AA sold out so only AAA left. Yes these are not as dear as OzBargain's favourite eneloops but worth as a good backup.

Good ol' Eneloops are rechargeable so really what's the point of backup? Plenty of Eneloop deals lately to stock up and do the environment a favour too.

    • For the prices that eneloops go for, I cant afford to have many as backup and charging takes time. Recently had to buy some of these as I had no eneloops with charge in them. I prefer eneloops but these do come in handy sometimes.

Not everything is suited to rechargeables, low drain devices like wall clocks and remotes are better with alkaline.

Just be careful, some stuff really doesn't like rechargeable batteries, so I always have to have a box of AA and AAA alkalines nearby.

I have a whole bunch of multimeters and test equipment that doesn't work well or at all with rechargeables. Manual specifically states not to use rechargeable batteries, and when I did try it anyway (I like a challenge) they gave weird inaccurate readings yet didn't show the "battery low" warning. Haven't had a chance to figure out why yet. I'm too tired to pull out a dummy load now and do some experiments, but one day I'd like to. Rechargeable batteries don't drop much in voltage when they are nearly empty, but maybe they can't supply enough current when they are low. No idea. Luckily I know enough to recognise those bogus readings, but I'd be worried that amateur electronics enthusiasts might not realise their meter is displaying the wrong values, then waste lots of time and money thinking things are broken (plus lots of anguish/pulling out their hair/etc.)

    Bunnings Varta FTW

Wrong link; AAA is 24x for $9.92.
But yeah, no point in buying these Duracells unless you live in the middle of nowhere or something.

    • I find the Varta less likely to leak than many other brands. I've had lots of Duracell and Energiser batteries leak prematurely, damaging or destroying expensive equipment. Jaycar batteries are a lot better but will leak a little eventually. Haven't had any Varta cells leak yet, and I started using them maybe five years ago.

    • Parallel import, probably same quality though.

  • There are so many fake duracell batteries, I dont bother anymore….just saying. I AM NOT SAYING THESE ARE FAKES

Lol at disposable batteries….and the people who buy them in bulk.

    • LOL at people who throw out perfectly good working equipment thinking it's broken, because it doesn't work with rechargeable batteries.

I actually get paid to 'fix' some of this 'broken' equipment.

There aren't many things that won't work with rechargeables, but there are enough that it's stupid to laugh at people who still need to use alkaline batteries.

        Name one.
Anyone buying disposables in bulk today is stupid, or still thinks they lose a lot of charge sitting around. Eneloops have been out for over a decade..

I buy alkaline batteries in bulk because I have to fix equipment then return it to clients in working condition. I would rather not give them Eneloop batteries that 1) cost a lot of money 2) I will never see again and 3) they may never recharge. You just called me stupid for buying disposable batteries in bulk. I'd call you the same, only I'm not rude like you are.

I know you'll probably live longer than everybody else because you avoid WiFi but your long existence might be rather miserable if you have no friends all those years after calling people stupid. Life Pro Tip - people tend to respect you and your opinions more if you are nice to them. If you're rude people won't bother wasting their time with you.

  • I bought these a while ago and they don't last anywhere near as long as those you buy from coles or woolworths.
