    Scam shop alert!

    • Please inform me. I'm ignorant about this.

      • +1

tommyc's comemnt link gives a really thorough explanation of all scams including the one I just pointed out.

Basically I would be wary of these extremely cheap tours. The only revenue source for them is to lure you to some lucrative scam shops, trick you into buying overpriced items which they then get commissions from.

        • Thanks. Sounds like a lot to worry about. Best to travel with a partner.

        • @skazclaw:
Nope - nothing to worry about. They don't tie you up and torture you until you buy something.

Just say no thanks … bu xia.

  • +3

lol. get your own $300 flights and book your own private driver via your hotel if you must. then you wont be forced to go to their mate's factory on a crappy bus and pushed to buy crap. also, hangzhou and shanghai are really not worth visiting. suzhou's gardens are nice when the flowers are in bloom.
do your own tour and visit xi'an, beijing and perhaps somewhere south.

    • If you know the meaning of 上有天堂,下有蘇杭, then you will not say so.

      • -1

hangzhou is a crappy little town that offers very little value to travellers that have been to ANY OTHER chinese town. if you've been there recently, then you will agree

        • +1

Hangzhou has a lake (no big deal even if it is famous) and a nice temple. That's about it. Suzhou is great. Shanghai is a big city with interesting history and architecture. Beijing is great.

          Enjoy the constant sales pitches.

      • I agree! Hangzhou, Suzhou ang Shanghai are my fav cities! I can't wait to go back n discover more!

      • Thank goodness for Google translate!

    • This!

  • i cant report twice, but surely this guy is sockpuppeting…

We loved Westlake and the Buddha Monastery. The rock engraving poem written by Emperor Kangxi, mirror lake. I was so happy to find out that Hangzhou was previously an Imperial City of the Song Dynasty.

We stayed a night in Tongli. So well preserved, felt like I stepped back in time 100s of years. We arrived at sunset when all the tours had left and left late morning just as the bus tours were arriving. This was the highlight of our trip.

If you do a tour it's a pretty awful experience coz you battle with the hoards of asian tours from SE Asia….we choose only 1 garden in Suzhou and then just walked the old town and explored the canals on foot. It's cleaner and nicer than Venice. Food in Zhejiang is amazing!

Shanghai, cafe hopping, people watching, Xintiandi.. great vibes!

I would never to a tour no matter how cheap it is. Stay in nice central hotels, sleep in, go at your own pace, create your own itinerary. Taxi is so cheap in china!

But would be helpful to be able to speak a little chinese. I can't speak much and I struggled a little but still managed!

    • Thanks for your tips and review….

I believe doing it your way, you can experience a much better China.

      Cheers

  • Does anyone noticed that first day & last day are only flight time!

    • That's not unusual.

  • +1

Check reviews for China tour companies and avoid if they don't exist. Some can be very aggressive with the scams. Eg bus "broken down" until enough purchased at each shop.

  • Does anyone know which tour company is actually delivering/fulfilling this on the ground in China — that would provide a lot of insight to the quality of this?

  • I've been tempted by these cheap tours to China so many times. Wendy Wu tours have been advertising for a few years. I've travelled around south east Asia, but for some reason have concerns about going to China. Some comments here have sparked my interest once more.
Thank you, commenters, for sparking my interest

If you've done SEA, China will feel familiar. It's getting much more tourist friendly. Shanghai is navigatable with English quite easily. Expect some minor culture shock. The bullet trains are bloody fantastic

      • Thanks to kun1. Good info
