Recently bought new dual sim 32GB moto g5plus, but not because it comes standard with dual sim.
I don't need extra storage capacity.
Could possibly do with an extra "private" phone, but it would be used quite rarely.
Like to hear how others use their dual sim other than for extra storage.
How do you use a dual sim phone?

Supplementary question, how does one use a dual sim ipad? I have 2 SIMs in my ipad, and no idea why, I can only message the other phones n the account, so I think I may be underutilising it. I haven't dealt with apple products since my school installed Apple Macintosh Plus. it was the only Apple product I liked until the new iPad Pro.
iPads don’t have dual sim…
I have an embedded sim and a SIM I insert. I have the ipad pro 9.7" from last year.
Is it from the US?
and no idea why, I can only message the other phones n the account,
What do you mean ?
@knick007: I can use messenger to message the other phones on the same optus account as the ipad, but it wont let me message any other phones, I just use line instead. I use it as a mobile pc and drawing tablet, and get their messages on screen is a bonus. Its the 128gB 9.7" pro model with 4k camera and full colour screen. Its brilliant, but doesn't phone, I think…
Basically you just use your sim card as normal OR if you don't have one, you can use the inbuilt sim to connect to a wireless carrier and set the plan/etc through the Settings app in your iPad.

It's a bit different to the dual sim discussions elsewhere in this thread where you have a phone which can receive phone calls on multiple sim cards simultaneously, and use data connections on one of the two sims.
I have my primary number parked in first SIM for incoming only and Woolies $1 unlimited + 4GB SIM in second slot.
The obvious choice is while travelling, you can use the second sim slot by inserting a local sim card for mobile data. You can assign outgoing calls, incoming calls, sms and data to either or both of the sim cards.
Not sure what you mean by storage. SIM just gives you access to another mobile account, not storage. Some people like me have a long term number on the first SIM, and a disposable cheap data account on the second.
I believe the G5 makes double use of the 2nd SIM slot as the Micro SD slot. So it's one or the other. I can't find where I saw that, but it was on here the other day.
OP says he has G5+, it can take dual SIMs and storage.
He may be thinking it's a hybrid slot in which he can have dual SIM or single SIM + uSD.
My one sim works which has main number and long expiry pre-paid card. Second sim works as a cheap data sim so that i can hope that number.
one for each girl or boy friend?
I am with Vodafone on contract and they have crap reception, so i use optus (amaysim) on other sim (gropon deal..thanks to ozbargain). Once out of contract, will convert primary number to boost. I reckon network provider are giving out good deals to new customers..so use other sim to get best out of them…
Work/sim card on the first slot then personal number/sim card on the second slot.
one for drugs and the other for girls :-)
As others have suggested, I have SIM 1 as my main SIM, and get cheap data sims for SIM 2 (E.g. this or this.
Currently with Kogan Small plan (~$15.50 per month) with 1.5Gb data. One of the recent Groupon Vaya promos gives me an extra 2Gb/month for $3/month. This is about all the data I need, and as cheap as other options at the moment, though I'm always on the lookout for better deals.I might use it for a work phone, or a private number phone, but very low usage. I wouldn't want to be recharging every month for $$$$$$$$$$. What long-dated mobile deals are out there?
Aldi on Telstra brings annual deal every now and then
Any comments on the Aldi Go $30 PAYG https://www.aldimobile.com.au/plans/30payg/. They have a $15 one too. I don't need it for data, plenty on my main Optus plan used in Sim #1. It would get me Telstra coverage as a bonus.
Sim 1: Vodafone. Grandfathered month-to-month pplan
Sim 2: Telstra. "Mobile broadband,$50 a year"Vodafone1: Main sim card, calls, sms, etc; When not in range, forwards calls to Telstra number.
Telstra2: Receives calls and sms, data. Can't make calls. I provide this number to online competitions, and frankly it's now my spam number. If someone/something really needs my number - and that I don't really want them to have my real number - then they can have this one. When I travel overseas, telstra2 is removed and replaced with a local sim.
I've had 4 dual sim phones and never really used the second slot. Good thread.
Xiaomi redmi note 4x.
Main sim as data only) optus month to month 100gb for $70).
2nd sim as calls and texts with cheapo simZE552KL taiwan model
Main is telstra-Grandfathered Freedom+, 3G850; though 4G is avail to aggregate more (700 1800 4G+) if as needed
Data as Voda PAYG+addons; 850 1800 4G+ slot 2 (hotspot). Data would run 70c gbAdvising that I finally went with this Aldimobile prepaid 365 day package, the SIM is installed and everything went completely smoothly.

Had no choice of number but I could have transferred a number.Old thread but I use dual sim with my local Aussie sim and my Starhub prepaid sim (as I used to live in Singapore). The latter lets me get my Singapore OTPs/etc, as well as a roaming sim when travelling overseas. The dual sim nature of Android allows me to switch between the two in the software for selecting which sim is providing data.
LG G6
Main sim as main phone data talk and text.
2nd sim for burn out sim hich take call from people else where, promotion, Gumtree buyer, market place so I can disable the sim if I need to
I use one of my long-term overseas numbers on second SIM; roaming in Australia.
