  • Can this do bitstream audio like AMD?

  • +1

Damn that's a good price, thanks OP.

  • Just bought the 3GB ver for $255.00 :(

    • +1

Is only 3GB, you can sell it in 18 months and upgrade when these cards are all cheaper. 3gb 1060 is very capable. Just turn the grass and textures in GTA V to medium to save vram.

    • So did I and I would still buy it again over this. I dont think the extra $80 ish dollars is worth the performance gain.

  • RX580 or this?

    • Mining or gaming (or both)?
      Gsync or Freesync (or neither)?
      1080p? 1440p?

    • +3

      There's no real clear answer.
580s are more expensive but on average slightly faster. Freesync is cheaper than g-sync, but freesync has some downsides like more stutter at low framerates than gsync (i'm not sure if they've fixed this though so double check me on that) and also cheap 1060s generally have better temperature and noise than cheap 580s because they dont really need nearly as much in the way of cooling.
Just go with what your heart tells you or something man.

      • +14

My heart says 1080 but my wallet says 1060. My wife says onboard is fine.

  • How does it compare to this ASUS $368 (after eBay 20% off code) https://www.ebay.com.au/itm/362067284350? (the difference I can see here is the output ports)

    • +2

that card is simply more expensive because futu typically jacks up their prices

i have found that the gigabyte one i have clocks the memory faster than the asus ones

without taking into the account above, i don't see a 10% advantage towards the ASUS and would just go with the cheaper ones

      • Thanks for your reply. Can you give me some advice on the issue I discussed with Lief1250 in the few comments below. Thanks!

    • +1

Looks like the ASUS has 2 heatpipes rather than 1 on the Gigabyte so the cooler should be better but this MSI card has a similar cooler setup and it performs fine and even overclocks a bit.
The video outputs aren't an unimportant difference too, i'd certainly trade 1 DVI port for an extra HDMI and DP.

    • +2

I bought this one last time from futu for $360. Now I hate myself seeing this post lol

    • +1

Oh hey this is cheaper http://www.ebay.com.au/itm/Asus-nVidia-GeForce-GTX-1060-Dual… with PARTY18
I went with that one, came up to $348.50

      • Thanks so much for your reply.

Can you advise whether this card helps with running 3x 1920x1080p 60hz and 1x 2560x1080p 60hz monitors? This is the reason I prefer the ASUS one due to their video outputs of 2xHDMI and 2xDP instead of 2xDVI of the Gigabye one.

I'm not playing any games, 4 monitors are for productivity and multitasking like Spreatsheet, browsers, YouTube, light Photoshop editing etc.

My PC specs is currently running Windows 10 with I7-4790, 32GB RAM, 500GB 850 EVO, PSU 750W and Gigabyte GTX 750 2GB. Installing latest Windows 10 update and nVidia graphic driver version. All 4 monitors are plugged into the same graphic card.

With running 4 monitors, I'm experiencing screen shuttering/frame refresh (not sure how to correctly describe it) occasionally, especially lagging or the windows trasition is not smooth when using "Task View" in Windows 10. Not sure if this is caused by Windows 10 itself? Occasionally, all monitors are shut down for a few seconds, then turn on immediately after that or even BSOD.

Those issues are very annoying given that I need to open and switch between windows/applications constantly.

RAM usage never reached 25gb out of 32gb, and CPU usage is always around max 40%.

Interestingly, by checking GPU usage in GPU-Z, it shows the GPU load is around 0-10% ongoing or sudden surge to 70-80% when using Task View. Memory is 1.2GB out of 2GB. Temp is around 31 degrees.

Do you think my above described issues are due to my weak graphic card? And would upgrading it with the ASUS GTX1060 6GB help? Or this is too overkilled for my use case?

Money is not a big factor. I want something working smoothly.

Sorry for my very long reply. Thanks a lot and looking forward to your advice.

It says here the 750 only supports 3 displays so that may be your issue. Even higher cards in the 700 series seem to support 4 monitors and from what I can tell from forums and spec sheets the 1060 does too.
Unfortunately I had to dig a bit for that because nvidia decided to stop keeping useful information on their website and made the 1060 page all pretty and uninformative.
That's about all I could find, I hope it helps

        • +1

as per Lief1250 link, your graphics card officially only supports 3 monitors. there are chips on the board that generate the display refresh/timings and so officially if the graphics card only supports 3, it is possible for manufacturers to add more chips on, or put a "splitter" on it

what you're experiencing is probably an incompatibility or that extra splitter isn't able to cope with the timings given.

NVIDIA has changed the way it quotes how many displays you can have and gives you a more "useful" metric which is what total resolution you may have
          https://www.nvidia.com/en-us/geforce/products/10series/gefor…

here you can see that the 1060 6gb supports up to 7680x4320@60Hz, which means that you can have 4x 1920pixel wide monitors maximum in the horizontal direction and 4x 1080pixel high monitors in the vertical direction. This theoretically means that you can have a 4x4! of course there aren't that many timing chips on there but you can expect that it will match the number of DIGITAL ports

do keep in mind that these are for compatibility with the timing chip they have used, you can't expect to go over either dimension with much luck!

        • @peter05:
Thanks for your advice. Based on your info, my current setup of 3x 1920x1080p 60hz and 1x 2560x1080p will exceed the supported dimension in width?

Based on the reading usage by GPU-Z I provided above, do you think this card is too overkilled for my use case? 3GB model is sufficient?

Can you explain a bit more about the "timing chip" part?

I plugged 3 monitors into the Graphic card and 1 into my motherboard (which has 3 video ports and is said to support up to 3 monitors) before, they are working fine. I just thought/assume it's better to plug all 4 monitors into the same card for better performance?

Just found this one. It's a bit cheaper here $343.58 http://www.ebay.com.au/itm/192199105062

  • The code PARTY18 doesn't work

  • would a 500 watt PSU be enough for this card?

    • Easily.
You can run a 1080 on a 500 watt with room to spare

      • thanks for your response, now how do I apply the code? is it after I purchase it for 398 or is there somewhere that I need to apply it first on ebay?

        • It's probably in checkout after you choose shipping address.

        • @Lief1250:

          cool thanks

        • @Lief1250: Yeah its in the checkout, code is live now.

  • And its sold out now.
