Good time of the year to check out the monuments.
First class train travel down the Nile is cheap too.

The only comment here from someone not scared of their own shadow

Every other comment is doom gloom and fear of things they don't know

      • Or maybe some of us have legitimate criticisms of knuckle dragging regimes like the Saudis.

        • +4

And you've spent time there and flown with Saudi Air?

I can assure you there are MUCH worse airlines out there to trust your life with. I've flown with and trained Saudi pilots, I have also trained pilots for China Southern. I would trust Saudi more from what I have seen.

Saudi isn't my favourite country, but it isn't any more unsafe than walking around at night in Australian cities.

        • @slipperypete: he wasn't talking about training or the quality of the airline. He was talking about the regime and not wanting to support it.

        • @cnut:

          His comment posted earlier

Normally flying with AirAsia long haul would be the main issue with such a fare…but flying with Saudi is far worse. Bringing the middle ages into a 21st century flying machine.

He was talking about the airline

          @slipperypete: Gotcha. 👍

Yet I'm sure no complaints about purchasing their petroleum?!

        • @cnut:
I can understand you not wanting to support it. However it's a bit of a pressure cooker. If the government breaks down too much it may be a tipping point for the whole middle east….and I'm sure the rest of the world will get dragged in as well.

        • +1

@slipperypete: It'll happen eventually. Since you know, oil will run out and they'd just be left with a desert.

do they let you sit with the wife or are they considered checkin baggage still with Saudi Air?

      • +3

Children fly free, so it won't cost them anything to bring the wife.

    • Did you have a bad experience flying with them?

Is kidnapping for free once you get there?

This deal might literally cost you an arm and a leg lol

    'Return' flight? That's optimistic init?

    • I was gonna use this joke :D

    • +1

I returned from Egypt in January. I went for 10 days and it was so safe. Attacks are having all over the world. Whilst I was there, nothing happened.

  • +2

I'm still scared after recent mid-air explosion of the russian plane over Egypt
    https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Metrojet_Flight_9268
Not sure if security in Egyptian airports is good enough

    • +4

I'm still scared after hearing someone got killed in a car crash last year….never leave my house now

      • +1

True, but looking at what is happening at the middle East right now, the chances of some sort of terrorist attack are at all times high.

        • +4

Chances are a lot higher in europe

        • +1

Yeah true but it is still comparative. If you look at tourist death toll due to extremism, it is still less than the tourist daily toll in tourist hotspots like Thailand. You would have more chance dying whilst attending a full moon party than you would getting involved in a terror attack.

We tend to get sucked up in the media hysterics. Things really aren't that bad.

    • +2

You'll be fine, it's $25 now to go around security checks at the airport instead of $10 before, terrorists can't afford it.

Good time of year to go to Egypt. We went in Feb a couple of years ago and the weather is perfect. Jealous of this price.

    • Yeah, I went in January this year! It was amazing!

    Egypt Return

    You ain't coming back.

    • +4

I went in January and I came back. It was actually very safe.

        lol… Nice troll…

        • +3

          I'm not trolling…

        • +2

          @sagitox:
You are trying to convince people who think drinking full fat milk is a high risk activity

Yea it's an amazing country, been there several times. Glad you enjoyed it, I know women can get hassled their though

        • +1

@slipperypete: True. I guess some people will never get to experience such a beautiful country because of fear. Sad.

I was fine, I'm pretty small height wise, but I guess I look like you shouldn't mess with me? Anyway was with tour group with a mix of males and females, majority of us were Aussies!

        • @sagitox:

It's not like busloads of tourists haven't been killed, there's no political instability and that the government's advisory website doesn't suggest you don't go there.

But hey, someone on Ozbargain says it's perfectly safe.

      • You mean, you felt it was very safe. Your subjective perception has nothing to do with it objectively being unsafe…

I'll choose "places I'd like to go to, but would never take my family to' for $200 Alex.

  • +5

Look it was good to see Ancient Egypt but it isn't a place I'd go back to. I went before the Arab Spring and it was already not exactly a nice place to visit. As a single female fully clothed (as it was winter) the constant harassment and yelling was very very tiring. Being asked for 'baksheesh' all the time for everything was also crap. The standards for everything is quite poor so don't expect much.

    • +1

At least the hepatitis in the drinking water is free !!!

  • +6

I wouldn't go to Egypt if they paid me that.

  • The flight is cheap for Egypt but only because flights to the Middle East are generally over-priced. Even from Europe.

At that time of year you can fly on fancy airlines to much more distant (and cold) London for a bit more with checked baggage and food.

BTW, you can still fly to Ho Chi Minh from Sydney for $305 return with the Jetstar Spring Sale.

  • +10

Who'd want to go to Egypt??. It's mostly desert, you can't understand what people are saying, every meal is basically meat, in summer it is ridiculously hot, there are billions of flies and they don't recognize gay marriage….wait…I'm thinking of Australia.

  • +2

Marsa Alam (south Egypt) has some nice diving places/resorts! Airport operated by France 🇫🇷

But in March the weather/water will be like October in Sydney

Might be good time for a Nile cruise

    Or Luxor ancient city

Everywhere in Egypt five star hotels are some of the cheapest in the world

  • I bet you still get more TV channels in your hotel room in Egypt than you do in Australia.

    • You almost definitely would. You can probably pick up channels from all over Europe and the Middle East.

  • +2

If it is on your bucket list, go! I went by myself (a 30 year old female) but met up with a tour group this past January. I loved it! It was my long life dream! It is actually very safe! And it was amazing!

I also went in January which meant it wasn't too hot (mid 20s).

  • I flew with Emirates and Qatar, not sure about Saudi Air and Air Asia. But I'm sure they would be fine.

  • I came to read any reviews or real experiences on Saudi Air but seems like no ones actually flown with them.
