Sony MDRZX110NC Noise Cancelling Headphones $38.40 + $10 Delivery @ Catch eBay

PCATCH

I bought a couple of these a while back.
Might not be "Bose" noise cancelling quality but definitely worth the money as I used them on a plane trip to the USA earlier in the year.
The noise reduction was great and made listening to the TV easier with a lower volume.
Also made sleeping easier as the ambient engine roar was much lower when sleeping with them on….yes I probably could have used earplug while sleeping instead…..

Currently $64 on special at JB Hi Fi

  • Works even when battery is depleted (passive operation)

    So it blocks the noise?

Do these make the low-freq noise suddenly go away when you flick the on switch, like a real noise-cancelling headphone?
Or does it only make a difference when music is playing.
I've been disappointed with cheap (brand-name) ones before.

    • yes the "Noise Cancelling" term is abused in the audio industry.
There's noise suppressing/block (called passive noise cancelling - it's not cancelling, it's insulating). There's active noise cancelling (which samples the outside noise, inverts the sound waves & feeds it into your headphones to cancel out the noise.

From what I've read if it's under $200, then they're mostly just junk active noise cancelling & rely on insulation (which is what a good snug pair of in ear headphones do).

    • I bought these for 50+ while ago.
You wouldn't hear the noise it cancels even when you are not wearing them.

  • +1

I bought these about 2 years ago, basically good for a cheap NC for a plane
Cons - crap without battery, slight breeze causes horrid white noise in the NC.

    • Apart from the NC, what's the sound quality like on these?

  • What sort of battery do they take? Struggling to find this information.
