25% off Optus SIM Only $40 Plan (15 GB) and Free Optus Sport Pack When Signing up Via Chat

230

I started a chat session with Optus from the SIM Only page today, and he proactively offered me a 25% discount on the already impressive $40 plan (w/15 GB of data) and said the Optus Sports Pack was free and included as well, thus $30 per month including 15 GB of data. I accepted and have already received access to the Sports Pack while they port my number.

Here's a screenshot of the chat:

When I inquired further, he said:

"It is a special online chat offer we are offering today"

I wouldn't be surprised if it lasts longer than today.

  • are you new customer or renew?

    • New customer

  • dennis the menace

  • I just chat with optus. This offer is only available for new customer.

25% offer is available since last month.

requested last night this offer but I was turned down… i'll try again! ;-) thanks

[edit]: i confirm this is offered now… i just finalizing my port… as additional service to my existing optus mobile account.

    • so do you need two services on the one account for the 25%?

      • no. you can avail of the discount for a new service

25% discount only on $30 and $40 sim only plans.

  • I'm existing but I got round that by buying the $40 plan for $30 online (a recent offer), selecting to port my number across and selecting "other" as the mobile carrier I was porting from (which was Optus). I'm on the 15gb pan for 12mths, $30 a month. I was getting 10gb for $30 from a previous special on the $60 plan worth a $10 cable discount but I don't get bundke discounts now I'm on NBN with Optus. They screw up my bill every month now!

    • I was thinking of doing that too. Were you already out of contract with Optus? I still have four months left so not sure what the fees would be

      • I was out of contract.

        • it worked?

        • Yes it did. New plan started a few days ago :-)

        • @Galaxyman: Have you been on this new plan for more than 2 months?

Are you sure you are on the $30 discounted plan not the $40, as you mentioned earlier they have stuffed up your bill every month.

        • @Galaxyman:

just to confirm, it was optus (not resellers) to optus port?

  • Anyone know how does the first Optus bill work? I signed up this plan a few days ago and received my first Optus bill. To my surprise I got charged $45 bux and according to Optus support this is a security deposit on my account. They will refund me if I leave after 12 months. Is this true? I just dont trust them as they dont seem to know what they are talking about and I was put on hold for 50 minutes before someone told me that.

    • They always seem to charge for one months in advance when you first sign up, I dont know if you're supposed to get this back or not as I remember contacting them a few different times and being told different things.

The first bill will be pay in full that include $15 optus sport and the plan which ever you plan in $30 or $40. That will be refunded when contract ended. That will be refunded to pay your last bill.

    • I have the same issue too, my first bill came up to $55 when i only sign up for $30 plan. I spoke to two different person and been told different things. Funny enough when i spoke to the cancellation team, the person advised me that it was a mistake and credit me the different.

      • I need to speak to them as well

  • I'm on a 12 month BYO $40 plan with 12GB. What's the likelihood they'll let me 'upgrade' to this plan?

    • Unlikely, just spoke to online chat and told that offer is available only to new customers and cannot be offered to existing customers. My plan expires in just under a month…. looks like I'll be porting away if they can't offer anything similar. I'm paying $45 for 15GB with Optus at the moment…
If anyone has better luck, do share your experiences…

      • Would it be a good idea to port out to another company and then port back to Optus for this deal?

        • U can port to optus prepaid and port back…Will still count as a new customer

        • @going nowhere: I believe that's not possible… You can't port from prepaid to postpaid or vice versa with same provider.

        • @ClumpyGinger: I got it working the other day tho

    • Optus currently have a special which has come around quite frequently lately, 15GB for $30

  • First time porting (apologies for noob questions). I just spoke to Optus chat and they said I've been off contract since April so won't incur any termination fees. They said I would qualify as a new customer if I port out e.g. telstra then back to Optus.
Can I port to the Free Pre-Paid SIM Starter Kit, activate my number then port back to Optus? Or do I have to spend $$ on a recharge with Telstra?

    • No need to spend money. Just port out to Free Pre-paid starter kit and port back in…

  • I have been with Optus on a month-to-month plan for ages, but thought I'd try to talk them into giving this deal. They wouldn't budge. Offered to give it to me if I changed my number (I've had my number for a LONG time; not giving that up), so… Ported to Aldi, and have signed back up to Optus. One caveat if you're going to do this - I have to wait for the new sim to arrive. Going with Aldi means I'm covered for a couple of days of very light use, though (their SIM comes with $5 credit).

I don't get the strategy, though - I know most people won't bother to port out and back in, but if someone is determined, why make them jump through the hoop?

    • Oh, and I meant to add - the customer service rep told me I'd be charged $40 for the first month, and the discount would kick in after that (I got a lot of conflicting information talking to their various reps trying to get this set up).

FAQ at end of the page
Q: When will the access fee discount be applied and how long will it last for?
A: The access fee discount will be applied by the second bill. The discount will last for 24 months.

Q: Do eligible services also get access to other Optus Sport content like cricket?
        A: Yes

Q: If an eligible service recontracts or rate plan changes will the EPL Season access continue?
A: No, as this access is applicable only to the eligible services that are signed up to between 13-31 October 2017. If the service you recontract or rate plan change on to includes Optus Sport, you will be able to access EPL again however will need to sign into the EPL platform again.

Q: How and when will I get reimbursed for the Optus Sport subscription?
A: The $15 Optus Sport subscription will be reimbursed on your bill through $5 and $10 access fee discounts and will be applied by the second bill. This will occur every month for 12 months.

        • Hmm. Well, that's handy - but there were no FAQs to refer to when I was chatting to Optus - I was never referred to any other information (just the standard $40 plan details). So I didn't get told, for example, about the $15 charge in the first month for the Sport Pack (which I will not, ever, use). So thanks - I'll follow up with them on that.

Always an interesting strategy, where loyalty is penalised.

      • Not as bad as Vodafone. I was with them for 17 years (same number and connection) and couldn't get a single cent off their 'advertised to everyone' plans!
At least Optus used to give me a $10p/m loyalty rebate for having two services (phone and cable)!

When I was with Iinet (after my ISP got bought out by them), I was on a grandfathered plan that cost me more and got me less than plans advertised on their website. They said the only way I could pay the same as "current" customers was by committing for another 24 months! Long story short, I left.
