  • Any gshock watch with illuminated hands you can recommend?

    • +2

That's very specific, and I don't know if they even do that. Besides Casio aren't known for awesome lume anyway.
You're better of getting a digital G-Shock with EL backlight.

      • The ana Digi g shocks that I have seen have a light at the bottom (6 o clock) and that to me isn't very appealing.

Do the digital g-shocks light up the whole face?

        • +1

Yes I don't know why they still use that old school light. I guess on Ana/Digi models it works to a degree.
If you look for electro-luminescent backlight, then that lights up the whole face.

Also just be aware the more you use the light on a watch, then the sooner you will have to change the battery.

        • The new GA-800 series have double LED, face led and backlight.

I think tge GWG Mudmasters do that as well, but at a cost.

        • @doorknob:
Thanks watchnerd and doorknob. I'll keep an eye out for these.

      • any tips on tritium dial watches except deep blue?

  • +4

Thanks OP for constantly posting watch deals.

What watch are you wearing at the moment?

Also are you able to find us some deals for Orient & Junkers?

These are the two I often see recommended on Reddit.

Just recently getting into watches and don't wanna spend thousands on the higher end yet.

    • +4

I'm wearing my favourite watch - Seiko SKX007
Not aware of any deals on those brands atm.

      • +2

I'll give you $50 for it.

        • +8

          Username checks out.
It's the only watch in my collection that I won't ever sell, so get your own.

        • @WatchNerd:

Really nice watch, how much did you pay?

        • +3

Same price as the link above to my deal post with the $100 eBay voucher.
It doesn't have hand winding or hacking like this Invicta, but the build quality more than makes up for that.

        • +1

          @WatchNerd:

Nice one, like the band too, looks adjustable unlike mine, had to pay a jeweller to remove a couple of links who then scratched it.

Amazon have yours for AUD$270 shipped, would buy it if mine wasn't fixable and I wasn't so attached to it.

        • @WatchNerd:

What are the others in your collection that you would sell?

(not that I need or really should get another watch, in part thanks to your deals ahaha)

      • +3

Great choice! When I am able to, my grail is to buy a SKX013 (the 007's smaller brother).

Waiting for the SKMEI 9120 to be delivered to finally have a dress watch in my small collection so far thanks to you :)

        • +2

Yep. This is the one i've been looking at for a while. I will grab it. One day :P

Currently wearing one of the seiko 5s haha.

        • +1

          @CheapCoffee: Same! Currently rocking a Seiko 5 snk809 and a casio w800h as a beater watch.

I have the skmei in transit. I'd like to also look at tisell in the future as a dress Bauhaus watch too. It's under 39mm, sapphire glass, miyota auto, Korea made and has heat treated blue hands unlike the cheaper Chinese rider/Rodina.

The choices are a bit limited in the budget range for small wristed people I'm afraid. Vintage would be great but I haven't the time to properly research sadly.

        • +1

@fryandlaurie: I must have a look for Tisell watches next time I'm in Korea.

Asian watches are a definite +1 for small wristed watch wearers like us.

        • @CheapCoffee: do keep us updated :)

What Seiko 5 watch are you wearing now by the way?

      • +2

        Thanks for the reply.

Nice watch you have there. :)

      • Simple and classy. Awesome work WatchNerd :)

      • Just ordered a 007 can't wait, looks like a great watch.

        • Where did you buy it from?

      • Any bargains (on sale) similar to the one you are wearing at the moment? cheers

    • +1

      Consider this Orient …

      http://www.ebay.com.au/itm/Genuine-ORIENT-SUN-LIGHT-Sapphire…
      $48.51 - 5% code PINCH5 = $46.08 Free Shipping

      • +1

Well, I was only trying to help … he did ask about Orient watches.

        • +1

          Maybe they're from Reclaim Australia.

    • +1

I bought an Invicta divers with the N35A movement 3 months ago …. was told some are good , some are bad ……. has only lost 1 minute over 2 months ….. maybe I was lucky, but great value watch and wear it now instead of my Omega.

Only downside is the luninesence is weak in the dark.

Although not sapphire, there are no scratches on the glass or cyclops so far ….

If you get one, also order a band pin tool off ebay …. it's less hassle and cheaper than going to a jeweller for band adjustments.

  • +1

Trying to replace my russian diver 4338 band with after market band. May I know what size of band should I buy? I am into those metal, Milanese and sport bands, so I can change them anytime I wish to. Thanks!

    • +3

      Umm, can't you measure it?

      • +1

specs nominate 26mm, just the mechanism i am not so sure, some said it had two pin holes & not many band had that…

        • +1

          Holy crap, that's massive.

        • +1

          @AngryChicken:yes it is haha

  • +3

Thanks WatchNerd, you nerdy timekeeper you.

After over 23 years of impeccable service my Seiko Kinetic needs a new battery.

Took it to Prouds who sent it to Seiko and they wanted to charge $220.

Sent it straight to Seiko myself and for a new battery and pressure test inc. shipping will cost $120.

    Jewellers are such a rip-off.

    • +1

      That's because they're not Jewellers - they're retailers.

      • +3

They call themselves "Prouds The Jewellers" and they employ jewellers, that makes them jewellers.

And jewellers can and do sell things, so I guess most jewellers would also be retailers.

It's like chickens, you can call them chooks, chickens, hens or roosters, they're all really just birds.

        • +1

Yeah ok, jewellers, but they're not the classic watchmaker outfit, and obviously not set up for dealing with watches.
If they were they would have the gear and skill set to change your battery, it seems to me.

