Is it $49 per month + $200 Gift Card?

Are there any International calls included?

    • +1

      Yep, $49/month + $200 Gift Card

Going off the current BYO Plans, International Day Passes are included.

      • +1

intl day pass is for making calls when in those countries and not for making calls from Oz

    • Yaar don’t think so, look at the t&c

    • +1

      No international calls included

  • $10/month (via credit)
—-what's that mean? I need to shop at JBHifi every month for 24 months, to redeem the credit?

    • +6

$10 monthly credit applied to your bill

  • Is this Telstra or a third party powered by Telstra?;
Also, what price is it after the 12 months?

    • Telstra purchased through JB HI-FI, after the credit runs out it would go back to $59/month

    • +2

I was told by staff discount and extra 5gb would remain after 12 months

      • Can confirm this. Was told that the extra data and $10 discount will continue to be applied even after the 12 months is finished.

      • +1

        My contracts says
5GB Mobile Data Share Bonus - Until Recontract
Go Mobile Plus Additional Service $10 Credit - Until Recontract
Sounds like it continues after 12 months

  • +9

Not a fan of "port only/new to telstra" prices, but seems like a great deal

  • I wonder what are the chances of Telstra matching this deal via live chat

    • Yep, I was thinking the same. If they can match the $49 p/m then i'm in.

      • You can get the $49 plan and additional 5Gb if done online, if I interpreted Telstra correctly.

    • +1

Maybe a stupid question, even though this deal is with Jbhifi but running Telstra networks.
Whats the benefit for Telstra matching the same deal>?

      • +5

don't have to pay JB-hifi commission?

        • +8

Maybe, but if that was case why wouldn't you want them to have the commission?
Its a 3 way win for all parties.

If Telstra did match it, I do highly doubt that they will give the $200 credit for JBHIFI.

I will on the flip side, ask them for:

Matching the deal for porting $49m + convert the $200 credit to P/Month to be $16.66( TO BE PRECISE)
=$32.33 Per Month (TO BE PRECISE)

          Shouldn't that be better?

        • @Temptation:

mainly for data sharing/pooled data, if you have existing/other services with telstra already

        • +1

@Overtime2000: I don't see why you wouldn't be able to data share on this plan? This plan is 100% Telstra after the sign up.

    • +6

and then miss out on the $200 gift card.

    • +5

This is JBHI as a Telstra re-seller, not as a MVNO .

      Telstra BYO Plan 20GB DATA + UNLIMITED CALL&SMS for $59/Month (with $10 credit per month = $49/mth.

I calculate the cost of the 12mths as

      $59 x 12 = $708.00
      less
      Credit $10 x 12 = 120

      TOTAL $688.00

      * Includes $200 JBHIFI Gift voucher.

      The CIS is here: https://www.jbhifi.com.au/Global/images/2016/08/telstra-form…

If you were going to spend $200 at JB in the next 12mths and you currently spend around $49 a month on Mobile, and need 20GB - this is a good deal.

      • +28

        Something's very wrong with your math if 708 - 120 is 688…

        • Slippery finger typo $588…….

        • +11

@hoopera: :) I know, but this is the internet. A vast and barren wasteland where no mistake is forgiven and trolls roam under bridges waiting to post.

        • +21

          @Slippery Fish:

Thats why whenever I need to do math, I purposely post the wrong numbers so that some young buck with something to prove does the work for me. Make the negativity of others work for you :)

        • +10

^ send this guy straight to upper management

        • +1

          @outlander: haha that's great thanking.

        • +1

@Slippery Fish: I see what u did there

  • -3

if only we can share this with 1 or 2 other numbers (so 3 family members shares the plan data and call quota), i will take it.

  • What if im already with Telstra?

    • +17

Grab a Optus or Voda Sim, $2. port out and then port back into Telstra….. ;)

      • +1

Telstra normally don't let you do this unless you've been with another carrier for 6-12 months.

        • Is this true? I am currently going through some boost prepaid sims and had some trouble trying to port back in to another boost prepaid sim after porting out to Vodafone temporarily.
My port out from boost -> Voda went fine, but trying to port back into boost the same day seemed like it wasn't working.
I was doing the porting and sim activation via online chat on boost website (I can never seem to get passed the home address confirmation, when trying to activate myself via mobile on the website, anyone else have this problem? Haven't tried on PC yet)
anyway, the customer service rep said they have successfully initiated the port, and after a few hours it still hadn't ported successfully (previous port to boost took less than 10 minutes, as well as the port from boost -> Voda took <10 mins)
When I spoke to a new boost CS, they said they are still waiting on the port from boost out to Voda (even though it had already happened, as I was using my Voda sim with current number just fine) and he was saying that their records show of my porting out of boost earlier that day, and he was sounding a bit suss like he knew what I was doing and didn't really help me.
Anyway after all that headache, I just decided to buy $10 credit with Vodafone and use them for a week, and then try the boost sim again. But I'm hoping what you're saying about the 6month thing isn't true… That would be a disaster for sim hoppers with Telstra/boost sims….
p.s apologies for the long comment ^^" any help/input is appreciated cheers

