Hey folks
Just noticed every single torrent site has been blocked by our beloved ISP's in Australia. Is there any new torrent sites that are not blocked that you know about?

  • Not an expert in this space, but why do people download torrents when there are free streaming sites that are pretty good and up to date?

    • Is streaming content you've not paid for legal?

    • Free streams tend to be compressed to save space resulting in lesser picture quality compared to torrents. Not always the case but you know what you're getting when you download a torrent from a known scene group.

IT'S NOT JUST TORRENT SITES, ITS STREAMING SITES NOW TOO!!!

  • +1

You can google 'game of thrones s07e0#' followed by 'Reddit'. They have direct downloads usually through Mega.nz. Works for Rick and Morty. No need for torrents and no way in hell they are gonna block Reddit in Australia.

    • Thanks, surprised to see the blocks actually working usually my getflix VPN always worked. Might have to invest in a proper VPN.

  • I only use KODI, do I need to change proxy as well? Or this ban is only applicable for torrent sites?

  • +1

Lots of people suggest PIA as a VPN. I use a European VPN as I don't trust the US ones due to the reach of their legal system - could be a honeypot run by the FBI, or there might be a sealed court order for them to track customers.

Sounds paranoid, but I prefer the safety of the European laws in this space.

  • I paid for foxtel now to find out how shit 720p GoT is on a 4k television yay… back to torrents it is

    • That will get you 1080p which is still only 1/4 of your 4K resolution.

Agreed that 720p sucks in 2017 though. For a paid service at that.

      • I know but 1080 upscaled is actually very good dependong on your tv! On the other hand…720p is like watching free to air..

    • Does VPN bypass an ISP block? Because that content still goes through your ISP in the end, right? Or does the VPN encrypt it all?

The isps arent blocking torrent sites, they are just blocking the dns portion. You can still access the torrent site providing you know the ip address. THe simple solution as others have said is simply dont use your isps dns and switch to another dns server who hasnt blocked said torrent sites.

  • +1

wooaaah they really are all down.

this is where i need someone to speak to me like a baby cos I have no idea what a DNS is..or anything -_-

    • +2

dns is the service that translates a name into the ip address.

      eg

      google.com

is just a nice human form of some ip address (numbers 1.2.3.4 etc).

What has happened is ISPS are now making all look ups for certain "host names" not work… eg big bad pirate site.com might live at 4.5.6.7 but your isp now blocks it to some other webserver, which basically means its gone for everyone. All that is required is that you know the real ip for big bad pirate site, and since most people dont remember these things all you need to do is use another dns server not controlled by your isp or in australia like google's dns (8.8.8.8) etc.

    • Whoos a good baby. You are. Yes you are. A goo goo. A goo goo gabby. Heeeeey ! Peeek a boooo !

  • I am happy using Torguard for years. I have two dedicated IPs, one US and a second UK to watch different Netflix databases. I also access Amazon Prime Video US, and doing so you can pay extra for the HBO channel if you like (I don't watch GOT).
I recently bought a two-year subscription and the two additional IPs for two years as well so I don't have to worry about that for some time.
They gave me a torrent server as an option. I have the setting on my torrent software but I haven't downloaded anything in the last months as I have a lot to watch on Netflix US, UK and Amazon Prime Video US.

Also, I use the DNS from the list https://www.lifewire.com/free-and-public-dns-servers-2626062

I can't help but think that the Golden Days of Piracy are well and truly behind us.

    • +1

My golden days of piracy were when I found out about copying amiga games.

      • +1

A friend knew a guy who was basically an Amiga Pirate courier. He'd do interstate road trips with boxes full of disks, dropping by people's houses. You let him copy a game he didn't have, and you could copy as much as you want off him. Share and share alike. Good times for a poor kid.

But there aren't many Amigas around now. Must have been piracy that killed it ;)

  • Yep, they got us.That DNS torrent blocking is working.

    I use the Opera browser.

    www.opera.com

Once installed, under the main 'Menu' go to 'Settings' > then under the 'Privacy & security' menu there is a VPN setting where you can enable it by ticking a checkbox. That will give you access to torrent sites blocked by your ISP. It's not an actual VPN though, it only works within Opera, so your actual torrent downloading activities can still by traced back to you.

    Noobs use torrents. Pros usenet.

Get Leechdrive seedbox, for $36USD per year you get 100gb seedbox with openvpn. You can use openvpn to browse torrent add them to seedbox and download through IDM or filezilla. Enjoy the maximum speed..

