Sennheiser HD 4.40BT Headphones AU $188 @ Addicted to Audio

151

I bought these for $248 when they released. This is an amazing deal for these sensational headphones. I am a bit of a budding audiophile who owns headphones from Bose, JBL and all. These completely surprised me with their performance. They have excellent cushioning that provide great passive Noise Cancelling. Pairing with multiple devices is super simple due to its Bluetooth 4.X. It uses aptx. So, the sound quality is sensational even on wireless mode.

I stopped using my Bose Soundlink Wireless 2 headphones after I got these.

The new Sennheiser HD 4.40 BT offers high-quality wireless sound for every day listening on the move. The closed-back, around-ear headset features Bluetooth 4.0 and aptX compatibility to deliver true Hi-Fi sound with a satisfyingly dynamic bass. Its elegantly minimalistic design has been crafted from robust, high-quality materials to meet the requirements of the street.

"Budding audiophile" and "Bose, JBL" don't really belong in the same sentence lol

  • Is it possible to get something in this style (bluetooth plus over ear) and price range (sub $300) but with a mic for handling phone calls? Use case is walking around listening to music but being able to take the occasional call when it comes through without having to strip the headphones off etc etc.

These have powerful microphone. You can take calls on this without any issue. If you want Active Noise Cancellation go for HD 4.50 BT. They retail between $250 to $330. Yesterday someone mentioned to me that they are available at $199 at wireless1. But I haven't checked. I am also not sure about authenticity of that site.

I got the HD 4.50 BTNC from the Courier Mail headphone give away deal. Nice!.

    • Have a look at Plantronics backbeat 505 wireless around $90 at officeworks or Harvey's

  • 4.5BT has built in mic (due to noise cancelling), it works okay.

    $173.60 at wirelessly

Also $198 at good guys but it includes $20 store credit if you click and collect

If wireless1 is a dependable business, thats a good bargain. I never did any business with them. Addicted to audio is a retail store in newtown.

I've bought from wireless 1 many times before both online and at their retail store in Parramatta. Pretty good service every time so far.

        • Yes, they are good, had many purchases, no issues

        • Big fan of wireless 1. Which their Westfield Parra store was still there.

Nothing like killing time checking out what they had in stock.

I am not an audiophile but own cans like the sennheiser 6xx, fostex, akg k7xx and hifiman he-4xx series.

Just my opinion. Literally all australian audio shops are grossly overpriced. Just have a look for what the same item sells for overseas.

    • JB Hifi is notorious. They price match with other brick and mortor stores though.

    • +2

Dude, if you bought those cans, you're an audiophile. You don't buy those by accident..

      • +2

He might mean he isn't a person who believes he has magical ears for identity reasons and therefore they're immune to confirmation bias.

      • You don't buy those by accident..

You are if you’re wealthy. Go to shop and answer nonchalantly when asked about budget. Now you’re non-audiophile with expensive gear.

    • +1

I'll force you to take on the audiophile moniker by bestowing it upon you.

That looks exactly like a classic mid-fi arsenal.

Sounds like a page from Massdrop..

      • Crafted in the plastic extrusion machine!

    • +1

That's more audiophile than owning Bose, JBL. LOL, just saying.

      • i've got the cans hooked up through a Chord Mojo.

Ok, i think i get the point. lol.

I still don't understand all those audiophile jargons though. Only if the cans sound good or not….

        • with the cans you listed and pairing it with Chord Mojo, i think you have a very decent setup, considering you're dropped some serious dough with that setup.

  • +1

Never thought I would ever see or hear someone say "I am not an audiophile" and "but own cans like the sennheiser 6xx, fostex, akg k7xx and hifiman he-4xx series" in the same sentence. Guess I can tick that off the list then.

Maybe he isn't an audiophile. Maybe he is a prosumer of electronics who happens to enjoy bathing his ears in audio candy as a reward of his informed purchase decisions that were shaped from hours of online research, testimonials, reviews, and community forum involvement.

or they have a rich uncle who is an phile

        • +2

I see what you did there…

I'm not an audiophile. But i only own a Beyerdynamic DT 770 Pro 250 Ohm, Beyerdynamic DT 990 Pro 250 Ohm, Sony MDR-1A, Sennheiser HD 4.50 BTNC, JBL Everest Elite 300 and three pairs of Marley TTR Destiny Pulse headphones. They all hang on a wall on hooks.

  • Any good for playing games? By the looks of it sound quality is good.
If these are no good for gaming, could someone reccomend me a pair for a similar price ~ $170

    • +1

Not sure how good the sennheisers are, but I'd be surprised if they are better than these.

      • -2

That's an open-back headphone and so it obviously doesn't have noise cancellation, not even any passive NC. You are comparing a completely different type of headphone. People who buy that wouldn't be using them on the go like they would with the Sennheiser HD 4.40BT.

        • +1

Yeah maybe, but they only asked about gaming..so to elaborate; No, the sennheisers wouldn't be good for gaming. Bluetooth and noise cancelling are extra features that will get in the way of an accurate gaming experience. So I stand by my recommendation.

    • Though these perform well in reproducing the sound, you should be getting much better gaming wired headphones for that price. These are not exactly meant for gaming

    • Audio Technica ATH M50X should be a good option to use both for music and for gaming. They are currently on sale at $199 at addicted to audio and jb hi fi price matched it when I bought it for a friend

  • To anybody who has these, and a set of Bose QC35s.. how do they compare both from a quality, and sound standpoint?

    • +1

Bose does not divulge specs to make factual comparison with other similar products. So, we are left to comparing based on experience of using it. QC35 allows altering the noise cancellation levels. HD 4.5BT has only one level of noise cancellation. You switch it, you hear nothing from outside world. When it comes to sound performance HD4.5 or HD 4.4 should be the winner. Bose, as I experienced it, tune their products to perform in a certain way, and if you play with the equalizer, it starts performing badly. These ones, I found, perform really well across all genres and performance levels.