        • +1

I asked JB staff this morning, they said it shouldn't be a problem. I'm currently porting my Boost number to Optus and will go back to JB this afternoon to see if they'll accept it. (fingers crossed)
Optus stop porting numbers on weekends after 6pm Saturdays so for anyone else considering doing the same, you need to jump on it now

        • +1

@4KGrubby: i have the same problem with boost with the address problem when activating the sim online, and same problem with same day porting out then with boost but was from boost to amaysim and then back to boost, apparently it was so because the system on the boost side tall have not updated that the number has not been ported out (to amaysim in my case), hence the port in request is treated as error so best to wait a day or two before porting back to boost.

        • @Datatemp:
Well it's good to know you had the same issues as me, haha! ^^
At least I know it's not just me, and now that I'm aware of it I can plan for it next time. Yeah like I said, I just ended up putting credit on the Voda sim I ported out to, I was planning to port back to boost after the credit expires (1 week) and I'm sure it would be clear on their end by then.
Regarding boost sim activation, yeah it's a bit weird with the error confirming the address step, I was using safari on my phone, I haven't tried on pc yet but will give it a go next time and see if it works, are you the same? And did you just end up talking to CS and them activating the sim as well? Cheers

        • +1

@4KGrubby: failed on all platform and different browsers, always have to use live chat

  • So is the $10/month credit only for 12 months (and not permanent)?

    • +6

It's unclear if the $10 credit extends past the 12 months. I would assume not, but after the 12mths just port to the next best offer in the market at that time.

12months ago there was not a $49 offer for 20GB, and who knows in 12 months there will be one for 30GB or more…… you never know.

I wouldn't sign up for any mobile plans/contracts longer than 12 mths at the moment - it's pretty competitive with data allowances now.

    • The credit is permanent.

  • This data competition is great for us consumers. I am hanging onto optus atm until my $150 of credit for the referrals finishes… Got a really good gold number I got from the amaysim for the other ozbargain deal that I'll port over with.

    • Now I'm curious… Firstly, what's a gold number? And secondly, if it's just a normal number and gold was your extra adjective for this good number, care to share it? :) I have been on the lookout for a good number to start fresh with, and well, I'm just interested to know what you got, and consider good/gold? ;)

Note: obv don't need to give out the real number, switch a few around eg. If it's "0410 200 300", you could cipher it as "0420 700 900" etc.

No pressure anyway, just curious hehe :) if you ignore me I won't mind, I probably would do the same (not really) but I guess I'm just a bit bored ATM ^^

      • +1

For examples, see here. Basically gold numbers have repeating digits or easy to remember sequences, or numbers that are pleasing in some other way.

        • Oh I see! :) there's quite the premium on some of those gold numbers!
Did you get your gold number by chance/luck? Or did you buy it?

        • meh, if those are gold numbers, i think mine can be sold at thousand dollars. Most of the people shocked when they first found out my phone number, well, but, anyway, just saying..

        • +1

          @4KGrubby:

I was lucky on amaysim you can do a check for 5 numbers i think it is that you want to be in your new number i chose the first 5 numbers and there happened to be one with a 0 on the end so i ended up with 0432 then my date of birth like 0432 131260 at no extra cost.

        • @0031nek: I am same lots of zero in my number that easy. i got it $2 out Vodaphone sim box well board at work one day.

        • @paulaus:
          How?
          Link?

  • Do i need to pay all the 12 months up front or pay monthly?

    • +2

Just like all monthly plans you pay monthly.

  • Anyone know if this has 4GX?
Are you signing up to Telstra, or JB Hi-Fi Mobile using the Telstra network?

    • +3

Pretty sure JB Hifi don't have a MVNO and they're just a Telstra reseller.

    • Looking closer at the Ad it states 'JB Hi-Fi Mobile powered by Telstra'
      4GX?

    • Mobile coverage
You can access 4GX coverage if you have a 4GX compatible device
and are in a 4GX coverage area. If you’re outside 4GX areas or if
you have a 4G or 3G device, you’ll receive access to our 4G or 3G
      coverage.

  • Would this have the AFL pass?

