Anything Razer is generally over-rated as well.. (coming from a Razer user). They place pretty green LED's on their products and charge 40% more than similar products.
Does purchasing a headphone with digital surround sound achieve much? Is it going to be any better than free software alternatives like razer surround?
I've personally never used a 7.1 digital surround setup that has ever sounded better or offered a better experience than just 2 channel.
You have two ears, and can determine directional audio irl with just that, having just two speakers with proper audio channelling should be all that's required. In games especially I've always found 7.1 is actually harder to determine player positioning than just 2 channel.
I'll find out when I get it. Reviews are good though.

Generally speaking most the 7.1 headsets are higher end anyway, so sound good regardless. I just don't think the digital 7.1 is an improvement, and in some cases sounds worse as if you're in a bathroom.
I have a 7.1 headset but just turn the 7.1 mode off and think it sounds great.
