Thanks Op, was looking for the expiry date and found it in case anyone was wondering:

    • So you are able to buy two only

      • 2 per transaction

    • What happens after 30 days, can I renew for the same rate or different plan? Was contemplating buying 2 of these but currently on post paid contract with Optus which doesn't expire until November so looking to switch to prepaid

      • this $4.90 is for new customer only so you need to port out and port back in if you want the same plan for the second month.

After 30 days? hopefully the discounted offers on the 365 day plan are back.

    • I'm a bit confused, what's the difference between voucher expiring and offer ending? On the site, it says offer ends 31 October

  • +2

Will this work if I used my number on a kogan sim in the past?

    • +5

I've done it before, so I'd say yes.

    • -1

Yes will work but you will need new CC for activation.

      • Do they even ask for a cc when activating? I only recall them asking for a cc for making the payment for the voucher which in this case is $4.90. I definitely used the same cc several times in the past.

        • yes they do

        • +2

Yes they will ask for CC for activation. You will not be able to complete activation while using the discounted voucher if the same CC was used previously for activation with discounted voucher.

        • @Bnjam3: Actually hmm yea you're right I think I recall having to put in CC details now.. my bad!

      • +1

Maybe it's changed, but I activated a few of these once before on the same card. Anyway, if it doesn't work, just open another Visa debit bank account somewhere that doesn't have account keeping fees.

Definitely activated quite a few on each CC before I needed to change it.
Not sure what the activation limit per CC was, seems to be very random..

  • Thank you OP. I needed something for a week before I go overseas and had a few spare Kogan Sim cards.

    • they also send you a FREE kogan sim

      • Indeed, but it actually auto-adds to the cart, so if u already have one, just delete it from your cart.

They expire if you don't use them, so not much point having them lying around

        • They expire if you don't use them, so not much point having them lying around

They don't seem to have an expiry printed on the sim packs..

        • @cwongtech: Kogan just do the printing/retailing. They may not even know, until someone tries to use one that has expired.

AFAIK, all sim cards expire, someone must have thought it a way to stop people abusing things.

Purchased Kogan $205 12 month voucher recently and the sim wasn't delivered before the voucher expired 12 days later, haven't heard back, don't know what to make of all this.

    • did you contact them?

      • Yeah, before it expired, they must have started the weekend on friday.

        • +1

I was on the phone to support on Saturday about a voucher issue and got sorted no problem, so they were working.

    • +1

Always good to ensure you have a few spare kogan sims on hand: sorry to hear hopefully you get a refund

    • +2

I had the exact same problem. Call support, explain the situation, they were quite helpful.

    • +1

In a previous offer the voucher expired 30/09 - I jumped in - SIM took 8 days to get to me (seriously - I have had Amazon ship quicker from the US - this was an envelope) - then after 4 days of attempting to port my previous number (I don't know who to blame here - Kogan or AldiMobile) - on the Friday 29th I bailed as I was getting conflicting information about what would happen to the voucher should Kogan not activate by 30/09 (I read and assumed forfeit). Now have to wait 15 days to get the refund but at least I am getting one. I might try again as the deadline is 2 months off.

  • My plan expires in mid-Nov. Will I be able to use this to recharge afterwards?

    It says New Customers Only?

    • +4

bobs your uncle if you port out and in ;)

    • +1

Yes, Robert is your mother or father's brother should you perform a bi-drectional SIM card portation.

  • Just got 100gb for $70 via Optus, I should have waited for this :(I

  • +4

Not as good as the $1 deal, but still pretty decent if you need some extra data and have a spare phone, tablet, wifi dongle or dual SIM phone.

    • +2

I have a dongle that never gets any use.

      • +1

        I hear ya.

  • Thanks OP! Don't feel so bad about the Optus $5 sim troubles. Used the $5 voucher from my cancelled order of those Emoji stickers.

  • do i need to purchase this with a new Kogan Account?

    • -2

      no any kogan account works.

  • Which network does Kogan use? Are there any network limitations imposed on Kogan customers?

    • +4

      Vodafone from memory

      • +4

        Memory serves you correctly!

      • +3

Vodafone… Price is right at $4.90 for 16GB then, Voda doesn't stay connected enough to even let me use half of that.

        • Have you got 850Mhz (B5) on your phone? B5 is basically the B28 of Vodafone from my experience. Without it, you'll have little-to-no 4G most of the time in rural areas.

        • @dyl: Haha how would I know? It's a lot easier to move to Optus/Telstra imo

        • @pennypincher98:
Just speaking out of personal experience. I had no 4G signal on Vodafone before switching to a device with B5.

  • +1

So much easier than the Optus SIM debacle. Thanks EC!

  • 880 clicks so far. Will be out of stock soon!

  • +5

Awesome! Was nervous no more sim sales were coming before my OVO expires

    • +1

      I'm with Novo too!

  • What the best provider to port out and port back in? Any provider gives our sims that can be ported into for free?

  • +1

+1 for the free sim card

  • Thanks, grabbed another. These things are great!

  • Thanks OP!

I had a spare new Kogan SIM card, voucher arrived less than 10 minutes after paying.

  • thank you

  • Thanks good deal although the sim is always free when purchasing a new plan so not accurate to say $2 saving.

  • can these sims be put into a usb modem card?

    • yes as long as your usb modem supports the vodafone bands.

      • I setup an older Optus 4G modem (Huawei) on Kogan a while back, it was a cinch. The trouble is just in rural areas, where Vodafone is often only available in 3G. You have to enable roaming beforehand for it to work seamlessly when visiting such locations. No charge for it though, so it's alright.

Kinda good to be on 3G sometimes tho, a slower link makes it easier to avoid going over your limit.

  • +1

wow first optus and now kogan. Looks like the competition for 4g prepaid data is hotting up! Could it be that amazon is coming soon?

  • Can this voucher be used to recharge an existing kogan number or do I have to port out and port back in to kogan?

    • AVAILABLE FOR NEW KOGAN MOBILE CUSTOMERS ONLY

      • +1

Based on reading this thread, I presume definition of 'new customer' is a) the to-be-ported number is not currently on Kogan network AND b) The credit card used for activation has never been used for a Kogan SIM before (ever?).

        • +1

          b) isn't necessary. With the voucher code, I don't think they ask for credit card details. Not 100% sure but even if they do, the card can be used before as I don't have that many cards for the number of times I have used this or the $1 deal… ;).

Even the email address for activation can be the same.

        • @sylvester328: Thumbs up and thanks for the heads-up.

  • anyone have a issue with kogan's sim activation when your credit card is denied because card name not matching,i had this issue with there $1 deal and eventually gave up even calling kogan didn't help fix the issue and reading on "product review" alot of complaints about credit card name as well.
iv'e never had a problem with my credit card with any other company.

  • Can I put this sim in a tablet or a vodaphone 4G Pocket Wireless Card?

  • How long did the voucher code take to arrive after 'order confirmation' email?
Trying to activate/port a number without much downtime as I already have a kogan sim from previous deal.

    • Straight after.

      • Thanks, mine came in after 4 hours.

  • The deal is on again, just now.
    3.10pm Wed. $4.90. Extra large 16GB.
Found a new cupboard full it seems.
