Surely it's getting to the point that these need to either come down in price, or Dell needs to upgrade the specs?

The next platform after Apollo Lake is called Gemini Lake, which adds HDMI 2.0 (meaning, outputting 4k 60fps content) and also 15% increased performance.

I'm mainly familiar with the Shit Creek platform.

I see you're an AMD person.

        • @PainToad: The Intel I have is that he's Ryzen from the Chicken Coop!

        • It should come with Paddle 1.0. Heh heh - hmmm, tough audience…

These are good, though the screen is pretty average.
I've been trying to come up with a good reason to get another one without success.

    • They're selling so well Dell have no reason to lower the price.

  • I want to grab a 11 inch laptop for my 9yo daughter for Christmas. Is this the one or is there something else I should grab? I did look at the HP Stream 11 but I'm pretty sure they come with Celerons as opposed to this that has a Pentium.

I would get the touch version. At her age your daughter has probably only used touch devices so she wouldn't appreciate getting a non-touch version.

Pulled the trigger on the touch version, thanks!

Bought this for my 12 year old. Handy little unit. Can't fault it at this point, and decent price.

      • Bought this for me. Handy little unit. Can't fault it at this point, and decent price.

I have the 2-in-1 previous version of this (basically the same specs). I find it to be pretty good for almost everything except games and photo editing (which is a given). Battery life is 10+ hours when new, and seems to have dropped to about 8 hours at 18 months old. It's a good little unit for a few hundred dollars.

This is the touch version, the one I have, of this PC, $423 after 20% discount:

    http://www.ebay.com.au/itm/NEW-Dell-Inspiron-11-3000-Series-…

Keyboard folds back so it becomes a tablet.

Once you have used touch on a PC you will never want to go back to a non-touch device.

I have 2 * 8" Win tablets, a Lenovo Miix 12" 2 in 1, an iPad and an Android phone in addition to this Dell PC.

The Dell is my preferred sitting on the lounge while watching TV and travel device.

    • i thought the ipad would be a better device for tv and travel

Personally, I find the touch to be pretty useless. I have one of these and almost never use the touch functionality.

    • Thanks for the link to the touch version , just ordered one .

    • I got the non touch model with mediocre viewing angles. hows the viewing angle on the touch screen? Non sure if touch is worth the $100 difference if its just as bad.

Looks like it includes $70 cash off as well

      • meaning? you pay 423 dollars and get $70 back? or already inclusive in the $423?

        • -1

Not sure, mate. I just noticed the sign on one of the product's images.

    Rather wait for Ryzen 2700U

    I am a simple man….

    • cook story bro

  • are there any x86 tablets/laptops <$100 these days? Gone were the cheap dell venue days.

  • I am a simple man. I see Dell Inspiron 11 3000 for $319.20, I upvote.

Surely every single OzBargain member here would have this laptop by now.

    • +2

I don't but I did consider this laptop about 6 eBay 20% off deals ago.

  • How would this compare to a Surface Pro 1? Is it a genuine quad core or dual core w/ hyper threading like the SP?

  • -3

wow this is really crap, why so much love?

    • +2

Maybe price and what you need it for has something to do with it.

    • No it's not - it's like a quiet little Bumble Bee going about it's business in a cool, calm and measured manner.
If you need to upgrade to a Humming Bird then by all means do so, but don't be hazing the Bumble Bee.

don't you find it amusing, this model was selling at this price a year ago, and every other month this year, too. every man and his dog bought one, yet this is still a deal. at the same price as a year ago?

Moore's Law turned out to be more an aspirational statement.

      • Moore is more :)

  • Anybody know the power consumption of one of these with and without the screen on? I am looking for a replacement for my ancient netbook. Only use it to upload photos to amazon drive.

  • Can it run crisis 3?

  • Just picked up 2 for Christmas for the kidlets - I was toying with getting a Jumper Ezbook or a Chuwi Lapbook from Gearbest but not quite confident about buying laptops from them. So since "everyone" here has the Dell I'm pretty confident it's okay.

    • Can you please advise if you have received it yet. Just looking at buying it for Christmas but Delivery:
Estimated between Wed. 29 Nov. and Mon. 1 Jan does not fill me with confidence

      • I received it yesterday :) So about 2 weeks delivery. They provide tracking and updates all the way so I was pretty happy.

        • Thanks for taking the time to reply. Any feedback on the laptop itself ?

        • @Arsi:

It looks nice! Sorry but they're Xmas pressies so not sure I should turn them on yet.

  • Can I install and use Win7 64bit on these?
