what the hell does this actually do, what do you connect it to?

    • +19

      Xiaomi.

    • -2

Click on Go To Deal…. all shall be answered.

    • -8

Connect you to B28 band? Oh, wait nvm Xiaomi's don't have B28.

    • +5

Its a motion sensor for a Xiaomi gateway.

It actually works well, I've got one in our driveway so I know when someone's coming. It actually has few false alarms (ie rubbish/leaves/insects don't trigger it. Cats, kids, possums do.)

I just need a xiaomi sprinkler to deal with the forementioned intruders.

      • +2

xiaomi makes sprinklers?? where have i been!?

        • I have been looking for it as well. It seems like they did not have a road map for garden. :(

        • @huricool: they still now after reading this. the imitation factories are already copying pope and nylex as we speak

      • I've got one in our driveway so I know when someone's coming.

        How does it notify you?

        • +39

It triggers an electric shock and you can hear them scream.

        • @loftizle:

          Smart.

        • +23

          @loftizle:
There are loads of awesome booby trap add-ons for this. You should try the mini crossbow one. Make sure you set it up with your lux meter though, so it only fires after dark - I accidentally shot the postie. Felt really bad until I realised he was leaving a "sorry we missed you" notice without even bothering to knock first.

        • +1

          @thebargainhunter: "Sorry I hit you … with a Xia-ouch-mi crossbow"

        • @bdl: Wow…If the sensor is only costing $9, the base doesn't worth $5 LOL

        • @kungbernard: I agree, but it may be useful for some

        • @thebargainhunter: I love this.

      • +2

I find the Xiaomi Machine Gun Turret V2.0 works better than a sprinkler.

Makes sure to point it in the air when you install it though or else there may be 'consequences'

      • i think because kids are human too

      • +2

Xiaomi look like they are building Cyberdyne. They make everything, and they're all connected. Once they get the whole world onto their products they can hit 'go' and own your house.

      • Yep $5 it is just a PIR that will give false alarms outside especially when windy causing temperature change. For my Hikvision security camera, I wired a dual PIR and microwave sensor to the digital input, this is great as never has a false alarm and only get security camera photos emailed when someone is on the drive.

        • +1

Meh i got one, you don't. No temp triggers

  • +7

Price and store in title please.

  • Would it be compatible with Xiaomi MiJIA IR Sensor and Photosensitive Night Light (the one with 3 AA Batteries)?

    • +1

No, that night light is stand alone only, it doesn't have any way to connect to another device.

    • That light already has a sensor, what do you need it for?

      • +1

was thinking of putting it in the bedroom so that when I wake up, the MiJIA in the hallway turns on before I leave the bedroom.

        • +1

I see, I use Yeelight and this body sensor and works well in the hallway.

        • @jominix: Oh that's a great idea, do you need the gateway to pair them?

        • +2

          @crazynic:

Yes, you need the gateway as this sensor is a Zigbee device, it will integrate with Yeelight through the gateway.

        • @jominix: cool thanks a lot for your help!

        • +3

          @crazynic:
The gateway itself is a small light too, so if you put it in the hallway you will not need the yeelight.

  • +3

Smart human body sensor… sounds mighty fancy for a PIR

    • -2

Indeed it is more fancy than a "dumb" PIR that can trigger only a specific action like turning on a light or alarm though you need the gateway to receive the trigger and program actions.

  • +9

Bought 5 Xiaomi products in 5 days.. This is getting out of hand. I think i need to abstain from OzB for a few days

    • +6

Wait until next Fri when 11-11 hits.

    • +4

      It's so cheap though.

And you don't really get the full benefit of smart home stuff until you have it all over the place.

    • Is Xiaomi the new Eneloop?

I put it to a jury of my own peers

  • +5

So it will scan my body and report it back to China?

    • +1

what make you think they dont already have it?

    • +4

They're selling counterfeit versions of you in a market somewhere already, it's just not cheap enough to have made it onto ozbargain yet

      • +1

        Shipping kills it

      • No joking. They won't do that. They'll take the real one and leaving the fake one living here monitoring OZB.

    • +1

Apple already got ur fingerprints years ago and reported them back to US.
Now they announce the iP X for collecting ur face…

  • +18

I have a few of these. They work perfectly fine with Home Assistant (through the Xiaomi Gateway), but they just have double-sided tape underneath. If you're sticking them on the ceiling you will probably want them angled down, so you'll need to either angle cut a piece of dowel or 3D print something.

I'd pay the $2 extra to buy the newer version at $11.77 because they come with a mounting fixture you can angle.

    https://www.gearbest.com/alarm-systems/pp_659226.html

The new version also has a light sensor.

    • +7

      This…

Can someone get a bargain deal on this one? I swear it will be the last Xiaomi purchase I make for the next 7 days.

      • +2

Just adding this, because there are reasons to not need/use the mounting.

For outdoors, if you have the bog-standard Bunnings style aluminium pool fencing, these older motion sensors fit perfectly underneath the top rail and seem to be shielded enough from the rain to not get damaged. Perfect height for the sensors and quite discreet. You also don't need the light sensor because it's outdoors.

