Logging into my account? No thanks.

    • Thats optional. I understand your point though

Dont get me wrong, i agree the price is good, just the way to get it, i can't consider it a bargain as the risk you take is so high! Espicially if your steam account is banned!

  • This is a pretty cool work around, though seems more trouble than it's worth.

  • Positive for the clarification and being straightforward, still considering whether to get it or not since it does seem a bit risky.

  • I purchased it and got it activated. (just change your password and then change it back, or just create brand new steam account if you are chicken)

Applied English language from here http://hotfile.com/dl/81357816/990e0a4/codborussiantoenglish….

All works great, can play online on AUS servers :)

    • Where do you download the game?

  • You download it from steam, i let the game install overnight, installed the english.patch and tried multiplayer this morning, it works great!

    • Can you download the game while waiting for the product key, or do you need to have it before you can start downloading?

      • Pretty sure you can only download the game after you've purchased/activated it.

  • Too much trouble I reckon.

  • you need to activate it first, i guess anthony activates it and than you go and download the game through Steam.

Took 5 mins to setup new steam account, provide the info, anthony activates it, you go back to steam and install it & change password :)

Worth the $50 savings in my opinion!

Don't bother with this game, one of the worst COD releases ever.

    • +1

I'll second that - so many bugs and heaps of lag in the single player. I haven't even tried multi player yet. I'll stick with MOH until some much needed updates are available.

  • Can the rep confirm that activation works with a german or sweedish ip address?
If it can, it might make all of our lives a bit eaisier.

  • Wait till updates fix this crap of a game.

This method isn't quite legal. Those CD keys are for retail boxes for Russian market only. I don't know why Steam accepts them (probably just lazy to check since the Russian market is a small market anyway so why bother) but whoever sell those CD keys for online activation is most likely violates some agreement.

I don't believe that Steam will ban your account though. The worst that would happen Activision wont provide a special price for Russian market anymore but most likely they just ignore that.

So lets say you went to Russia, saw it cheaper and then bought this, came back to Australia to use. Don't think that's illegal. Plus I buy many games from ozgameshop which is completely legal to buy..it gets shipped from UK with the physical disks.

Fact is everyone wants a bargain and this is a way to get it, the steam incident is unfortunate.

BTW Russia has a huge market for gaming, CS anyone?

      • If you buy a retail disk than you can use it anywhere (there are some exceptions though). But rights to distribute retail and distribute online sometimes belong to different companies and those who distribute retail got a discount with a condition not to distribute game outside Russia and not to distribute it online. Additionally the company that distribute retail game with that discounted price has specifically mentioned in the license that they are not for resale.

In some cases there is no difference in the game itself, sometimes it completely different binary files, different support, different patches and so on.

BTW Russia has a huge market for gaming, CS anyone?

Retail gaming for PC is dead in Russia because of piracy. The whole reason they sell games with such a discount is because you can buy a pirated game on any corner and any computer shop for a 10-15 dollars. And it's an easy choice between 10-15 and 60-100 dollars even if pirated game sometimes doesn't work. But if a choice is between 10-15 and 20-30 dollars most people will buy a legal game just to avoid potential problems and get the support.

The online games on the other hand are growing really fast.

        • Steam is online! I think most people here use steam as well and a friend I have from Russia also uses Steam. In fact the place where he lives has a very similar price to the one above. He buys the retail key as well and so do most people from his uni, and although he is not well versed in Russian Law, he told me it is very legal and is common all around Russia.

Again as I have said, if it works on Steam, is cheaper than anywhere else and comes with the retail key, I'm pretty sure I will buy it. Let me ask you a question, if this guy sold the the actual retail disks for this much and told you it works on Steam then if you wanted the game, you probably wouldn't complain. Look at all the dvd box sets with chinese subs, they get sold by the hundreds and in fact they are original chinese retail copies.

    • activision makes the same amount of money whether you buy from russia or australia

its the retailers that lose out

      • I doubt that. After all 1C company is happy.

Besides the fact that significant exporting may cancel all future deals they sell more copies because of it and get more profit and stronger position to negotiate the next deal.

We have a license to resell all products from our suppliers.

Also Parallel importing is not illegal

      • We have a license to resell all products from our suppliers.

Then your supplier violates the agreement.

The company that distributes retail disks COD:BO in Russia is 1C. I haven't read the user agreement but I don't believe that they grant anyone the right to resell the game. After all it's a usual requirement from Activision or any other publisher when they sell you the rights to distribute the game on some territory.

        • Parallel importing is legal in Australia.

We contacted a lawyer before setting up our store
