tempted, are these as easy to hack as the old wii?

  • -4

    Not worth the price imo.

Just look at the all time game high scores on metacritic- http://www.metacritic.com/browse/games/score/metascore/all/w…

I turned my nose up at the Wii U Premium Bundle $214 (50%off) on the 26/09/2013 and I don't regret the decision.

      Not worth the price imo.

      Depends on who's using it…

My kids will only play on the Wii U. They're not interested in the games on the other consoles.

    • +16

Over 60 games with scores above 80 and over 20 of them are exclusives. Not to mention backward compatibility with all Wii games and virtual console games from N64, SNES, NES, Mega Drive etc. I'd say you're missing out on plenty of quality gaming time.

    • +1

I had heaps of fun on the Wii U. Sure it was a bit of a missed opportunity, but it has some fantastic titles and arguably a stronger exclusive lineup than MS or Sony as long as you're into Nintendo titles (and if not, I'd pass on the console).

Probably wouldn't suggest it as a sole console, but if you have a PS4 or Xbox One and don't want to fork out for a Switch then it has a good back log. Long term a Switch would be the better buy though and I suspect we'll see a few more Wii U -> Switch ports in time, especially if there's some quiet times ahead.

Who gives a flying fk about metacritic scores. Just play the games you want to play. There are high scoring games that I have no interest in playing because it's simply not to my taste.

Are you not fking capable of deciding for yourself what types of games you want to play? And must let critic scores tell you what games you should play?

      • who buys a console based on meteacritic scores?

    • I wanted to play Breath of the Wild. I could either buy a used Wii U premium (found one for $200 at the time) or a Nintendo switch ($470). You can hopefully understand how this is a bargain, based on the context and what the person might want to use the Wii U for.

  • is the Premium worth the extra?

What do we get for the extra $100 ?

NintendoLand >> Yeah, that's good. But there are other games I can purchase.

Gamepad charging cradle >> Do we need this ? The charger cable from the basic model plugs into the back of the gamepad anyway.

Sensor bar for compatibility with Wii remotes >> I have this already from my Wii console.

32 GB vs. 8 GB internal memory >> Is this needed ? Surely Nintendo will design all system firmware updates to fit within the 8 GB memory of the basic model. For extra storage space, I can add on a 2 TB external HDD for $88, or a 32 GB USB stick for $20.

Black coloured console >> I'm not fussed with the colour. Besides, a white coloured Wii U will match our existing Wii.

FYI they stopped including Nintendo land ages ago, and in addition, EB never did.

It's a shit game anyway, but still.

        • Hm? You probably got scammed by your local eb. Mine came with Nintendo land.

        • @Letrico: Bought mine years ago new from a different shop.

Lucky you, because outside of the original year or so worth of new premium consoles, the game hasn't been bundled since.

      • Really depends if you want to play Smash Brothers as it won't work on the non-pro wii without additional storage being tacked on.

        • You can always smash your brothers… mostly younger one ~~

        • lol wtf?
I have the basic version and smash 4 plays fine (I have the disc).
Can also plug in any old USB hard drive or flash drive and format on the WiiU for additional storage (downloadable content, etc)

        • @idonotknowwhy:

Might have just been specific to patch 1.14. The update itself was larger than 8gb. Here's a link, there are plenty available: https://aotf.com/news/8gb-wii-u-owners-having-trouble-instal…

A USB hard drive is additional storage which I referred to in my original comment, and requires a few extra dollars, and a little bit of time to format. A lot of people out there are are fans of out of the box functionality and are happy to pay $15 for it.

$37 difference now, was always $100 difference when new… Sounds like it might be worth it now

      • +2

I really like the drop in cradle for charging vs laying the tablet around and finding/plugging in a cable. Its just drop and walk away … almost as nifty as wireless charging.

      • +2

$27, which for me is worth it just not have a blaring white object in my otherwise all black TV cabinet, let alone the wiibar, storage and charge cradle.

  • Premium ain't worth it, but at 160 (including postage) the Wii U can still offer a fair bit of fun.

Plus that sweet sweet GameCube emulation in HD.

  • -7

Just emulate on PC. It doesn't require much of a high end rig.

Translation: "Just steal things- It's easy"

      • -2

This may come as a surprise but people in that situation wouldn't usually go out and steal anything, they would make a copy of it using the internet.

        • +3

          You wouldn't download a car…

        • +1

Hey man, can I make a copy of your credit card and drivers license real quick?

        • +1

          @montorola: But I would if I could :)

        • +1

@montorola: You wouldn't shoot a policeman, and then steal his helmet

        • You understand that 'making a copy' using the Internet for something you don't own is still theft right? Whether it's stored on an optical disc or hard drive, if you take the product without paying for it you're still stealing. Different packaging and storage of a product doesn't magically make it free because you say so.

        • @mr_me450: To be fair, they only mentioned emulating the Wiiu, they never said they wouldn't use proper game disks and the eShop.

While it is very unlikely, they may have been referring to making a copy of the console, and not the games. At this point in time, I doubt Nintendo is making anything from Wiiu console sales, as they've been dropping support for it left and right.

    • Unlike the others, I'm not so concerned about the piracy aspect of doing this, but I still won't do it simply because I wouldn't find it as enjoyable without proper controller support, and please correct me if I'm wrong, but last I checked the wiiu gamepad couldn't be used with wiiu emulators on PC.

Really think the word "refurbished" is a little misleading when it comes to EB Games. Wouldn't these just be second hand consoles that have been barely cleaned or tested?

    • +2

      Pretty much

    • +3

Pretty sure they just wipe them down with KFC refresher towels.

  • +2

LOL, what I paid for my Wii U new… 3 years ago.

  • +1

It's $198 for the premium Wii U console if you buy it in store. Cost a little bit extra but at least you get to inspect the unit yourself.

Bought one from EB Games Liverpool, unit was almost brand new. Time for some Mario Galaxy 1 & 2.

  • +1

Looks like its all sold out now.

  • All 47 premiums online SOLD OUT on ebay.. not sure if that means there's any on website..

  • +1

  • There are still 8 premiums available online. Use PINCH5 to get 5% off making it $193.05 delivered.
