    • Glowsticks won't be glowing tonight with that news :-)

      • OP used AMEX

      Ouch.

Still - there's something to be said for buying a physical product personally in-store and having it in your hands as you're buying it and walking out of the store with it.

I don't know, that doesn't fit in with the OzBargain credo. Hoping the OP got the Amex deal which I'm thinking he did. Mine was for anyone else thinking about it.

I did, I just thought I would throw it out there for anyone considering Google Wifi

      • there's something to be said for buying a physical product personally in-store and having it in your hands as you're buying it and walking out of the store with it.

Yes it's inconvenient and usually involves dealing with lying sale people.

  • I’ve recently installed this same model and can’t compliment this enough. Much better than all the AC3200 + extenders I had over time.

Read a lot of comparison between this and the Google wifi and this wins hands down. Only cons are the size and price.

    • Netgear also has little incentive to collect every single piece of data it can about you and people on your network because it's not in the business of loading unwanted advertising on your computers and creating circumstances where you lose money to unknown third parties with you having no idea that anything occurred.

I bought the Google Wifi (3pack) yesterday for $388 from HN, (+plus got a $20 itune card => get $100 from Amex offer), so it is roughly about $290. So far I am very impressed with Google Wifi, so easy to setup, it allows me to use OpenDNS as DNS server as well (I have NBN-HFC with TPG, their supplied modem/router is almost completely locked down, can't edit DNS server etc). I never use Netgear Orbi before so I can't compare the two. I have a double story house, put two put stair and 1 down stair, get very strong signal.

    • Can you get a landline working on your Google wifi?

      • Yes. The landline I left it connected to the TPG supplied modem/rounder. I connect the primary google Wifi to a LAN port on the TPG’s modem/router , then I switch off its WiFi functionality. I have a network switch that connect all my desktop and NAS , I connect the switch to an Ethernet port of the primary Google WiFi as welll. So all my home internet run through Google WiFi.

  • Is this the 2 unit set? Google wifi deal is 3 units which may be required for some?

    • +1

The two is enough for a large house.

The 3 units of GWifi only have 2 ethernet ports each, and one of them is where the modem goes in.

  • It's a good deal but the key is to spend only $400
