    Thanks.

These would have been great for Halloween trick or treaters.

    • +5

Yes, a great trick. Except for those 9yo ethical vegans.

  • +7

    Still good
    There's an election due

    • I can confirm the reason for these prices is because this stores new, maybe 9 weeks now.
They had a Hyundai Accent giveaway, and now its vegetable bonanza.

Basically trying to get a word of mouth thing going around, as most Aussies are finding the 100m distance from the Woolworths too much… so hopefully the store gets successful with less shoppers going to Woolworths and more to the Aldi and Fruit Shop. Alternatively there's a bottle-O that's located 30m from this spot… so Alcoholics unite indeed

    Poor farmers.thats crazy

    • +5

Or an over order and the market is taking the loss?

      • Yeah but even if the market takes the loss sales like this, its possible it can cause local farmers to have a surplus right afterwards and some might be forced to discount or throw away excess produce for the next few harvests.

        • +10

The farmers are already throwing away a lot of good stuff simply because they are the wrong colour, unshapely, etc. as dictated by big buyers and the consumers. It's a criminal waste of good food.

        • +3

This is probably a result of the storm a few weeks ago.
I remember someone saying that massive crops of tomatoes were lost. This is probably the 'not suitable for market' stuff.

        • +1

          @greenpossum:

87% of tomatoes are discarded on one Queensland commercial farm, for example: https://www.theguardian.com/environment/2017/oct/13/you-say-…

As someone that's worked on a lot of farms in Australia and abroad, I never feel sorry for farm-owners still making a profit. Some are the biggest exploiters of government regulations and human capital but the scummy ones still get to enjoy a history of positive PR as "custodians of the land". The most common occupational injury for farm owners is RSI from counting money.

I have a lot of farm-owning friends (mostly in Europe) so I know they're not all bad people or splendidly wealthy. But they sure get a lot of subsidies in the EU.

        • Huh? Are you seriously saying that farmers will notice a one-time offer like this and immediately and permanently increase production?

don't expect high quality for the 1c tomatos, went there 2 days ago, bought 0 tomotos

    • +5

No tomotos? or tomatos? What about the tomatoes?

  • +2

    Thanks OP! Just "bought" 2kg….

  • +4

yeah, these tomatoes are no good. they're basically all rotten. you will be paying 1c per kg to take away their rubbish. On the other hand, the $5 boxes of USA grapes the other week were awesome (~12kg) which would cost around $90 at woolies @ $7/8 per kg.

    • -2

Can confirm this is correct. All pretty much rotten. My mum went there just a few hours back. Shes an older lady and needed help with some groceries to be put in the car the guy there refused. Said she won't be back… I had no issues there though last time I went. Some things are really cheap and some are cheaper elsewhere…

Been here a couple of times, anything under 0.10c a kg is more or less destined for the dump.

      • Didn't know they are open 24/7! Thanks for the info.

Did you find their on sale items? usually runs out quick.

      • Hmmm, another 24/7 fruit & veg shop in Logan. Wonder what other 'produce' this one is selling from the back room?

        • You don't want to know ( ͡° ͜ʖ ͡°)

  • +2

Title should be Tomato Puree $0.01/kg

  • I like the no truck sign… guess some entrepreneurial OzBer gave it ago a while back… or maybe woolies gave it ago

  • +1

….this is definitely in my wheelhouse

  • Just buy 2kg - rounded down to 0c

    • Maybe they'll pay you 5c to take away 3kg.

  • Where can one get cheap tomatoes in Adelaide?

  • Im not tomatoes eater, but 1c is 1c. Will they ship to interstates ? :P

  • Is there anywhere similar to this on the north side of Brisbane?

  • +2
