Panasonic Lens Demo Units 14-42mm F3.5-5.6 $150 @ Harvey Norman

80

Sure, it's a kit lens but if you know how to expose ur shots properly you'll find this lens very good.
Great for a GH4/5 G7 and many other Panasonic MFT cameras.
I even managed to get a demo unit for $150.

  • What is the Mount type?

    • Nvm Micro Four Thirds mount

  • Great lens which is clearly superior to the "usual" kit lens. Highly recommended!

2 dollar saved is 2 dollar saved.

      • Thanks for the negative vote. Humor is not your strength.

$200 for a kit lens? Ouch.

    • As much as I hate the term "kit lens" implying an inferior quality, simply because of the word, this lens is way more than just a kit lens.

      • How is this "way more" than a kit lens? Whats so special about this lens?

        • Do you have the lens? Do you have the MFT system? Are you using it? I assume not.

Mate, get some information and data first, BEFORE you post unnecessary statements, no offense.

        • -2

@PictureMeBroken: Excuse me? You're the one making unnecessary statements claiming this kit lens is more than a kit lens (whatever that even means). The burden of proof is on you to provide evidence to back up your claim, not me.

          Gosh, gotta love those trolls.

I am using more Panasonic lenses (on a daily basis) than you ever had in your hand mate, and this review sums it up quite well. Especially the attached data.

        • -3

@PictureMeBroken: The only troll here is you. Both those review you link say its a very good kit lens. It doesnt claim anything extraordinary about this standard lens. Many other manufacturers also have similar better than average kit lenses. Plus this is the normal price. And most people get these in a kit. Who buys it seperately? If this were $50 it would be a deal, but a saving of $2 on an slightly better than average kit lens is not a bargain and doesnt belong on this site. Troll elsewhere mate.

        • +1

@Orpheus: In what world are you living to assume 50$ would be possible for this lens?

Sharper, lighter, smaller and better build is not significantly better? When did I say it is extraordinary?

To summarize: You don´t own it. You have never used it. You are not using the MFT system. Your first statement implies that this lens is not worth 200AUD. The attached reviews simply tell you something else and you still don´t want to admit it.

And we are not talking about "other brands" here. It is simply not true that this lens is not worth 200AUD and everyone using it (or the Panasonic MFT system) will agree completely, as you can see in those reviews.

Have you ever tried the original kit lens? Have you ever tried it for creating a video? Now have you tried this version II for videos? I assume not. Have you seen the quality of the original kit lens?

Who should buy it? I tell you who: Everyone having a Panasonic MFT camera from the first five generations up to G6. They will get a sharper, lighter, smaller, higher quality "Every Day" lens which is now fully capable of creating smooth zoom-in and out videos. Mate, just admit it that your statement was sloppy.

I could also start explaining it to you why there are countless Blackmagic users using this particular lens (and lens-type) for creating their cinema-like videos. I could also start explaining why this keeps the price (even for the original kit lens) quite stable on online warehouses including Ebay, but hey why should I waste my time even more?

          @PictureMeBroken:

In what world are you living to assume 50$ would be possible for this lens?

In a world where bargain websites exist where bargains are posted.

        • -1

@PictureMeBroken: It is a given that when manufacturers make a new kit lens that it is improved compared to the old one. This lens is sharper than the previous kit lens, thats a given. Its definitely nothing out of the ordinary. And this price really isnt anything special at all. Troll elsewhere.

        • @Orpheus: Why is it trolling if I create a simple statement which is true and supported by numerous well recognized professional sources?

        • -1

@PictureMeBroken: Because its not a bargain?

        • +1

@Orpheus: Mate this whole discussion was about your wrong statement which will inform potential buyers in a wrong, unnecessarily negative and unjustified way and NOT if it is an official bargain or not.

        • @PictureMeBroken: Is this even version II? I don't see any reference to version II, and the model number just returns the versionless results.

        • @PictureMeBroken: Its your statement saying this is way more than just a kit lens that is misleading to potential buyers.

        • +1

@Orpheus: He still does not admit it. Well, all the best for your life mate with this attitude. I am out.

        • @PictureMeBroken: Admit what? That this is a normal sharper version 2 kit lens, just like the reviews you linked state and is still a kit lens? This is a poor recommendation and misleading. A better "kit lens upgrade" would be the Panasonic 12-32. Collapsible tiny size makes it significantly smaller than this. It also starts at 24mm equiv instead of the standard 28mm like this. Plus it still manages to pack in image stabilization. Now thats a real "not your usual kit lens" lens.

        • +1

@Orpheus: How is a different zoom range comparable? Yes, it is not.

Each time you use the lens you have to "activate" it unless you keep it open which is not desirable because of its structure, how is that an improvement?

Mate the one you posted costs nearly 500AUD by itself, and don´t come to be with grey imports (or ebay items from Korea or Japan). Now ironically that is an overpriced kit-lens.

The lens which this thread is about does have an optical stabilization included, mate you are bringing yourself more and more in the wrong zone. Just let it be, trust me it´s better. Have you even read any of my posts or are you just trying to save your argument?

Show me how you can use the 12-32mm for a Black Magic camera with a smooth zoom? Oh forgotten you can not.

Have you ever used any of those lenses? I bet you have not. Well I do.

        • -1

@PictureMeBroken: Were talking about kit lenses that are out of the ordinary. The 12-32 is wider than the traditional limited 28mm equiv and is pancake thin. Thats out of the ordinary. This is an improved ordinary kit lens for $200. Nothing special. Not even a bargain. Its incredibly misleading to make other people think otherwise. I really hope the 8 people that voted positive did not buy this thinking it was an actual deal of any kind. And recommending this lens as a bargain for m43 video makers is laughable. Troll elsewhere with your joke advice.

  • +1

Based on the picture it is version II.

  • +1

What is special about this bargain, isn't it usually about this price?

    • -1

Agreed. You can actually get this cheaper from JB HiFi for $190 with gift cards.

"it's a kit lens but if you know how to expose ur shots properly you'll find this lens very good"

this comment can apply to many kit lens.

"if you know how to xxx properly you'll find xxx very good"

this comment can apply to everything.

    • +1

IMHO Videography/ photography is all about knowing the many ways of how to control your exposure.

I've come across many ppl, mostly hobbyists that own for example something like a 5dm3 and several primes/ L series lenses and rarely use their gear so don't know to use it.

What little they are capable of is only achieved by using very expensive fast lenses when they could've achieved the same result or better if they had a better understanding of the above.

      • -1

^ What has any of that got to do with a normal priced $200 kit lens being a bargain?

  • I really don't know who will be buying this one, unless your original kit lens broke or lost.

I find it not really worth paying another $200 for nearly identical item. Might as well get a prime lens like the dirt cheap 25mm f1.7 or little bit more 45mm f1.7 or Olympus equiv.

    • +1

what are you going to do about the 14-25mm range then?

      • Take a few steps back or use the kit lens you already have.

        • +1

And by that time you've changed lenses you've missed your shot.
Depending where you're shooting you can't always step back enough as needed.
