  • Re: SmartQ tablet

Ho hum, another one. It's basically the same as a long line of 7" chinese tablets - resistive screen, no 3G, 600Mhz processor, only noticeable issues are only 800x480px screen, 3D acceleration, no sensors, and only 128MB RAM.

See http://www.mobileread.com/forums/showthread.php?t=48934 for a review of one in the range and http://en.smartdevices.com.cn/Products/V7/200912/04-40.html for the original manufacturer page.

$199 is not a bad price for something that's a video viewer/eBook reader - but not that special a price for the breed.

Oh, and it weighs half a kilogram.

    • Hi Sane,

Millennius and SmartQ have teamed up for the Australian market.

First of all the link you have pasted for the device is a very old smartq 7 in mid 2009 which didnt even have android and the specs are different. The device has Android 2.1 and does support USB 3G card.
The device we have made is a new version and is not the same as the one you pointed out.

      Kind Regards

      • Err, the chinese site I pointed to DOES have Android listed (along with Ubuntu) and I don't count having to plug in a USB card as 3G support (not really practical is it, a dongle waving in the wind?)

All of this model stream seem to share the same basics; case, screen, etc., which makes the review useful for giving a flavour of what people might expect - physically and speedwise.

As these things go, this example from their range appears more complete, built in 3G, gravity sensor, 256Mb, 720Mhz processor, along with the 1080p video - although even this one has no GPS, no Bluetooth, no camera, and only a 800x600px resistive screen.

Personally I'm still waiting for a proper Android tablet, at a sensible price, before buying one. How hard can it be to take the >1Ghz processor and sensors from a mobile phone and pair it with a 1024x600px capacitance screen and front&rear camera sensors? With the extra volume I expect it to do MORE than my phone, not less.

        • Hi Sane,

Yes that website is android but the other website you stated is from early 2009 which is an old model not being made today.

As far as what you need, This is the cheapest Dual Booting OS in Australia with 8GB memory card as well.

          Kind Regards

  • +1

This is the best price you will find. I'm sure many of you will remember his previous post selling it at $299.

Just remember that while it supports 3G modems, it only supports certain chipsets.

  • probably supports Huawei E220 as read elsewher re. ePads. The T-Touch has usb but doesn't work at all though appears its supports Win7/vista but doesn't.

  • Looks like a rebranded SmartQ V7, or possible SmartQ 7 based on the fact there is no Windows CE. The T7 is a newer model and is also available with built in 3G.

There is a good unoffical website - I would recommend reading through it before considering a purchase: www.smartqmid.com

I purchased a SmartQ V7 back in January, Based on my experience it is quite a good device, but definitely not for everyone.

If you are just after a Android tablet, I probably wouldn't recommend this - It probably won't receive a Froyo upgrade.

When i initially purchased it I used Ubuntu mainly:
    Under ubuntu:
-Bluetooth DUN worked, but required a bit of tweaking.
-Could play back media from computer using VLC and SSHFS (was fairly usable within about 5 metres from AP)
-Comic book viewer worked fairly well- main irritation was bit difficult to zoom.
-Works with USB keyboard and mouse (essential if tweaking.. on screen keyboard is not the best)
-When i used it (~ 6 months ago)Browser is a bit limited (Midori was included)

Now I use the tablet with android exclusively. A few based on usage of the SmartQ V7 notes:
-Device has limited storage memory- I wasn't able to install angry birds onto it due to space limitation
-No multi touch (just a resistive screen)
-No accelerometer - no auto rotation, games like labyrinth, hyper jump don't work
-Ok for some causal gaming - My favourite game on the device is Air Control
-Web browser works well (double tap)
-You can use another keyboard/input method (eg: I used swype beta)
-A small limitation - Adobe acrobat has no jump to page so I use Repligo Reader.
-Limited ram may cause problems with comic viewers on android side.
-The Smartq V7 has a audio delay problem
-Not sure if its different with the Millenius, but stock V7 has the market app, but you are not able to download
-Video out over HDMI seems to work fairly well, but I haven't tested it extensively.

    • Hi Ihfree, We are the only ones that sell this device in Australia.

We have teamed up with SmartQ, We can tell you that this device is alot faster then what you had in January. We have android market and can download apps too.

Please ignore all those sites as they are not relevant to our device,

      Kind Regards
      The Millennius Team

      • So what is the difference between this and the SmartQ V7?

The specs look the same look at the smart devices website and your website.

Do you have any screenshots of the screen where you choose between android/linux?

  • Regarding the Apanda phone, it has 12 month back to base warranty, right?

    • Yes we have 12 months warranty with all of our products.

  • Can you post more complete spec such as the type of touch screen (Resistive or Capacitive)?
Also, if you claim that the device that you sell is different from the posted device, manufacturer link, etc, can you post and point out what is the difference and why your stock is superior compared to the devices on the review, beside having Android OS?

    Thank you.

  • Hey guys you can have a look at a review that was just made and I know you guys wanted to see a review.
