BigBrownBox have got Acer OEM hard cases (made for the Aspire One 8.9 model) for $2 shipped - they're not particularly attractive, but they are of pretty decent quality as they're made by Targus.

The site is a bit light on details, so here's some from the case I received:
Name: Acer Asipire One 8.9 Inch Hardsided EVA Case
Acer Product Code: 90.30628.229
Measurements (my own measurements):
- External: 29cm x 23cm x 4.5cm
- Internal: 25cm x 19cm x 3.5cm (estimated thickness)

It looks like one could get a 26.5cm wide netbook in the case with a bit of a squeeze, though having tapered edges on the netbook would probably help this as the case tapers in about half a cm in.

But hey. $2!

    Good deal considering that that techbuy sell this for $76.65 and a few othes have this RRP of $79.00. Have to check if it will fit my ASUS 8.9" netbook.

          I'm open to offers, bearing in mind these allegedly fit an iPad, so the price has now doubled compared to what it would have been lol! Post/pickup would be from 3150 VIC.

          I don't actually need them, but thought it would be useful for when I get round to getting a decent Android tablet, so I'd probably hold on to 2 of them. So there's 3 up for grabs.

    Got mine this morning, fits a 10.1" EeePC like a glove. It's a very substantial case….no wonder they retail at such a high price.