A small wedge of 25mm dowel painted white takes up less room than the included fixture, it stick down less and will be less noticeable on the ceiling. I 3D printed mine with a screw-hole for attaching to the ceiling and a pressure fit mounting for the sensor so they'd be easy to get down to change batteries. Good simple project for learning Fusion 360.

      • Just message the rep on here, they’ll get you a code and you can post your own deal

      • This…

        That…

Can someone get a bargain deal on this one?

        I don't know, can you?

    • Please a deal on this version too :)

    • +1

Apparently this one does not have a light sensor - see questions and answers on your link: "Q: Is this the new Aqara motion sensor that includes a luminance sensor as well? A: Hello Jonatan, We are sorry it doesn't has." (ignore the Chinglish :) ) … a bit confusing because the description says it does?!

oh, and for those that want the LUX (light detecting) capability, it seems they only detect lux on motion trigger

      • i own the one linked, it does have a light sensor or light detection or whatever you want to call it. and you are correct it seems to only update on motion events, even then it seems highly inaccurate

    • Bought the Aqara one

    • I use Home Assistant too. Shame they don't have a developer mode like the Yeelight so you can negate the gateway.
Though the way Xiaomi are pumping out useful IoT devices, I will need to get the gateway eventually.

  • +1

You have to do 2 orders to get 2 at that price.

    But worth it!

  • +1

Thanks for the deal mate. I'm sure many will be able to use it.
As stated above by KentT, I personally prefer the other one which comes with the mounting and light sensor for just a small difference in price. They were 12 bucks without a coupon the other day.

Thanks though. Very nice price on these and they work just as well from what I have read.

    • Does the light sensor mean that it can be armed to trigger only depending on whether it is dark or light or both? In most cases detection would signal a device that can be programmed to check a clock to take action depending on time of day.

NVM answering my own question: according to product description and https://www.ozbargain.com.au/comment/5241193/redir the sensor in the other one can convey light intensity to the gateway though version 2 is required as that does not work with the version gateway.

  • +1

This is also good for turning On/Off the Yeelight automatically, but you need the gateway to make it work.

  • +1 for being a Port supporter!

  • +2

I don't know WTF this thing does but I bought one anyway cos it's a Xiaomi

Also it's from GearBest aswell, so by the time it arrives I would have forgotten that I bought this thing so it feels like a free present for myself <3

    • you need a gateway to use it

      • WHAT?

        • +6

Don't worry, you already bought one (or more) of those last time the xiaomi deal came through. You didn't know what you were buying that time either.

        • You just forgot that you bought the home security kit which includes everything a couple of days ago.

    • I wonder how you guys manage to make it work. I bought a Xiaomi Security Camera and it came with someone inside speaking only Mandarin, and a manual with only Mandarin characters on it. You guys are all language genius or what?

      • Welcome to you Xiaomi.

I’ve given up on my xiaomi cameras and the xiaomi home app. Too many crashes, errors and periods where updates break all funcationality. At least I didn’t pay much.

      • +1

Do all of the Xiaomi security cameras come with someone inside? I may need to get one.

        • I'm free for the next 4-6 weeks while you wait for the cameras to arrive..

  • +1

Now just waiting for a sale on the gateway

    • Been there done that… you're a little late!

    • still on sale!

  • the Aqara version is better because it come with a swivel stand attached.

    https://www.gearbest.com/alarm-systems/pp_659226.html

  • They are just getting on our networks and planning world domination once established on everyone's wifi networks.

    • For all sorts of reasons, setting your router to block the gateway from the Internet is not a terrible idea.

World domination concerns is perhaps not at the top of the list.

      • It's on top of China's list.

  • What can this actually trigger, other than a push notification or a yeelight?
The gateway has a speaker, can it make an alarm on the gateway?

    • +1

You can set it up as a trigger for other xiaomi “smart” things on you network. All functions of gateway are included: light, alarm, radio, ringtone.

    • Yes, you can create a "Scene" in Mi home App to trigger the alarm if it detects anything. You can trigger any Xiaomi device in your Mi Home App.

    • Also can trigger the xiofang camera to snap a pic &send it

  • +12

I had to return mine because it couldn’t detect any smart humans at where I live.

    • +2

is it because the smart human where you live move very very slowly ??

    • Is the keyword 'SMART'?

    • +1

seem to be pretty accurate then, will order more. ;)

    • +1

Almost positive this is zigbee too.

      • It is :)

        • REALLY? hmmm is it the fact that it requires the gateway to function that makes it likely to have zigbee?

        • yes all(most) the battery operated switches/sensors communicate with the gateway via zigbee

        • @bleemo: the fact that I have one and it uses Zigbee makes it likely to have Zigbee :)

        • @bdl: lol fair enough! I guess the only major difference remaining is that the Aqara version has luminosity sensing?

        • @bleemo: Yes, plus built in stand, and you don't need a paperclip to access the "reset" button.

      • +1

        The only difference is
The Aqara one has a easy button to reset for pairing
While the original xiaomi one needs to use a pin to pair

        • +1

plus the Aqara has the swivel stand
