  • Tossing up the Hero 5 Black vs the Xiaomi Mi 2 4k Action for me season in Japan. Got to hold off another week or so to be within the 60 days to get my tax back anyway, hope I can still pick the Hero 5 Black up at this price if if I end up choosing it

    • Where you looking to buy the Xiaomi Mi 2 4k Action locally, and how much ?
      Cheers

Have only really found them from Ebay sellers for about $310 for the international version (less 10% at the moment), then you would need to buy the underwater housing for about $40, so say $320 all together.

I'm leaning towards the Gopro 5 Black if it is only $90 difference

    • When intending to claim the TRS refund, do you have to do anything special at purchase time?

P.S. I know I have to fill a form out online, and present the barcode and goods when at the airport.

      • +2

Haven't ever done it myself either, I think you just need to make sure you get a tax invoice with the sellers ABN on it.

        • +1

And make sure it stays out of the country. Don't bring it back in.

        • @maxwellian:

I've just read the govt website for TRS, says you can bring it back, but it counts as part of your $900 duty-free allowance.

      • +1

As long as it's not over $1000, then no need to do anything.
If it is, it needs to have your name on the invoice.

Also, make sure you download the app beforehand and input all the details in. Much quicker.

Oh and as Maxwellian said, 'don't bring it back in'

      • +1

Make sure the invoice has Australian ABN and they have specified GST amount. I am assuming TRS is only refunding the GST amount. Please correct me if this assumption is wrong.

If it is over $1000, the purchaser name need to appear on invoice and it needs to match your name. Having both individual name and company name on the invoice will be rejected by TRS. I am not sure if University name is okay.
