      • No its not. The comments are closed but the deal links are the same as yours.

        • What's the point of your comment? I never would've stumbled across that deal from last year

          Thanks OP

  • I thought they sell G18 for $99 all the time…

    • They do…

  • Top drop and a great price

Great price, but not sure how I feel about price beating Nicks given they are an independent. I'd rather support the little guy who goes to the effort of good prices. If Nicks can do it, Dan's don't have an excuse not to either

    • +1

      Exactly.
The bigger Nicks gets, the greater the buying power.
This leads to cheaper prices and better chance at exclusives that Dans CBF'd sourcing.

      • The exclusives are the best part of Nicks. I've got a bottle of Diplomatico Liqueur that they sourced for me and a mate, and I know people who have had obscure requests chased down as well

    • +1

Nowadays I buy my whisky(s) from SMWhisky, some price is cheapest out there.

Order over $100 free delivery, if you buy few bottles you can ask for bulk purchase discount, which they normally give you 8% for it.

Some price is better than Nicks and the bottle shops out there.

    • Your morals have no place on this website. Good day to you sir!

Bold comment saying to try price match at Dans to. People get their knickers in a knot about that on Ozbargain. Everyone is all for price matching everywhere else like officeworks, bunnings etc. Infact most places do it these days but as soon as Dans does (and they even actively do it themelves) then people start to get morals.

Dans price matching is not going to stop other places running sales and its not going to affect buying power. Alcohol shops make killing yet they apparently will suffer from price matching.

    • Sweet, I'm getting into the alcohol shops business since they make a killing.
      Sounds all too easy :)

Somehow I think you're talking outta your arse there mate, particularly considering tax alone on purchases of alcohol!

      • -1

Go ahead seeing as though you sound like a smart guy. Lots of businesses make money, you going to open any of those too retard?

So by your 'non talking out your arse' logic, there is no money in alcohol because of taxes. The taxes are added to the price of the alcohol which we pay, they dont, so no taxes dont affect them but if you think they are going bust because of that then you think that. So they can knock $10, $20, $30 etc off alcohol regularly and still make a profit yet they must be doing bad…..good one…

        • What is it that you do for a living?
Do you have experience/knowledge direct in the alcohol industry?

I don't work in the industry, yet have talked to retailers, wholesalers and importers, so whilst not an expert, I've some understanding.
For example, when hunting down spirytus, I learned about the rate of tax importers are charged and how that rate automatically increases twice a year.
When assisting a friend who was travelling overseas and desired to return with more than the duty free rate, I gained knowledge in the rates the public are charged for alcohol content, gst etc.
There's more than it sounds you're aware of to the alcohol industry.
I'd suggest you research it yourself, yet what's the point of suggesting as such to someone that carries the attitude that they're omniscient?

        • @086:
'face palm' sure thing. Well if its such a crippling industry then they shouldnt have gone into the alcohol business in the first place. You make a 2yo comment that because there is a money in a business then your going to open one yet you say they are doing it tough and stick up for them for having a business in an apparantly tough world lol contradict much? Big corporations come along in ALL fields of commerce.

Your on a bargain website no? why dont you take your big words used to make it look like your an expert elsewhere. Clearly you shouldnt be supporting bargains and buying power when there is some business somewhere doing it tough because of it. Surely you see the stupidity of being on a bargain website when you cant sleep at night because independent places are doing it tough because big consumers are able to offer cheaper prices to the people of Australia whos costs for bills, rates, taxes, etc are continually rising…hope you dont shop at Aldi, sheesh.

I suggest you go grab some anxiety meds as Amazon is coming soon and i can see you breaking down when you talk to all your retailers, wholesalers and importers. Me i will continue to search for a bargain, thats why Ozbargain exists, maybe delete your account and go pay full price to keep your conscious clear…lol

  • Surely if you don't want to pay for delivery and don't live near near Doncaster, then price matching at DMs would be the way to go. Otherwise, might as well just buy it from Nicks. Simples.

This might help you - https://www.ibisworld.com.au/industry-trends/market-research…

Happy to see your research that liquor shops are doing it tough…

    • +2

Well, given your report has the total revenue for the Australian liquor industry at $11bn, and Woolworths liquor revenue alone for the last FY was $7.5b, I'd say that the independents are very much doing it tough. The number of truly independent outlets that are still alive and well is surprisingly small, as there are actually a large number that are owned by the big 2. It is easy to read a report that says the liquor industry is thriving and profits are on the increase, but if it is essentially a duopoly then nobody benefits in the long-run.

      • -1

'I'd say that the independents are very much doing it tough'

no research to back that up at all? pretty sure the left over 4.5bill is more than enough to cover others. Everyone looks for a bargain so if independents cant provide it then they will get left behind. I for one am not going to go to a drive through bottle o and pay more than i can elsewhere just because i feel sorry for them.

Bunnings, Officeworks, Ikea, Amazon coming, Online shopping etc all come in and someones business suffers. Been happening for years so why do people suddenly get a burst of morale when it comes to alcohol. And these people are on a bargain website showing that they are bargain hunting not showing that they would rather see local Joe earn his money lol

        • +2

I actually do research this area as pay of what I do for a job, and your ibis link appears to either be out of date or just plain wrong, and unless you have access to the full report there are a lot of assumptions being made on your part. Wesfarmers liquor revenue is $24.6b year to date (for example).

I'm not trying to argue with your point that the overall liquor market is doing well, just that there are 2 very strong players that tend to dictate how the market works. Large warehouse-style outlets can afford to exist on the bulk turnover and (comparatively) low rents, whereas suburban stores pay rents that are at least 2-3x the square metre rates with less effective overall floor space.

And finally, I'm not saying that people should always shop at independent stores; hell, I shop at First Choice/Dan Murphys all the time for my booze. But I'm also aware that by ignoring suburban bottle shops entirely, eventually they will go out of business and then we'll all be left with minimal choice of where to go.

        • @ebosh:
          Mate, just walk away.
worthy1 just wants to argue …

        • @086: Ha, thanks. I figured as much, but you never know ;)
