Not the best price this has ever been but still a very good price for local stock with faster shipping than buying overseas.

damn thanks for reminding me, now seeing that flashing exclamation mark icon in my control panel.
Though looks like the latest firmware is from Oct 05 so doesn't look like they've rolled out the patch yet.
What model router are you running?
RT-AC68U using Merlin fw
Nice. REALLY burning to get the 68U. But there were too many good bargains these past weeks :(
Then which router can we buy?

https://www.windowscentral.com/vendors-who-have-patched-krac…
Eero
LEDE/OpenWrt
Mikrotik
Netgear
Ubiquiti
Scuba's comment was general, rather than specific to this. All of the custom firmware offerings will either patch it or not be vulnerable. In this case, put on ddwrt and you're golden =)
provided it's a model recent enough to still get DD-WRT updates…
Unless your neighbour (within WiFi reach) is an evil hacker, I wouldn't panic too much…
There is no known exploiting of the KRACK flaw.
Manufacturers were notified in July. The time required to pull off the exploit is large making drive by exploits impractical. The attacker must be within Wi-Fi range. The only thing it allows is injecting data (including Javascript), it does not reveal passwords.
The mainstream media has been reporting this as the end of Wi-Fi completely misinforming people as per usual and leaving consumers of their content worse off.
Yet..
My WiFi network easily extends across the street. I still get decent signal on my opposite neighbors' front porch.
No problem, i've enabled WEP so i'm safe now.
That one's had problems for years and they're easier to exploit given the amount of tools out in the wild…
I've got a secure password though with numbers and symbols see, P@ssw0rd
That's a very nice media collection you have there. Mind if I download a few games and ISO's from your hard drive? Just 2TB will do…
@scrimshaw: Yes, but don't look in my secure folder. You won't be able to find it anyway as i have the hidden attribute checked.
Why not? You'll find that most routers that are currently being used in homes are affected by the security flaw, and if they've been patched, a new device receiving the firmware update wouldn't be any different from those that don't keep their firmware up-to-date anyway.
I'm looking at the modem based one for $40 more. Really tempting, must resist.
Head : NO
Heart : NO
Wallet : NO
Me : SOLD
Isn't this a modem also?
See their model name
ASUS RT AC68U= Router
ASUS DSL AC68U= Modem Router. Also not just ADSL, it's also support VDSL so if you're using Fiber to the Node, you'll need this.
I see, thanks for the info!
Why would anyone buy one over the other apart from needing a FTTN compatible router?
Looks slightly cheaper from this seller with code P5OZZIE

any deal on Asus DSL-AC68U?
223.20 from the same Sydneytec seller.
https://www.ebay.com.au/itm/New-Asus-DSL-AC68R-Wireless-AC19…
Ok price I guess. It's normally $270 something from other stores.
Thanks. Will try to ask for the price match at centrecom if they can.
GET IT!
me and my brother both have had these for over a year now and love them xoxo
PSA: for those that don't understand the difference
RT-AC68U = router only (you'll need to BYO ADSL modem)
DSL-AC68U = ADSL modem + router
:)
(you'll need to BYO ADSL modem)
Only if you're not on NBN.
You still need your own modem on FTTN. HFC/FTTP is a bit different.
Correct, how is it a bit different?
You can essentially get away with just a router because NBNCo provide a cable modem/connection box into your home so you just have to plug in your ethernet cable.
Although this deal from Amazon has been marked as expired but we can still get it for the approx USD $94.00.
I am thinking about buying one from Amazon and flash it to Merlin or DD-WRT.
Can anybody please recommend on the product received from Amazon?
I personally wouldn't be buying any consumer grade router unless the manufacturer has patched the firmware for the WPA2 KRACK security flaw.
This router is compatible with Merlin which has been patched, but the stock ASUS firmware to date has not been patched.
