  • I assume that this comes in a case, it's not just a HDD is it?

    • Yes it comes in a case. It's an external hard drive.

  • Anyone know if these guys ship, or know of a similar price with someone who will ship? I missed out on the deals last week.

  • Sweet price :) I'm sure it's gonna be around $100 soon :)

    • yeah its a really nice deal and 100 bux would be awesome.

  • Good deal, but I'd prefer it to delivered for an extra $8.

Ur opinion mate. I'm here already so 8 bucks in my
Pocket and I don't have to wait a week. Non the less it's a bargain

  • Is this the same model that people are reporting problems with in the CoTD thread?

    • I think so, Seagate only have one 2.5" portable hard drive. They seem to be dropping in price everywhere.

      • I think there are two. One is this normal USB 2.0 one, and there's another one which can do USB 3.0/eSata/Firewire. I presume this is the former.

Edit: According to the person below, this is the USB3.0 GoFlex model so it looks to be a pretty good bargain. Also, the deal starts tomorrow in case you try and go today!

nice deal, i got the seagate through COTD and presumed it would be as small as the WD passport but it is massive!! pretty ugly but the practical use still fine not needing a powersuppply

There's the size specs for comparison.

      Seagate® Expansion™ Portable Drives
      Height 17.6mm (0.69 in)
      Width 80.01mm (3.15 in)
      Length 141.29mm (5.56 in)

      My Passport Essential
      Height 15mm 0.60 Inches
      Width 83mm 3.2 Inches
      Length 110mm 4.3 Inches

  • Just called MSY in cheltenham and they confirmed that this is the GoFlex model.

    Specs here http://www.seagate.com/docs/pdf/datasheet/disc/ds_fa_goflex_…

JB is selling them for $229 so this is a bargain

    • MSY non-special price is $179.

    • "Use the standard USB 2.0 interface or upgrade to USB 3.0, FireWire® 800 or powered eSATA by pairing the
drive with the appropriate GoFlex upgrade cable."

Wonder what the USB3.0 cable would be like, and how much it would cost.

    • Is there any information on internal drive thickness? I'm considering ripping this out for my laptop (nice to score the detachable sata-usb connector too). I've googled but only found that the 1.5TB is 14mm, giving an outer limit tha's prob too big - forums.macrumors.com/showthread.php?t=1018365.

the go flex looks alot better then the expansion… its chunky as hell..

  • need one @_@ but cbf driving all the way there… Good price though

  • It's the goflex? They're expensive as you said. Are you sure?

  • You can get GoFlex model on eBay for just about the same price or fractionally more with shipping. Good price nevertheless for people who don't mind going to the actual MSY shop.

    • What's the exact title ? I can't find them on eBay anywhere near this price !

  • Just type seagate freeagent goflex 1tb and you should get some hits. I just did it and 13 of them came up.

    • I can only see around $160+ (inc delivery) for "Buy It Now" sales. How's that be same or cheaper than this deal?

      • Don't know what you are looking at. There are a couple of people selling them for $150 and free shipping, but if you have a look at completed listings, you'll find that plenty have been sold for around about $140 some even less than that.

This is probably the USB 2.0 Model, and since the USB 3.0 are out and are 10x times faster than the USB 2.0, thus the special to get rid of stock. BTW USB 3.0 is compatible with USB 2.0 but USB 3.0 products is new and will be dearer, so if you have USB 2.0 ports only and don't want to upgrade your computer then i suggest you go for it cause its a real bargain and the cheapest in Australia is $135 at the moment + free shipping :) PS. USB 2.0 will be outdated by the end of this year. http://www.onlinecomputer.com.au/product_info.php?products_i…

ahem. would there be any external 2.5" mechanical drives that would currently saturate a USB 2.0 connection??

      • Well you would get at least eSATA speeds without the need for eSATA.

I get around 15MB/s+ more on my 2.5" drive when connected with eSATA compared to USB 2.0. USB 2.0 is about 30MB/s and eSATA is about 45+MB/s.

Advantage with USB 3.0 you don't need another cable and USB 3.0 is a much simpler connection than eSATA.

Plus, a 1TB in a 2.5" package means the platters are very dense and you can get decent speeds out of the drive.

However, I wouldn't fork out another $30 just to get a USB 3.0 cable, I'd much rather buy a USB 3.0 enclosure to begin with (backwards compatible).

    • IF you look on Seagate's site you will see that the GoFlex drive and be upgraded to ESATA or USB 3.0 if you get the upgraded dock…

    • Ha! I think I might try this before 10.30 so I can still get to MSY for opening if it doesn't work.

  • Ultimo had 5 in stock and sold out in a few minutes…

  • I got it 10:45am this morning in Auburn, still heaps left. Even the sales said he will buy one for himself, such a bargain.

  • Correct me if I'm wrong, if this is a GoFlex, it is not the same one as OLC, which is an Expansion.

  • goflex is different to the expansion which is sold at OLC

  • Excellent deal while it lasted! I went in to purchase the unit, assuming that it was going to be a Seagate Expansion, to my surprise it was the Seagate GoFlex (which retails for $249 at Harris Tech).

    • So they don't have it anymore?

  • Be careful with Seagate external HDD guys.
I just join the club of brick HDD after only 2 weeks use. It's an Expansion drive though.
