Garmin Vivosmart HR+ - Amart Sports $229

30

Garmin fitness band, with wrist based 24 hour HR monitoring, and, making it actually useful, GPS, so you can use it as a running and, albeit limited, cycling watch.

Review here: https://www.dcrainmaker.com/2016/05/garmin-vivosmart-hr-now-…

I found a shop display unit at Amart Sports in the Brisbane CBD for $199, not sure as to field stocks but are available online. I have an original model Vivoactive (the actual watch) and looked at the Vivoactive HR and found the LED HR unit to be uncomfortable, but I've had this on pretty much constantly for the last 30 hours or so and it's fine.

Pricing window seems to be $240 - $320. Garmin list it at $349 (https://buy.garmin.com/en-AU/AU/p/548743)

My Vivosmart HR+ usually needs 5 minutes or more to get GPS information. Which is useless to me.
HR tracking is also useless with its incorrect reads.
Another cons is it doesn't allow setting for multiple alarms - I just want to set one to wake me up, and another to remind me of taking the pills, but it can't.

    • I've been a bit sceptical of the wrist-based HR monitoring. I've only had a bit of a dabble - looked to track well on the bike, but it wasn't great when running. I'm a little hairy which probably doesn't help. It's never going to be as good as a strap, alas.

My initial GPS pick up was a bit slow, but subsequent start-ups have been fine.

    Excellent price good find.

The Garmin VivoActive 3 should be released before Xmas- will be curious to see what sort of reviews it gets…
