Burwood (NSW) Council - Free Child Restraint Check

130

Keeping our children safe is a priority for Burwood Council. Through a partnership with the Roads and Maritime Services (RMS), Burwood Council is able to offer free child restraint check and installation for local residents.

The service, which sees Council provide residents in the Burwood Local Government Area only, a voucher which can be used at an RMS approved restraint checking provider. Our provider is based in Blacktown but do mobile service for residents in Burwood. The technician comes to a location of your choice and fits or adjusts your child restraint as well as providing you with information about how to safely install your child restraint when your child is ready to move to a bigger seat.

Under Australian law, Children travelling in cars must be secured in an approved restraint. This means children:

*Younger than 6 months must be secured in a rear-facing restraint

  • 6 months to 4 years must be secured in a rear or forward-facing restraint

*4 to 7 years must be secured in a forward-facing restraint or booster seat

*Younger than 4 years must travel in the back seat of a vehicle with 2 or more rows.
If you live outside the Burwood local area, please contact your local council for information about nearby child restraint checks. If you wish to obtain a voucher complete the following form and our Road Safety Officer will be in touch with you.

I knew I shouldn't have clicked that just before the boss walked by… gonna be hearing from HR about that one, lol

        • I shouldn't have clicked that just before the boss walked by

lol. I wonder how the conversation went… :P

        • @jv: "Well, the boss said they wanted some ice-breakers for the upcoming training and I thought googling "rope play" would be safe…"

      right proper

      • Dear god

  • Free Child Restraint Check

I'd like to see them even try to restrain my kids…

  • For the child that doesn't know how to hold back!

It's about time parents and carers take some responsibility and read the instructions. Why does the government have to do everything?

    • Agreed! Just give us the council fees back! :-P
Obviously they have cash to burn!

    • because there is no shortage of stupid people.

Why ? ,oh god why ?
      The humanity !

Maybe some are poorly manufactured and come loose?

Maybe it's councillors are soon up for re-election and thought ,
bring the babies to us for a cheesy photo op

Maybe it's just a big conspiracy and they have some kind of giant baby slingshot they need to try out

      You decide

    • Wish they'd offer a service as well to teach people how to turn headlights on in cars that have DRLs and always-on instruments… sigh.

    duct tape FTW

Silence is golden. Duct tape is silver.

  • I'm pretty sure Burwood has been in the City of Whitehorse since 1994, rather than it's own council.

    • I'm pretty sure the NSW gives away that this isnt in Victoria……dont worry I was excited too….

      • The title makes no mention of state - it simply says Burwood. A bit more of a descriptive title wouldn't go astray here.

      lol…
it's ok (to think it's Victoria Burwood), I did that in my first year living in Australia.

let me give you a hug :)

  • I remember when I was 7 or 8 years old, me and a couple of friends were being taken on a day out by the mother of a friend of mine.

One of the other mums who was going to drive ended up having to cancel at the last minute, and so they had to somehow get the driver, another mum and eight kids into a small 4WD (I think it was a Rav4). Six children were double belted in the rear row of seating (no child restraints back then), and two were seated in some properly installed sideways facing seats in the boot.

So we set off and about 10 minutes later the cops pulled us over. They warned the mum driving the car about it and to never do it again, but then they let us continue on our way. This wasn't in 1970 or 1980 when you'd expect enforcement to be lax - this was in 2002. It seems unthinkable that the police would let you drive away with such a massive safety issue nowadays.

    • 2002 is 15 years ago. Just in case you think it was recent :P Thanks for making me feel old you whipper snapper!
