    Is this product any good though? does it work? could it short out your electrics?

      They do work but the ones i have seen it is not like jump starting. You need to plug it in and wait for some time while it charges your car battery. Once your battery has enough charge you can start your car.

    looked at it a while ago. not really worth it. It may help start your car if your battery is discharged just below the starting point, but if you leave your lights on overnight, and think this will help, forget it.
