  • I think I'll grab one for the back window.
    Thanks OP.

    • How are you getting power to it?

      • +3

        Flyerone may have power windows.

        Tee hee!

      • Rear aux socket or long cable

      • +2

Just run it off the brake light bulb in the rear windscreen.

      • Rear USB power, long USB cable, under the carpet and seats and up the C pillar then through the turret lining.

Either that or I'll just pull 12v from something close and dial the voltage down to 5v with something like a D-SUN power reg. They are as cheap as chips and work very well.

  • Any reviews on this model?

    • some said don't lasts but some do well over a year

      • +9

Mines been going for 2+ years strong, no issues so far

        • I just read through this thread did Everbuying end up replacing the dashcam for the blurry video?

        • +1

@adr8: Yeah everbuying sent me out a new one, that ones still going strong in dads car too!

        • @shapers: Samething happened to me with GB and a faulty A118C (muffled/scratchy audio) they sent a replacement without having to send the faulty one back.

I ended up finding a fix for it on youtube, just had to reposition the speaker away from the capacitor and now have both front and rear cams :)

      • I have battery model (Aliexpress seller send it instead of a capacitor). Battery lasts for 1 minute, other than that all cool.
1,5 years no issue except for battery (which is not the case for this model).
        Video quality is acceptable.

      • Have had 3.
        - card read issues in one "no card inserted" sorta thing
        - lost date and can't be set again in another

None of them have lasted 2 years without some issue. I've retired them in favour of A119s

      • Being using it for 3 yrs, the only issue was that I put a wrong sd card and it gives me problems.

        • Some SD Card didn't work properly, I googled it found that the most reliable one is Kingston Class 10 32GB.

The second one I used is Samsung it recorded OK but it won't delete old record when it was full, have to manually format the card. Will have to try Kingston SD Card later.

      • Yeah mine lasted maybe 6 months.. avoiding

    • Reviews are very good for this model. Possibly the best bang for the buck at this price range. Used to own one that I purchased from GB. Worked fine for several months but then went on an infinite loop — starts for a few seconds, then turns off — that it never managed to recover/resurrect from. A friend had similar issue too with his unit. YMMV.

    • They're generally well received as best bang for buck camera at this price range, but it is a case of you get what you pay for.

What's really important to me is that it captures license plates - this camera (and even the A119C/S) is pretty average at doing that if your car is moving, and almost unreadable at night. But if you're stationary at an intersection, it'll capture the plate infront just fine.

      • +1

what price point / model are we looking at for a decent license plate capture ?

        • I use a Lukas 7900 Ace (https://www.lukasdashcam.com/lukas-lk-7900-ara-dashcam) - $300 not inc. shipping, wiring kit.
This captures plates clearly - I've used it for 3 years, it's survived a car crash, so it's durable.

          $30 vs $300.

Blackvue's do a pretty good job too and they're around the same price point.

    • +2

Don't know if it's only me but the date always seems to reset.

      • Unfortunately one of their flaws but usually only happens if you don't use your car for a few days. Rare that this happened to any of the ones I bought or installed in cars that were daily drivers but yes it is a known issue unfortunately. Still records fine all the same but can be annoying without a proper date/time.

      • Is this hit and miss depending on the unit? Would hate to have to reset the date constantly.

      • same issue here. other than that its all good.

      • Same. And occasionally shuts down while driving, leading to corrupt files!

  • -2

    These old but cheap now

  • How can I get rid of the charging cable?
does getting it done internally void the warranty of the car?
    Got a 2014 Hyundai Elantra

    • +1

I fed a long USB cable through behind the roof liningdown the A pillar and under the dash and it just pokes around into a 3 slot charger plug. I hated having the cable hanging loose.

    • +3

You can get a thing called a 'fuse tap' that, usually wires into passenger footwell area and makes a short journey up to the window. Cleanest way to install it.

    • +2

A lot youtube video will show you how to hide the cable.

  • +1

Thanks, got a replacement for one i've had for a couple of years and it's starting to get some errors. Pretty happy with it for the price considering the fact it sits in the sun most of the time.

  • +5

Nice, just grabbed one for the second car.
Have had this model for 18 months now in my car and it's performed flawlessly.
Got me out of a fine when a cop claimed I did not stop at a stop sign. Would have been his word against mine otherwise.

    • +1

      Gold

    • +5

      The Castle came to mind.

      Steve rattle: Dad. Radar Cops!
Darryl: How much did that cost?

      Steve rattle: 70 28 bucks.
      Darryl: Just paid for itself.

    • how much was the court/legal fees?

  • one of mine used 2yrs+, now freeze at times, not sure SD card issue or not.
for the price, I got one as a spare. I paid $50+ last time.

    • I had one at same time at same price. Also I had same problem and after formatting sd card, problem disappeared.

      • Try Kingston class 10 32GB, google it you will find this one is the most stable one to use with this cam.

    • I also resolved issues by formatting the card..

  • +18

To anyone interested in more info, please refer to one of my old deals on this model: https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/238071 EVERYTHING you need to know about these cameras is in there and there are a few critical things you absolutely cannot ignore so be sure to read it! They have their issues but the dozens & dozens I bought and installed a couple of years ago are all still working fine… even those with heat-buckled cases from long-term sun exposure :)

    • Thanks mate, I still have my unit that I got on your recommendation from that thread! I just bought a couple more at this price.

Question, have you had any issues with sd cards? My unit has literally killed 2 SD cards, they just die, can't be formatted etc.

      • No problems here. You using the Samsung Evos?

