Hi All,

I had something similar more than 10 years ago, with the whole cleaning dock and all. It requires you to buy their special cleaning/lubrication fluid, which it says should be replaced every 30 days. It would cost bucketloads to actually do this.
I ended up just cleaning it with water, but it was a royal pain to do so, constantly taking the whole thing apart and cleaning the parts one-by-one. Stuff still accumulates, so it is not overly hygienic either.
When using this, you still have to use some kind of foam or soap to avoid skin irritation, which means you may as well shave with a normal blade. I switched back to normal razor blades in combination with shaving oil (e.g. somersets or King of Shaves), and it turns out cheaper, faster and with less skin irritation.
Yea it does cost a bit to maintain this from the reviews i've read, also apparently the blades go blunt after 3-4 months (also depends how much hair you have and how thick it gets).
Still, for the price, you can't go wrong… (or can you? lol)
Yeah, and if you accidentally knock a blade it becomes hard to use as well. Replacement blades were in the order of $70 or so (10 years ago).
The commercials look great, implying that as long as you shave with lots of water, it is smooth and cooling. But that's just not true.
"Yeah, and if you accidentally knock a blade"
… don't know how you can do? Maybe on that 10 year old. I had it for probably 5 years and it never got damaged in any way.
A lot will depend on your hair whether it will do the job or not. I never use water with this one even though it can do both and it gives me good results. Some people swear by foil shavers and some by rotary. If you can, go to Good Guys, try it out and see which one suits you.
Do you guys know if this Braun s9711 is any better than the 9030? What's the main differences? Im trying to find reviews but there aren't many…
@bargainparker: I damaged one while cleaning it with the brush.
How did you succeed that? I have done it countless times. Granted it is not made of titanium, but being careful and never had problems. Still on original shaver head as from comments about the new 'updated' head decided not to buy it and you can't buy the original head unless you pay almost as much as for a new complete shaver.
@bargainparker: I was being clumsy.
What you said above is true - it really depends on each person what is suitable. If you have a heavy beard but a sensitive skin, it gets very hard to find something that suits you. Rotary is not great for sensitive skin, I have found.
@alwaysflyingau: This is a Philips, that'd be where you're going wrong with finding reviews. There are plenty comparing Philips 9000 Series and Braun Series 9.
Difference is rotary vs foil. You can add the Panasonic Arc 5 to the list too and you have the best shavers on the market, which suits you best is variable.
I have a previous generation with all included. Yeah it cost if you use their liquid but I never did apart from 1 I got for free. it smells nice and that's about it. Nothing that good ol' hot tap water can't do. Didn't have to take anything apart. just lift covers and rinse under water, dead easy.
Sorry typo! my bad :)
This comes to around EUR 149.17 after vatt is removed so aprox $231 AUD.
Shipping is $20-30 aud from memory too.
