LOL, I was just about to post this. I've been uhm-ing and ahm-ing on getting this when it was 5% off the ebay kogan price the last time but couldn't resist it anymore and decided to finally pull the trigger :). Too cheap to let it pass for my first 4k tv - already got three FHD TVs at home, hahaha. This should tide me over until the OLED TVs become more mainstream and cheaper :).

Don't forget cashrewards for additional 1.3%.

  • Legit do I pull the trigger now or keep waiting, tempting!

I'm currently using my 10+ year old Panasonic 32" with my PS4. It's great, no lag etc. But $560 for a 55" sounds great…Any thoughts on this to be used as a gaming TV?

Awesome tv. Here's my response from the other thread. People talk a lot of BS about these without any experience.

Just got mine, it's freaking awesome.

It has HDMI-CEC and SPDIF pass through.
The controller feels really nice, and the UI is super responsive, in fact response is nearly instantaneous
When I power it off, my Kodi box turns off. Powering the TV turns the box on.
The remote even controls my Kodi box.
    Picture quality is awesome
    4k looks awesome at 60hz
An absolute steal for the price. I thought the curve would be a gimmick but it looks really nice, and I guess it does add to the 'immersion'

Also. The manual states M6x10mm vesa mount screws. They were far too short. I used M6x25mm

    • What's the boot time like? I read that it was like 15 seconds?

      • About 15-20 seconds. I'll time it tonight.

        • That seems like a long time? I don't have a smart TV at the moment though so I can't compare apples to apples.

        • @SwarleyAUS: This isn't a smart TV.

        • @Protato:
True, my current (circa 2008) Samsung only takes maybe 5 seconds to start but it's more 'dumb' than this one though (no PVR/4k etc). Basically what I'm asking is whether 15-20 seconds the new norm for TV boot times?

        • +1

@SwarleyAUS: My Aldi 65in has a boot time of around 15-20 seconds for the sake of comparison. Not sure how long 'name brand' tvs take though. My Sony 40in from around 2009 had a boot time of like 5 seconds too.

      • How often do you turn your TV off and on, to make boot times matter? I thought changing channels would be more important for a FTA TV, but if you're using it for other purposes, for the price I don't see why boot times would matter at all.

        • Once a day… which if 15 seconds longer than my current TV equates to 90 extra minutes of sitting there not watching TV per year. Haha nah I only ask because it's an easy to compare metric. The answer to how fast a TV is, ie changing channels, opening apps, etc is a bit more subjective.

    • Do you have a gaming console connected to it by any chance?

      • My PS4 is, though I haven't used it yet. Anything you want me to evaluate?

        • +1

If you get a chance, I just want to know if there is any lag. I'm sorry I don't know the terminology. A friend has his PS4 connected to a large Samsung LCD/LED (not sure) and it wasn't as smooth as I would have liked.

          Thanks in advance!

          @tolliwood:

Has he turned Game Mode on?

        • +1

@tolliwood: Just played Fallout 4 and Rocket League, no lag. Also, TV boots in 15 seconds.

    • Chroma 4:4:4? Is your ps4 pro model? If so can you get 2160p rgb on this tv?

      • Doubt you'd get that in a TV so cheap?

        • This one has HDCP 2.2 supported, which means 2160p can be enabled on this TV for PS4 Pro. Just don't think you can use HDR, though.

    • Thanks for the review

  • Thanks OP, been 8 weeks without a TV since the Panasonic 55 released smoke. Waiting for a bargain to come around, and I can now fill the hole.

  • Nice price. Waiting on a good price for 65/70/75 inch'er (sit far from the tv) to replace a 6 year old 'Alure' lcd

  • Well done OP

  • What's the different between this one and the non curved 55 inch tv's other than it being curved ?

    • depends on which model and which TV you are comparing. There are thousands of options

  • hmmmm really considering this. Was gonna get the soniq 42 inch from Jb thats 299 but for this price it looks like a really good deal. I have heard really bad reviews about kogan tvs though

  • now showing out of stock :(

  • Doh , any other similar tv's on sale that are of comparable quality ?

  • Costco-Marsden Park has a Sony Bravia 65" led, 100Hz, 4k HDR UHD TV for $500 off in the opening sale till 10th Sept. I cannot find any other information about the model and price on the ad. Does anyone know more details?

    • +2

As I keep telling my wife, $500 off is not a price.

  • +1

Damn.. was sitting on this for a few days. Went to purchase just as stock finally ran out. Lesson learned.

