    Which teachers are those? I’m a teacher and am at work from 7:30 for classes to start at 8am. Classes then run till 3:15, meetings till 4:30 and extra-curricular programs run till 5:30 or 6 depending on the night. As for those ‘holidays’ I’m in all of this coming week running practice exams for Year 12 students and the second week of the ‘holidays’ will be spent marking them, cross marking them and preparing revison resources for the beginning of term. There are probably about 5 weeks per year which would count as an actual holiday and one of those is the Christmas to New Years period which most professions have off anyway. So I guess we’re back to 4 weeks additional leave, same as everybody else, except I can’t choose when I take it. 12 weeks and 9-3? Time for a reality check.

      So true, coming from a family who are mostly teachers. I could rave on for hours about this, it makes me cross and comments like this are hurtful. My parents spent countless time after hours to ensure that their students get the best education possible. If a teacher walked into class at 9am with nil prior planning, lessons would be all over the place, repetitive and not to syllabus.
