      Oh damn, very nice!

  • Nice! If only it included transmission and differential oil.

  • Bought 4 bottles of the Penrite 10 Tenths. Good deal.

Now if only there was the opportunity to combine with an Amex statement credit!

wait till amazon starts up this month, you aint seen nothing yet. Engine oil is supposed to be cheap, even full synthetic.

    • I used to get from Amazon Red Line 5W-40 in cartons cheaper than what I pay for local stock. Admittedly, the AUD being on par with USD helped as well.

      • that's some good stuff that red line. IMHO when Amazon comes around we should see some quality stuff like royal purple / pennzoil / mobil 1 /etc.. at really good prices.

        • Mobil 1 is good if you look for the guys who sell oils that they privately import. I get very good deals on Mobil 1 from my local supplier that comes from Europe. Sure the bottle is a little funny compared to what SCA/Repco/Bursons sell, but at a very good price.

        • @t25: How can I find them?

        • +1

@newreg1: Check in your area for oil distributors. Enquire around. Best place to join a few car clubs, as they will know who to look for.

I believe Sydney has GL Lubricants. But his stock looks more American than European.

My local guy brings Mobil from continental Europe/UK. You can tell by the packaging if you know what to look for.

        • @t25: Thanks!

    • Where did you see that Amazon will start up this month?

        https://www.theguardian.com/australia-news/2017/sep/27/the-g…
[Citibank analysts predict Amazon will hit Australia in October, although the business itself is tight-lipped about the details. In the lead-up this 24,000 square metre warehouse is shedding the red-and-green branding of former tenant Bunnings for Amazon yellow]

the warehouse is already starting to ramp up :D

The amazon australia website has already been up and running for years but selling only books and kindle stuff, so they just have to sort the warehouse side and its ready to go live.

There are also plans for amazon prime australia and amazon fresh food deliveries soon.

    • Do u mean there is gonna be Amazon for Australian opening shortly?

  • Not for Castrol TTS :(

Does not include motorcycle specific oils.

  • I usually buy Castrol Edge Engine Oil - 5W-30, for around $30.

  • Castrol Edge Engine Oil - 5W-30 / 5W-40, 5 Litre can get cheaper, under $35

    • Yep agree, those go on sale quite often especially at repco/Autobarn. This deal is best for purchasing nulon or penrite imo.

  • Have they ever got sale on motorcycle oil?

    • +1

Might have for just the penrite brand, but I haven't really seen any…

  • I recently got a second hand Hyundai Getz for the wife. It says it's needs 5w-30 oil. What should I get for reasonable price/performance? (don't need fancy stuff)

    • Go 5w-40
Same protection when cold, yet better protection once the engine is warmer, as the oil will handle higher temperatures.
If you plan to keep it, go Mobil 1 0w-40, which will provide better cold/startup protection.

      • Thanks cool. I'm just looking for midrange stuff…nothing fancy. Makes sense to go the higher heat tolerence oil. 5w-40 it is. But which one? (I suspect the 0w-40 will be a bit pricier)

        • If you're just looking for the 'standard' one, usually the castrol edge 5w-40 is what people (me) would get. They were half price last Saturday but 35% is not bad.

        • +1

          It is almost double.
If you live in a cold region, it would be good as a winter oil.
          As for Summer
          - Penrite HPR 5 Engine Oil - 5W-40, 5 Litre $40.94
Should do the trick and iirc is Aussie made/owned.

        • From the list above I'd choose the Penrite HPR5 1st or if just running around on short trips then the Magnatec stop start will be fine. I've used both with no complaints but the Penrite has a strong following and it's Australian. Depends on how many km on the engine and the driving conditions.

        • Miniscule advantage/difference with a 0. You also don't need a working temperature number higher than specified (30), unless you're burning an unusual amount of oil or have engine seal issues etc. Every viscosity jump will cost you a 2% decrease in fuel economy.

I usually aim for low saps and other well rated oils that try to keep tailpipe emissions to a minimum (new standards anyway). Aren't I a thoughtful guy?

    Thanks OP. Got one!