Do deals like this come up often - this seemed incredible..

    • I did the exact same thing, have been sitting here with the most upset look on my face since lol :(

    • Man this deal has been around for a few days? If I had known that would have pulled the trigger.

      • +1

Has been on their ebay store at $619.96 for a little over a week - was on their website approx a fortnight ago for $599 delivered (is $699 now) - as far as I recall this is the cheapest it had ever been (and I've been watching it for a very tragic amount of time)

        • Well, damn. Here we are then. Let's see if another opportunity presents itself.

        • @allactionnoplot: I baulked - managed to pickup one through Dick Smith's page via auction - $593 delivered. My heart hurts that I paid $36 more than I had to! Not the bargain as posted but just thought it was worth mentioning if you wanted to keep your eye out :(

        • @jackary: Don't feel too bad - at least you got one. Mine arrived yesterday. I paid 589 delivered with the PINCH5 code.

        • @freesteakknives: Haha thankyou for offering me some kind of validation! I was a little worried my OzB card would be revoked.

Just out of curiosity, what do you think of it so far?

        • @jackary: I'm changing from a Panasonic plasma and I'm very impressed with the picture quality of the Kogan. OK, the blacks as not as black and skin tones not as life like but for the money I think it's pretty good. No bluring. The sound is not outstanding but it's better than the reviews would lead you to believe. I've already got the wall bracket and I'll grab a Kogan soundbar. I've seen a few people on other postings complain about the Kogan picture quality but maybe they are fogetting how much they've paid. Overall I'm a happy purchaser.

        • @freesteakknives: I'm happy to hear! Am coming from a Samsung plasma myself so was a little concerned about taking a step down regarding picture quality. I don't have the expectation of blacks like my plasma but am very glad to hear you don't regret your purchase.

Have a home theatre setup where it's going to go so not hugely worried about sound quality, seems to be pretty par for the course in cheaper TVs anyway :)

        • @jackary: Other thing that I've now noticed is that if you are not in the viewing angle the picture is washed out. This seems to be an LED/LCD thing, not a Kogan thing. This only became apparent when I was watching the TV while standing in front of the heater. :-). When you get yours please post your comments - be interesting to hear your thoughts. I ordered mine on a Sunday and received on Thursday.

        • @freesteakknives: Can't argue with that! To be honest I'm rather surprised how quickly it's expected to arrive -

Scanned in at Toll depot in Sydney 3pm Friday (I ordered/paid at 8.30pm Thursday) - ETA is Tuesday this week.

Will definitely be back with a bit of a mini-review when I get mine, hopefully it will be helpful for someone else - I found it eternally frustrating how hard it was to find any specs on the TV, thus the very belated plunge…

        • @jackary:

          I ordered 11am on Thursday and I haven't got a shipping confirmation yet :(.

        • @docpol: Oh no! That sucks :(
I ordered mine at auction from the Dick Smith store because I missed out on this deal.. maybe thats something to do with it?

        • @jackary:

Ah, that's probably why. Well they can't claim that it's out of stock since they're still selling this at the Kogan sensor and also back now in ebay but at a much higher price ($930!).

        • +1

@docpol:Toll are quite hopeless with their shipping info. Received an email Thursday morning at 9:30am to say that it was being delivered on Thursday. Was on the way to work so went back home. Nothing by 4:30pm. Toll mobile site still says delivery Thursday, toll desktop site says ETA Friday. Called Toll who advised delivery still on the way for delivery Thursday. Turns up at around 5:30pm. Had a much better experience with Kogan deliving by Australia Post. Delivery ETA notification via SMS and email 2 days prior to delivery so you could arrange for someone to be at home.

        • @freesteakknives:

          Thanks for the heads-up!

  • if the room is not completely dark (no windows, lights) these screens are fine.
But when you have light, curved screens grab any reflection and makes it annoying to watch.

    • Do you mean if the room is completely dark?

I recently saw a big curved Panasonic in someones house with a window to the right with sun streaming in, didn't seem to be heavy with the glare at all.

      • Maybe this is just me but I've found it varies greatly between brands - a friend has a 65" curved Samsung which I think is the bees knees, whereas another friend has a curved TCL of a similar size and I find it awfully glary - perhaps it has something to do with some kind of anti-reflective top layer?

      • yes! haha my bad, it's when there is light (not enough coffee in the day!)

and yes, seems to be brand dependant, but even with a flat screen, it is annoying with glare.
