The Raspberry Pi is like the opposite of American Pie. One is for feeling what it's like to getting some, the other is for feeling what it's not like not getting some.

What makes this one "DIY" compared to the ones from RS or Element 14?

    • +1

This raspberry Pi hasn't been "Baked"
I assume that's what the "B" stands for anyway..

      • +4

        Geez, tough crowd 😂

      • +1

        I'll pay that one

    • +7

About $15 cheaper and a month slower to arrive.

  • +2

Just purchased one and paid for priority shipping for $2.80 and total $43.12.

    • +3

This is definitely worth it, when I have paid priority with GB the deliveries have arrived within 10 days.

i bought a pi camera to combine as a cheap streaming cctv. the case was printed by Anet a8

      • Good idea, i might give this a go, what did you install on it to get the camera working?

        • I have not done it yet. As I turned my pi into a monitor and controller of my 3d printer when I was about to do this cctv.

I am buying this pi and waiting for it to arrive.

    • https://volumio.org/raspberry-pi-i2s-dac-sounds-so-good/ is the best thing I've found to do that doesn't require learning anything.

http://www.ebay.com.au/itm/HIFI-DAC-Audio-Sound-Card-Module-… that dac is less than $20

I built a couple of mini arcade machines for the kids & a Kodi media player for the lounge room.

      • they work amazing for this

Pi-hole - network wide blocking of advertisements: https://pi-hole.net/

      • +1

that is amazing, best use for a Pi I have seen plus it sounds great.

      • You don't need pi3 for that, more like for zero.

    • +2

      I run a few.

Development PHP web servers with mysql.

Retro Pi running SNES with usb game pads for old school Nintendo game play

Octaprint for a 3D printer web server.

Kodi machine for media content consumption x 2.

    • +1

Retro Pie put it in a some arcade machines I am building.

Also have one hooked up to some PS3 controllers for console emulation.

For 50 bucks you can't go wrong really.

    • KODI

    • Very good question.. I have no idea what would anyone do with this ?

    • We have Raspberry Pi's all round the office hooked up to big screens, running dashboards and other software (that I develop) to display our up-to-the-minute business stats, graphs, trends, for orders, deliveries, income, expenses, etc. They are terrific little computers !

  • Got one with original enclosure + Priority shipping+ Insurance (total 51.44 AUD).
    Thanks OP.

    • Can you provide the original enclosure link here please.

  • I assume I'd need a power supply, case and SD card to get this up and running. What's the best place to buy the extras and how would it compare with buying a kit?

    • it can be powered with micro usb, so any phone charger with micro usb should work, unless they changed it from the Raspberry Pi 2

      • Still uses a Micro USB and Micro SD card to get it up and running with 4 USB ports+Wifi+ bluetooth.

        • finally. no more usb wifi and bluetooth dongles. all built in now :D

      • +1

it can be powered with micro usb, so any phone charger with micro usb should work, unless they changed it from the Raspberry Pi 2

That's pretty bad advice given the requirements are for a 2.5A power source and most common phone chargers are well under this.

    • +1

5V 2.5A supply is recommended. You won't be able to use any old USB port like on your PC as they don't supply enough current.

  • +1

If you want a SBC to use as a NAS, you're much better off getting the Rock64:

    https://www.pine64.org/?product=rock64-media-board-computer

Its got a quadcore Rockchip processor, but more importantly for NAS use, it has Gigabit Ethernet and USB 3 and Up to 4GBs of Ram.

  • Spewing bought a on eBay with coupon paid 53 :(

  • Might be time to turn the old iCade into a RPi Mame mini cab.

  • New to this, can anyone send me the link for the case on GB please. What else is required along with this to make it work efficiently.

  • seems a good toy for kids

  • The Code you entered has expired.

    • Seconding this, EXPIRED tags or new code plz thx

  • Raspberry816

    Apply
The Code you entered has expired.

  • I had one running Kodi for the last year but it has just died. No matter what I do now no HDMI output at all.

I think it may have browned out, even though I was using the official power pack. I used to get the lightning symbol sometimes when watching high res movies. Will probably not get another one, I'd be better off with a dedicated kodi box if that's all I'm using it for.

  • Not working anymore

  • For those running pi-hole on their raspberry pi, are you guys still getting video ads popping up at times?

  • So could I simply replace my R-Pi2 board with this one and everything should 'just work'?

Bah, missed it, code not working, back to $62 (which is more expensive than the local version). :(

    • +1

It is $50.40 if you remove the code.

  • went with the zappos deal a wk or so ago.
    UK stock

not sure I'd want to risk getting a made in china board
as read that there's more quality issues with these then the UK/JAP built ones…

  • Sad. I'll wait for deals from other sellers.
