Anyone recommend a cheap SD card?

  • Good deal.

I would imagine it's worth spending a bit more on the A119S with GPS though?

    • +2

According to reviews, A119 is better if you drive primarily during day time but in saying that its night time recording isn't too bad. On the other hand, A119S model has lower resolution but has slightly better low-light sensitivity so better results for night driving.

      • That's what I've read too.

I would say provided the carplate numbers during the day are still legible with A119S recordings, then it'd be worth sacrificing a little bit of day time quality for night time quality.

      • Recently bought the A119s, still can't read numberplates at night.

        • If it can't read number plates whilst in motion I suppose that's not surprising, but what about when not moving?

    • It says "with GPS Module" so I'd assume the only real difference is the 1080p vs 1440p sensor.

      • better lens as well.

      • Oh yea I didn't mean it comparatively. I meant the A119S with GPS as opposed to the A119S without GPS.

      • Narrower field of vision and lens cannot be swung sideways

    • based on title this one has gps too. 1440p version does not have the Sony sensor. the Sony ones can only do fullHD. but based on comparison videos, i dislike the Sony sensor ones.

  • Shows up in AUD for me on the zapals site :(

How do you guys route the power cable to the power socket? The sight of that puts me off getting a dashcam.

    • A mate of mine placed his behind his mirror, and ran the cable along the top of the glass, and then down the side, held in place by cable clips. I was actually impressed as how neat it looked

      • Yes that's the easy part. How about when it reaches the dash and you have to connect it to the power socket below the A/C controls or worse in the centre console?

        • +5

You can get a hardwire kit & a fuse double adapter for a few dollars. I ran mine to a power source that was active only when the motor was running (not acc).
With the wiring… on most cars you can slip the wire up under the roof lining trim. The side pillar cover snaps off or can be lifted enough to get the wire under. Invisible installation.. :-)

    • Yes, and how long will it run on the capacitor? I would prefer not to run a power cable also.

      • +5

The capacitor only lasts long enough to shut down the camera cleanly so you don't corrupt the files.

      • +1

        About 1 second

    • +7

I have recently installed dashcams on our RAV 4 and Honda Jazz and acheived a pretty neat installation. On both cars, I pulled the cigrette lighter panel out and daisy-chained the supply using fly wires to power up the adapter. I ran the cable along the top trim of the car near the camera, pushed the cable into the trim itself so it's nice and hidden. Then along the trim near door hinges, then under glovebox and finally through the cigrette lighter panel. Replaced the cogrette lighter panel back, placing the power adapter behind it, so now I have my cigrette lighter outlet also vacant.

      • +2

You can run it to your fuse box inside the car using a hardwire kit. Just need a cheap fuse double adapter.

      • Have you done it on rear side of your RAV4 as well? there is a power outlet at the back as well if I remember. Thinking to get one for the back.

        • No I haven't but that's my next plan. The power outlet in the boot of my RAV4 isn't working, might be blown fuse but yes that would be the best location to get power from for rear dashcam.

    • +4

Mine is not visible. Tucked in top edge along the glass, then under the pillar cover down the side and behind the glovebox. Just the cable end pops out the end and into the cigarette lighter adapter.

Thought about hard wiring, but was neat enough. Does depend on your centre console though, in this case it's open behind so the cable could pass through and be almost out of sight.

"This coupon usage limit has been reached" error

    • You clearly didn't read the description because I just tried and the coupon is still working. Are you logged in?

      • +1

Your right. I had to choose the right shipping method first.

  • +3

    Also 5.5% Cashreward as well

  • Only works on 1 item

  • The images they use are of the V1, hopefully it really is the V2 that arrives.

Also, the shipping options… hmm which is actually the best to pick?

    Hongkong Post
    Registered (7-30 days) $0.00
    Standard (7-45 days) $0.00

    Australia Post
Air Parcel (5-8 business days) $0.00
Air Packet (7-15 business days) No Tracking $0.00

    • What is the difference between v1 and v2? Any issues if they send v1?

      • V1 had issues with the pins connecting the GPS module to the camera.

        See here for photos.
        https://dashcamtalk.com/forum/threads/a119s-v2.28422/#post-3…

There are quite a few people with problems where the camera is cutting out because of the pins not having proper contact.

The issue is that the power cable plugs in to the GPS mount, so some recommendations are to plug the power cable directly to the camera instead but then you'd still have a loose GPS connection.

      • It's a change in the pins that connect the GPS module to the camera, some V1 had bad connection when bouncing around in the car. I think the lens surround also has ridges to accept the optional clip on polariser.

EDIT: Oops, too slow to type :)

    • +2

I'm only seeing one free option

"Registered with tracking (7-30 days) Free"

Have they changed it or is it just me..

  • Cheers, just purchased my first dashcam especially after a very close shave on the weekend.

Don't forget to grab a free gift as well:
    https://www.zapals.com/buy-to-send-gifts.html

  • Assuming it requires a hard wire kit (fuse/battery) for parking mode? Any suggestions?

