Free Short Course: PRINCE2 Primer @ IT Masters

431

This free short course will introduce you to the key characteristics of the PRINCE2 project management method and highlight what makes this method different. We will cover the most important principles and themes of PRINCE2 whilst showing where it fits among other project management frameworks, methods and concepts.

Why a PRINCE2 short course?

PRINCE2 project management certifications are among the world’s most in demand. These figures are slightly dated, but show that more than 1 million PRINCE2 examinations have been sat. Moreover, it is particularly relevant in Australia. From 2009-2012 the number of PRINCE2 exams sat in Australia increased by 170%.

Is there a final exam?

Yes – the short course exam will be a timed, open book exam that you will sit at your computer.

Do I get a certificate if I complete the course?

Yes — provided you receive a pass mark (50% or over) for course assessment, which comprises the exam and participation marks.

  • Thanks I've joined.

cheers. I've joined too. Free is free, and being in IT, its definitely worth expanding my knowledge (and getting more certificates) haha

Unless you take the official exam from PeopleCert it won't be recognised anywhere. The exam is approx. $300. If you're serious about obtaining the PRINCE2 Foundation certificate you're best option seems to be via this UK provider which includes an exam voucher: http://www.pmiq.co.uk/index.php?page=prince2-elearning&

      • Thx - Are you talking about PRINCE2 e-Learning Foundation Pack - BP: 349 ?

        • +1

That's the one I'm currently considering as it includes two exam attempts and the important manual. Though there's a cheaper one for BP 210 if you got other means of obtaining the manual and feel confident you'll pass the first time.

You are right - it's all about the certification. In practice, many organisations insist on using Prince2, but one a project kicks off, you never hear about it again. Many people don't actually care about doing it, but they insist you have it.

I wonder how good that UK provider is, and whether their material will be good enough to let you pass.

      • I know - But some free basic knowledge on a popular IT project management system is still worth the entry cost (free!)

It's free so hard to neg but considering it's utterly useless and may give the impression you get the actual PRINCE2 certificate it's still worth a neg. It's not a bargain as you're wasting your time with content you will have to repeat when you're looking to obtain the actual certification. For $15 you can get the full PRINCE2 Foundation preparation program through Udemy (you will still need the PRINCE2 Manual and take the exam at $300): http://udemy.com/prince2-foundation-training/

As per previous forum discussion this UK provider still seems to offer the most affordable option of obtaining the PRINCE2 Foundation certificate: http://www.pmiq.co.uk/index.php?page=prince2-elearning&

…its starting to sound like you are married to this UK provider.

Found a German provider that's 20 Euro cheaper but figured I'm better off sticking to the same language I'd be using it in. Please let me know if you find a cheaper one. I'm actually looking for another one as I'm not sure that UK mob is training the latest 2017 version or still 2009. Emailed them to find out.

        • as a follow up - never got a reply from them. I guess it's a case of 'you get what you pay for'

    • Not utterly useless if your objective is to actually gain PM skills to apply in your workplace and work more effectively.

Useless for padding a hollow CV with off-brand certificates? Sure.

I've done a few of these IT Masters courses.
There's quite a bit of marketing bs about the university and attempted up-sell to get you into a paid degree.
Once you get though that, they're pretty interesting.

I've done the scrum primer. These are nice free courses to give you an intro into the the subject. You also get free lecturer material like slides.

I thought Prince 2 was the love symbol?

  • +1

Prince 2 is how Project Management was done 10 years ago. His is like a developer studying COBOL :)

    • and everybody passes…

    • What would you propose as a better alternative?

      • Agile. Small percentage of people still prefer Waterfall but Agile is the No 1 these days. No one uses Prince.

Under which kingdom do I get to be a prince with this course?

    • The kingdom of 2

      • As long as it's a controlled environment!

  • can't do it during my exam period :(