    • Agreed and also means you are not D/L or U/L original files direct from your PC. In turn no potential for any warnings from your ISP. Let the seedbox do this for you. You can just grab the file direct from your seedbox using https via a proxy server if you dont want to use local ones. If worried about the original file name, just zip it first on seedbox giving it a different name and the grab using FDM. If paranoid then double zip the original file and set a password on the second zip.

  • Jump on google and put in 'game of thrones episode 7 season 7 reddit' there will be streaming links. all of the torrent links are closed down.

  • Since we're on the topic of torrent…with the whole nbn coming, i've trust tpg for 7 years without any issues with torrent. How's Optus with their torrents?

  • For Chrome : Touch VPN or ZenMate or Gom VPN or Betternet or Browsec

For Firefox : Browsec or Hoxx VPN Proxy or Hola or ZenMate

  • have heard from a few people that foxtel says one deal when you sign up, but then changes their tune completely later on, saying that deal is no longer valid, or the price has now gone up by x amount. they had a monopoly for too long and are now struggling with all the actual competition out there.

  • +2

This proxy is quite useful. It has an option to disable ads and pesky popups as well:

    http://unblocked.lol/

    • Thank you.

    • Or simply use the Google mod mentioned earler.

  • You are all breaking the first three rules of fight club and are thus expelled

  • Use the free Windscribe VPN listed earlier on this site, then they work just fine.

  • Sorry, what was your name again?

  • 2013 me is shattered by this.

  • You can buy GOT season 7 on Google play for $20. It's in great quality.

    • A great option now that Foxtel's exclusivity for this season has ended

But not so good during the 7 weeks it airs. Friends, co-workers, people on train, social media. It's impossible to avoid spoilers.

      • -2

Srs ? Ive never watched an episode. Didnt even know who little finger was when I heard they killed him off.

        • SPOILERS!!

Err, I just accessed the Pirate Bay and Extratorrent sites with no problem, no VPN.

Torrenting is impossible to stop - although I rarely use it now.

This article should be linked in the OP.
It may mean ur ISP have yet to block it

      • +1

There are plenty of mirror sites

        Torrenting cannot be stopped.

        • -1

The mirrors are archives. I.e not upto date. Piratebay.to is from 2014

        • @Wallyt99:

Well I just downloaded Preacher S02E11 with no VPN, no problem

          It can't be stopped

  • I highly recommend Ivacy for your VPN. They are having a buy one year get another one free sale.

  • I'd recommend a program called popcorntime.sh which streams torrents via it's inbuilt player. Simple to use and has a large catalogue of the latest movies/series (including GOT!).

Surprised people haven't mentioned a debrid service with a torrent function. It allows you to download from all those warez sites at unristricted speeds and also allows you to add a torren to their servers and download it at full speed from them back ala seed box. I also like how if someone added that very torrent, you don't need towait for them to download it.

Also a hacked version of terrarium tv with the ads removed can be used on the android tv and the icons their on the startscreen (no need to mess with launchers or forwarders) also has a crap ton of sources like kodi

  • I'm willing to buy a invite if someone has one and if it isnt blocked. I just cant really be bothered using a VPN.

  • they block the DNS, just change the settings of your router to use Google DNS:
    8.8.8.8
    8.8.4.4

  • It's not just the torrent sites guys, it's onto stream sites too. Check http://www.watchfree.to

    • blocked a while ago!!!

  • I am using the combination of tor and bitportio to torrent the hell out of media. Tor makes the ip to appear as something outside australia. Bitport downloads my media to the cloud. From the cloud i can do whatever i like stream, download, etc. Total cost around 10$ per month

  • Some ISP's don't block torrent sites as they haven't been asked to by the government (yet). I'm sure this will change in the future though.

  • Pirate bay still going strong!

  • Got a phone call from my mate Monday night.
Simply use a webproxy site enter the URL get the magnet link.

    Done.

  • VPN.

Yesterday I tried to open Putlocker because someone had mentioned a movie to me and it said that access was blocked. I tried Tor Browser and it worked like a dream, not even slow.
At the end of the day the order to block access to these sites was useless because it is really simple to circumvent it.

  • Since kickasstorrents has been blocked: http://www.videoconverterfactory.com/tips/kickasstorrents.ht…
It's hard to find a tool that allows me to download videos I like.
