  • I thought these were dropping to $500 with the camera and game? (Following US drop to $400)

Edit, nope. Google tells me that they started bundling the camera for the AU$500 price but no game.

  • How is the VR experience in general? I've heard the graphics aren't as sharp in VR? Some people seem to love it and others seem to call it out as a bit of a gimmick? Is it better waiting for a 2nd generation version?

Got a Rift a couple of weeks ago. It blew me away.

Everyone I've had over to try it has also been amazed. It was much better than I expected. Yes the resolution isn't great, but the level of immersion is like nothing else, especially with 360 degree room scale tracking and motion controllers.

      • What he said. Also, start out by playing walking adventure games, nothing too hectic. Playroom VR was fantastic as a first experience.

I started RIGS on PSVR last night (a shooter game) and got motion sickness within 30 mins, some slight nausea that would make me throw up if I continued playing. A lot of players on reddit said this was normal and takes time getting used to. Guess I can see the connection of second hand PSVR sets being sold with Resident Evil 7 bundled.

    • VR on the Vive and Rift is very good. Not so much on the PSVR due inferior tracking.

  • Worth getting one of these if I have Rift with 3 sensors?

I'm assuming this isn't as good and almost as expensive.

    • I have a Rift and from my experience with my mates PSVR is the PlayStation headset is a little lower res and in general the graphics and general style a a bit watered down (still good for the cost of a PS4). But the biggest difference for me was the tracking. Nowhere near as accurate. The play area is tiny, sometimes your camera loses you and even worse the Move controllers.

VR is such a gimmick. Wait for these to drop down to below $300 with some actual games incorporating it.

    • +1

Yeah your right, no one is playing games on VR, they're all just trying it on in the lounge without games.

Have you played a game like Robo Recall with 360 degree room scale tracking and tracked motion controllers?

      Nothing gimmicky about it.

I find most people who call it a gimmick haven't actually tried it or have only tried Google cardboard or something similar

a quick search on google will show a multitude of news articles about various companies abandoning VR

        • +1

That doesn't make it a gimmick though.

Where are these articles? Did some Google searches and didn't see anything

        • @chromium: google "abandoning VR"

        • +1

@Sammyboy: I googled "abandoning VR" and got 326,000 results
I also googled "adopting VR" and got 604,000 results :P

        • @aren: Awesome googling skills there. Somehow I think the point has been missed.

        • @Sammyboy:

Already did and didn't really see much.

Something about the Among the Sleep devs canning the VR support because they didn't think the game was suitable for it from 2 years ago and that was about it. Doesn't look like the sky is falling in just yet :)