  • After logging in the currency is showing up as AED for me…So after I add the code and then try to go to paypal to change the currency it gives the following error:
PayPal gateway has rejected request. Currency is not supported (#10605: Transaction refused because of an invalid argument. See additional error messages for details).
    See here for a screenshot:

Can you help me mate? Thanks

    • +1

Did you change the currency to USD from Top Left Hand Corner, as mentioned in the description above? If you follow the description, you should be alright.

Also when you return from PayPal page, choose "Air Parcel (5-8 business days) $0.00" and Complete the Order.

      • Thanks mate got it. Does the code only work for quantity 1? Ie not if I buy 2 of them?

        • +2

Just buy twice if it doesn't work

      • Hi there,
Ok I just ordered twice to get the discount but I just noticed it changed from Australia Post Air Parcel (5-8 business days) to Hongkong Post - Registered (7-30 days) for some reason. Can you please check my orders? 100498710 and 100498698?
Thanks!! Second thing I've ordered from Zapals this month =)

        • Ok, checking with the Rep.

        • @batrarobin: Are you associated with Zapals?

        • @illumination:

          No I'm not.

        • @batrarobin: Ok.

Just thinking if that's the case then munted should check himself with Zapals customer service?

i.e. what does you enquiring on his behalf get him that he won't be able to get himself?

        • +2

          @illumination:

Yeah he probably could and the end result wouldn't be any different but because I have already been talking to the Rep and in fact I approached the Rep to come up with a deal on this item, I thought it'd help resolving it quicker if I msged her directly.

          [@munted]
Here is the Zapals rep in case you wanted to contact her directly. I have already sent her your order number, waiting to hear back: https://www.ozbargain.com.au/user/159732

        • @batrarobin:

thanks, i only had 1 option so have PMed the rep.

        • @batrarobin:
          Yay thanks.

        • +3

          @munted:

Here is the response from the Rep:

Hi, thanks. Please rest assured we will ship with eparcel (5-8 business days) for all the orders to Australia.

        • Same thing happened to me when I ordered a dash cam from them a couple of months back - chose the AusPost option and it switched to Hong Kong Post magically. They were adamant I chose the longer delivery option (why you would is beyond me).

  • Getting this message at checkout : ""This coupon usage limit has been reached""

    • Read the description, are you logged in?

      • Yes i'm logged in

      • +1

my bad, I selected the wrong version. all good! thanks

  • I have the A119s it was really easy to wire into the fuse panel using a piggyback adaptor from Jaycar. The a119s works very well. I think I paid a little more than this for it though.

  • Code usage limit was reached. I just missed out :(

    • Are you logged in? The coupon is still live.

      • Logging out and in again let the coupon work. Thanks.

  • +3

Is it worth an extra $16 for local (AU) warranty and express post from Sydney? I know it's not the OzBargain way, but I have been burnt by experiences with these kind of Chinese sellers before…

    • That is a non-GPS model. The GPS model from the same seller is $35 more expensive : http://www.ebay.com.au/itm/VIOFO-A119-GPS-HD-2K-1440P-Car-Da…?

      • How did u get ur calculation?

        • +1

Edit: sorry my bad, seller's previous listing was $119 but now it's $110.

    • That's the one I'm planning to get since I don't need GPS and a hardware kit is a good bonus. I was lucky to get my hands on the ebay offer from fb so it makes it $90 for me :)

      • GPS and non-GPS models from this seller are same price, so any reason you wouldn't take the GPS model?

        • +1

non-gps model can be easily switched between vehicles because it can detach from the latch which sticks to the car. they give you 3 latches in the box

that said, I got the gps model cos of the extra information it provides

        • I'll have to buy a hardware kit on top of it. I'd rather pay a bit more to get the whole package I need. That said, I still have to buy tools and a sd card, gonna cost around $140 altogether…

  • fyi the 1080p on the G1W-c is clearer than the 1080p or even 1440 on the A119.
i was watching youtube reviews i noticed that the number plates were incredibly hard to read till they got closer, so i did some more research.
this guy did a comparison between the two. https://dashcamtalk.com/forum/threads/disappointed-in-the-a1…

was about to pull the trigger thinking this would be an upgrade over the G1W but this stopped me

    • Yeah i'd agree, but wish the g1w were smaller or abit more discreet.

    • i noticed that the number plates were incredibly hard to read till they got closer,

Why would someone need to read a number plate from afar? We're only interested in the vehicle in front, sides and rear before and after a collision.

      • +1

if someone to say sideswipe you then bolt off it would be hard to see their plates in that situation the g1wc is better the a119 also doesnt capture sharpness well when moving or when the object is moving

  • +2

Ordered 2, thanks for the Group Deal batrarobin and thanks for the Paypal local currency conversion tip, just learn something new, wish i had known this earlier :)
FYI discount only applies to the A119 and not the A119S model