    • +3

      Yes it does

At the bottom it specifically mentions the plan is: Telstras Go Mobile Plus BYO.

all Telstra plans now include it

  • Do i have to buy a phone from JB and then sign up for this or just walk in, show them this photo and say put me on this plan with my existing phone?

    • the deal is a sim only plan, works best if you port your number to telstra

      • I get that - you want to get the $10 credit per month and $200 gift card. My question was more around - is there any JB online portal to do this or i just walk in store and ask to be put on this plan?

    • +1

It looks to me like it ties in with the middle option below. Heading reads "Buying an outright phone?"; I'd hope that's only a sales pitch, and not mandatory.

      https://www.jbhifi.com.au/features/phones/activatenow/

      • I have the same question too. I really love this deal but don’t need a new phone right now.. Can anyone enlighten us?

      • +1

Lionel Hutz could give you a good break down on the grammar and what it means for you as the consumer

    • +5

Just confirmed with a staff, we DON’T NEED to buy a phone from JB Hifi.

Just go into a store, show them the flyer you got from this deal page, and they will switch you over right here right now and give you the $10/month credit and $200 voucher 😊

      • +1

        You forgot credit check.

  • Do you have to be a new customer for the 29GB? That is what the asterisk suggests.

    • It looks to me you get 15GB standard if you are not a new customer - a bonus 5GB a month, making it 20GB if you are new.

      • Then it really isn’t any different to the Telstra plan from their website :((

        • +4

I don't think the plan on Telstra's website gives a $200 Jb hifi gift card. And this deal also gives a further $10 off per month if porting into Telstra.

        • but the $200 jbhifi store credit though

        • @Harshad: if you aren’t porting your number, you literally get no bonus. You don’t get the gift card.

        • +2

@FakeRayBanz: True. This deal is only beneficial to someone porting into Telstra and this has been specified in the deal title.

    • +1

Just checked with staff, switching to any Telstra plan with original plan value (before $10 credit) more than $59 per month can unlock this deal

      • Interesting, including plans which "come with" a mobile phone included?

  • thanks for this…my contract with voda just ran out…might head to JB Hifi tomorrow

  • +1

Does porting from Woolies (Telstra wholesale) into 'Telstra' Telstra count?

    • +2

Confirmed with Staff, the deal is valid for Woolies mobile customers, BUT NOT FOR BOOST.

If you currently have Any landline, mobile broadband services with Telstra, this deal is also valid for you as long as Your Mobile Phone Number is not Telstra/Boost

  • +1

    Seems like 2 different offers.

One just a 12month sim only plan.

The other to port over for 12 months.

    • 5gb extra Seems like the same offer, but $10/month credit and $200 gift card are ‘additional’ offer if you are porting over

  • so essentially works out to be $32.33/mt after $10 discount and $200 gift card. No thanks, I'll stick with my recent $3.40/mt amaysim 2GB unlimited plan ;)

    • +6

$32.33 ($3.23 per 2gb) is actually better value for 20gb than $3.40 is for 2gb, assuming you will use that data.
Plus Telstra over amaysim perks :)

      • +1

Not forgetting that Amaysim is a 28day renewal compared to the calendar month renewal of this deal.

        • True true! Think about those 12 days at the end of the contract!

        • @pennypincher98:

          12 days?

        • +5

@pennypincher98: difference is around 1 month actually not only 12 days

        • @Sharp: Oh yeah 1 months difference. Was going on the assumption that every month is 30 days and amaysim is only 6 months

        • @Sharp:
Actually more like 2 weeks 6x28=168 divide by 7 = 24 weeks. Against 26 weeks but i guess depends what 6 months.

    • Hehe, that's like me saying I won't purchase petrol and use my car because the fuel costs $32.33/month, I'll stick to taking the bus for $3.40/month ;)

  • +1

As someone that is experiencing very bad Optus reception and slowness, I am really tempted.

As the main account on Optus, if I leave, would my second service have issues? Or is it simply a matter of removing a service from Optus and my second services will be unaffected.

    • +1

I doubt, unless you’re getting second service discounts or something similar

  • Does porting from Telstra prepaid count? :)

    • im curious about this too

      im guessing it does

      be good to get confirmation

    • Porting from Telstra prepaid doesn’t count, because technically your number is Telstra number. (You can always try your luck at the store though)

      Repeating my other comments above:
**Confirmed with Staff, the deal is valid for Woolies mobile customers, BUT NOT FOR BOOST.

If you have Any landline, mobile broadband services, this deal is also valid for you as long as Your Mobile Phone Number is not Telstra/Boost **

  • Da fark

I just signed up to their $49 plan yesterday

    • +5

Cooling off period? Call them and ask for 20GB, or tell them you'll fark off to optus.
