    7% cashback from cashrewards too.

    • Thanks for that mention, I just bought one bro.

Thanks for reminder. Whenever the price is too attractive, always forget cash reward.

any one know diff between this and Brother SL100?

    • +2

It seems the SL100 is slightly newer and has some additional sewing guide included. I think functionally they are the same otherwise.
Might as well go with the SL100 as it has a higher RRP and is the same price after the discounts. That was my logic anyway.

    • +1

They are exactly the same except that SL100 also comes with a pattern. https://www.brother.com.au/sewing-machines/sl100-detail

    • I'd like to know too…

There doesn't seem to be much of a difference between the two.

  • +2

The Is one more at same price by Elna. Not sure which one is better

My mum bought me this exact model as a housewarming gift about 8 months ago.

I've never owned or used a sewing machine before but I found it easy to use and I've fixed up a heap of stuff with it. I'd totally pay $89 if I was in the market for one.

  • It has manual thread loading :-( not much helpful for my mum

  • Thanks, I ordered one of the Brother LS100 for the same price. Features seemed the same but slightly newer? Either way. Was looking for a cheap sewing machine a little while ago and never decided on one, at this price I can't say no :D

  • Thanks! Ordere one Brother LS100. Never use any sewing machine before but always want one. At this price for delivery, I cannot say no.

Nice deal. Bought one for the missus for Valentines day next year. She wasn’t too pleased with the ironing board last time so this oughta blow her socks off.

  • +1

The description of the JS1700 includes this: "The free arm sewing surface is easily convertible from traditional flatbed to free arm for sewing cuffs and sleeves."

I can't find that for the LS100. I have no idea what it means and whether that is a difference that matters. Any ideas?

    • +1

      I'd like to know too

    • Here is the link to the LS100. And yes, I'd like to know too.

      • Yes, I saw that. There's very little information on the Spotlight website. A bit more at Brother: https://www.brother.com.au/sewing-machines/sl100-detail

Still doesn't answer the question about 'convertible', whether the SL100 is convertible or whether I should care about that at all.

        • Comparing both images, they look the same, except the big brother sticker. One is pale blue, the other one is red. I like red colour better, so therefore, buying SL100 instead of the JS1700.

        • @flickr: I think the included 'Simplicity Pattern' is one benefit of the SL100. I would have preferred blue, but the pattern…

        • @team teri: For anyone wondering what the Simplicity Pattern is, this is it: http://www.simplicity.com/simplicity-pattern-2147-learn-to-s…

Confirmed with Brother over the phone both machines are identical in terms of features, functions and accessories. Only difference is LS100 has a pattern included (which is a piece of paper), and that the LS100 is a slightly newer released machine

        MVP!

  • Does anyone know if this is double interlock ?

As I mentioned in Monty's original post, I received my $40 off voucher from Spotlight yesterday.

It definitely says that Home electrical appliances, Sewing machines and overclockers are excluded from the $40 off deal.

However, I just went through the checkout process on line, and the $89.00 price definitely worked!

I then cancelled it as I bought an Elna EL2000 for $69.00 in the last deal a few months ago.

Obviously the mailed voucher deals (for in store shopping) and the online deals are completely different.

    • I can confirm, the code works. I just ordered one for $89.Forgot to go through cashrewards…lost 7% cashback. :-(

    • Hi is the Elna 2000 an overlocker ?

      • No - just a basic machine like the Brother.

The opinion around the place seems to be that Elna's are slightly better quality.

However, they're all built in Asia, and for the basic stuff that I use it for I don't think I'd notice the difference!

It's strong enough to use on canvas and denim if I'm careful, and I won't need any more than that.

  • Thanks, ended up getting the PFAFF 160 Smart Sewing Machine Pink for $139. Seems to be great value considering regular price is apparently $499 (had a look around and seems to retail around 300-350 plus shipping).
    Xmas sorted ;-)

I ordered same one by your comment. Thanks.

      • +1

Ooooh .. will check it out.

    • I was considering this option seriously until I read below from the review you shared:

The cover and the machine itself seem to be made with an inferior grade of plastic – the hard kind of plastic that cracks very easily.

I'll take a pass on this.

      • Yes I read that too, but you have to keep in mind what (price range) they are comparing this to.
Lot of the other machines reviewed on that site are WAY more expensive. And if you look at that and consider they gave it a 4.5 out of 5 -good enough for me…

  • Cool, missed the last one. Cheers

  • Can this be used to sew jeans / denims?

  • does anyone know where they ship the products from? do they ship from a warehouse or from nearby/same state stores?
because I did bought a sewing machine online, and I'm afraid that I won't receive it in time before I leave for overseas in 10 days.

    • I ordered at 3:17 pm today, received Australian eparcel with Tracking number at 4:51. In the email said "the delivery should arrive 7 business days, regional areas may take longer".

Hope it helps you to decide.

      • thanks! i think I need to call them tomorrow ><

  • Thanks OP. Just ordered one.

  • how do I get the vip price of $129?
after I login, the price is still full price $269.

    Can anyone help?

    cheers.

  • Yes me too… can only see $269 after VIP login. :(

  • I have been charged 8.99 for delivery

    • free delivery for over $100 seems have been ended.

  • Only seems to be the JV1400 not the JS1700 for that price??
    https://www.spotlightstores.com/search?text=JS1700&x=0&y=0

    • +2

Look like the JS1700 is no longer available at VIP $129. JV1400 has less feature (14 built-in stitches instead of 17). Suggest you guys to go for the SL100 which is still available at $129.

  • Sorry guys, looks like this one has ended. Hopefully there will be another sewing machine on special before the $40 off $100 code expires!

  • Thanks, got one. Will gift it to my parents so they can make my kid cool costumes. Two birds….one stone….

  • Delivered today. But found the box is not in original sealed status. It was opened before and resealed.

    • I'd call them and ask for another one.
