Orbitz is a huge company that owns loads of sites including (now) wotif. Their coupons usually have restrictions excluding most of the bigger chains from extra discounts. But for smaller chains and/or independent hotels it's fine and gives a nice discount :)
You have it the wrong way around. Wotif was bought by Expedia in 2015
Expedia also bought out Orbitz & Travelocity at around that time to help the Expedia group compete with Priceline (booking.com/agoda/Kayak etc)
But yes, all of the major league booking sites exclude chain hotels from their discount promos.

Nope just got emailed this deal so thought I'd share… ?
I know it says to put the coupon code in the checkout but once I press on the button "Reserve" I get to the page to put in my card details etc and the next button at the bottom is "Complete booking" and I don't want to press on the button just yet as I think that is the last button before confirmation of the booking. Anybody have a screenshot of where it should be?

How to use your coupon code:
During the booking process, on the payment page you will see the link ”Enter a coupon or promotion code” where you can enter the coupon code;
Enter the coupon code in the relevant field and then click the “Apply” button. If your booking is eligible, the applicable discount will be subtracted from the price of the travel reservation before the application of any taxes, applicable fees or additional costs.
This offer does not apply to multi-room bookings.

Not unusual, had the same thing happen with Booking.com with their site.
Suggest you contact the hotel directly and get them to quote you a price. Some of the ones we went to on our current trip said they would be willing to give us a better price if we went directly to them