        • +1

          @AngryChicken:

For some reason nobody but Seiko can do it.

Took it to 3 different stores and a couple of "jewellers" (ones who actually make things), as well as one of those minute man kiosk things and every one said only Seiko as soon as they saw it.

I bought it in 1994, it originally came with a capacitor and the replacement is a battery now.

No idea why only Seiko can do it.

        • +1

Oh, that sounds a little more complicated … a substitution…

        • +1

          @AngryChicken:

Yeah but I don't think there's anything difficult about it as there's "how to" guides online and it looks like a straight replacement.

I thought any place would be able to do it but seems I was wrong.

Anyway, waiting for it to come back from Seiko, hope the battery lasts as long as the original capacitor but I somehow doubt it.

Really love this watch and it looks much better in real life than in the photo.

In 24 years I've had it it's never missed a beat until now.

        • @Scab:

In 24 years I've had it it's never missed a beat until now

Still a better love story than Twilight

        • might be that it's soldered in, plus not a part they keep due to low demand …. unlike normal batteries people replace every 2-3 years.

        • @Scab:

…hope the battery lasts as long as the original capacitor but I somehow doubt it.

I also very much doubt it, however, and completely by accident, i've already managed to expose my total lack of expertise.

@WatchNerd: Thanks always for your fantastic watch deals. I think you have created a new generation of watch collectors on Ozbargain including myself!

Just to derail from this deal a little bit: I will be in mainland China very soon - are there any particular ones you suggest that I should keep an eye out for that may be harder to acquire in Australia?

  • looks exactly like a sub lol

  • I thought this was a dive computer and got excited. It has sort of a misleading name.

  • I am looking for an auto movement watch to replace my 1980s Citizen Quartz diver as its battery has gone again. A couple of the Amazon reviews suggest this watch is not as waterproof as advertised which is a deal breaker for me as I want to wear it surfing a few times per week.

What do you think about the waterproofness of this watch or any comparable alternatives with a focus on them being 100% waterproof and hardy to a few hundred rinsings in the surf?

  • -1

I have seen some invictas and the finishing doesn't cut it for me. I'll stick to seiko any day.

  • Thanks OP. Are there any deals on the MDV106 Casio?

  • Bought one. Thanks op! Besides trawling through the Watchuseek post (http://forums.watchuseek.com/f71/lets-see-those-invicta-8926…) for mods, is there a site that sells compatible parts shipped to Australia?

      6.The time error of watch
Watch the operation error including static operation (not wear) and dynamic operation error (wear). Static error is watch movement under the normal operation of the error, associated with the quality of the movement itself, are also associated with wear man's activities. Due to different personal activity, the dynamic error of the watch is not the same. But why quartz watch is mechanical watch accurate? This is because the quartz watch the use of high frequency of 32768 Hz, quartz oscillator and ordinary mechanical watch fast swing frequency of 3 Hz, both differ 10000 times. Oscillator frequency is higher, the greater the stability of the oscillation, the stronger anti-interference ability, walk ShiYue accurately, thus quartz watch than mechanical accuracy. In addition, the mechanical watch because of the structure itself, subject to the effect of gravity, in a horizontal position and vertical position offset and produce a poor; Spring from tightening to relax, unbalanced moment, also can affect walking; So mechanical watch when precision is hard to compared with quartz watch.

Apart from the ShiYue reference, i think i'm on the way to understanding that…

        Chinglish.

    • Yet another Chinese watch brand straining to appear European.

    • +1

I can easily justify spending $10-$20 on a watch that isn't waterproof.
But anything more than that i'd expect it to handle not just a rainy day, but surfing Florida storm surges, not that i can surf.

      • How many days now without a watch purchase?

        • +1

          Excellent question!

Now [16] days since i've bought a watch.

That damn watch repair kit is late. I've been meaning to pull these apart, ID the movement, take photos and publish to the world. And i will - you'll see, everyone will see…

          BTW, what's Kim wearing?

        • +1

@AngryChicken: The Dear Leader is probably wearing something his father invented. http://www.dailymail.co.uk/femail/article-2611998/Bizarre-li…

        • @AngryChicken: About 30 days for me. Having bought my wife this http://www.ebay.com.au/itm/Claude-Bernard-for-Ann-Taylor-LOF… I seized an opportunity to get her this variation too http://www.ebay.com.au/itm/Claude-Bernard-for-Ann-Taylor-LOF… but I remain tempted to treat myself. Has your watch repair kit arrived yet?

        • @PJC:

Yet more evidence in support of the 'keeping you on' doctrine.

BTW my days are short only as i'm buying crap - well, Chinese watches with Japanese movements - i do have some standards.

Getting the run around with the kit, so chasing up PayPal, then i'll order another one. Can already open some of them - it's just the screwbacks.

Got a Chinese Super Engineer arrive a few days ago. Holy crap they weigh a metric tonne. It's for the Ecodrive AP4031-03E. Loved the old band but it fell apart - kept getting it wet, and then for a couple of days it was really tight, and then bam the glue came apart.

        • +1

@AngryChicken: That is a shame because the original band suited it perfectly. I suppose you'll get accustomed to the stainless steel one.

  • +1

@WatchNerd I have this watch on the way but since you posted this deal I have replaced the battery on my Citizen diver and am at page 50 of the 8926OB modding thread. I now have a new hobby (obsession) so thanks!

Some might consider that an affliction.

      Hi WatchNerd