        • The first card was an Evo, when it went I chucked in my other spare card, I think it was a Sansdisk off memory. It went about a week or so ago..

        • @bassmaniac69: Yeah, interesting. May be a dud camera. Whatever you do please be sure to get Samsung Evo cards for your new ones though OK plus maybe try the original camera with another too.

    • I just wrapped some clear sticky tape around it to make the case tight again

  • Thanks

  • How do these work? Do they automatically start recording as you drive or do you have to start them recording every time?

    • +1

Fully automatic. Have a read through the old deal via the link in my comment above…

      • Thanks. Ordered one and will see how it goes.

  • +1

3 pieces left. It was 88 when posted.

    • +1

      The power of Ozbargain.

  • Flash sale over :(

  • Dammit missed it :(

  • The promo skipped ahead and ended, the price is now $55 with 3 units left

    • Same here :( it said flash sale has ended. I think item count hasn't updated.

  • How long does it take to arrive? Everytime I'm about to trigger I'm just hesitate bcoz I've heard it might take months for Gearbest's items to arrive :(

    • +2

The usual 3-4 weeks but potentially up to 5 weeks at this time of year. All my Gearbest stuff has arrived closer to the 3 week mark but sometimes spills over to 4. Never missed a delivery either, all my orders have arrived and most of them are just cheap untracked items.

    • +2

I suggested this dashcam to a friend a few months ago. He bought from gearbest and it arrived in about 10 days. Often they are okay, but other times they are rubbish. It's a bit of a lottery.

      • Yeah we have to be well prepared once it is not good as expected. Yes, lottery :)

  • +1

thought too long about it and missed out. damn.

    • +1

      Check again dude.

      • thanks.

    • Rookie error, buy 1st think later.

      • nah. this only applies if i 100% need it.

        • I hope you never need it. Accidents suck.

        • +1

          @WatchNerd:
          this is a spare.

  • Anyone know what the next cheapest price for this dash cam would be?

  • +3

Yo, it's listed as $28.85 again.

    • Thanks for the heads up. Grabbed one.

  • Definitely won't last if you leave your car under the sun.
The housing on mine completely warped over the course of the year.

It was working with the warped housing until I tried to take it apart and the usb socket came off and too small to be soldered back on.

    • +2

Mines been in the QLD sun daily for the last two summers and no issues at all.

      • +2

Yeah, I'm in northern Victoria and the car is parked on the street and not a problem here in 18 months.

    • My case didn't warp, but after a few days in the sun, it was freezing with a white screen of death. Took it out of the car and it still works somewhat, but didn't bother to try it again after that.
Also randomly stopped and corrupted files when it was working.

  • Cheers ears got 2

  • Just got one for $29 aud after conversion rate.

  • Picked one up, been meaning to get a dash cam for a while. Also had a few dollars knocked off due to some points I had so came to $26.58 for me.

    • +1

Don't forget to grab a Samsung EVO 32Gb SD card for it! Other cards can work but the Samsungs seem to offer rock solid stability.

      • Edit: Question answered below

  • any suitable micro SD cards on GB i can order together?

  • Bought 2, plus express shipping, total just under AU$70, hope to receive next week.

  • Still seems to be working - click through and see

  • If anyone grabbed the 64gb Samsung Evo pro that was on special a little while back, they work great with these.

    • Will this read the full 64GB or does it only read 32?

      • +1

        Fills the whole card

  • Got one. As a spare.

  • I was just thinking yesterday, after getting home from a 5hr round trip that I really need to get on the dashcam brigade. Cheers tezza

  • Cheap, and decent for what you pay. But mine shuts down/reboots randomly and some files written are corrupt (I have reduced segment lengths to help with this). So reliability isn't that great, which is important for its purpose!

I have ordered a Xiaomi 70 Minutes Smart WiFi Car DVR from this deal, looks interesting!:
    https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/340653

    • li-po battery though

    • Technically that is not a XiaoMi product. It is developed by a company called 70Mai which Xiaomi invest in and endorse. Hence why the logo on the device is different to any other Xiaomi products. There are heaps of products manufactured by other company that leverage on XiaoMi's popularity to sell.

    • Ya, will have to wait and see how good it is. Decent sensor + wifi + voice commands + 64GB got me interested.

G1W-C supports only max 32GB card, which is roughly 5-6 hrs of recording, before it starts getting overwritten. I want to retrieve and view/save interesting clips from phone itself, before it is gone and don't have patience or time to take the card to a computer :)

  • Cheers OP!

God, that plug looks huge and ugly lol

    Anyone using any alternative plugs?

  • +2

Mine died after 8 months - a car (garaged) I didn't drive very often, mostly just weekends.

I contacted gearbest for their 1-year free repair warranty and had to send it back to China at my cost (~$18 without tracking, ~$25 with tracking).
Note that Gearbest will ask you to use tracking so that they can identify it when received. I took the risk with no tracking number.

Dealing with Gearbest support team wasn't very responsive. I had to message them twice to get their response.

From memory they offered me a few options: keep the item and get a 10% refund / donate to a charity, get 50% discount if buy a new one etc. They sent me a refurbished item (cheaper than buying a new one minus the shipping cost).

    • and is the refurbished one all good?

      • +1

Yep still going after 15+ months.

Still have the date reset issue tho.
Maybe I don't drive the car enough causing the capacitor discharges completely

  • Seems to be a limited number of pieces now, 84 right now
Buy now, and think about its use later, its the Ozbargain way.

  • need a new sd card. any deal atm?
