Can i claim the tax if im travelling in the next 30 days?

    • If they have an ABN. Not 100% sure but I think they're from Singapore even though AU domain so no.

      • +2

Just because somewhere has an ABN does not mean they charge tax. They also have to be registered for GST which is only a requirement when they move more than $75k/year. In this case however, if they are an Australian business I’d assume with the items they’re selling that they defiantly would be.

      • Having an ABN is a requirement for a .com.au domain so they probably do have one.

Did you pay tax to claim back?

  • We don't pay import duty on this one right?

    • +7

$999 is what you pay in total - it covers delivery/import clearance and all other charges (if any)

      • +1

Do you guys wear monk habits in the shop?

  • +2

Is it a grey import? any warranty in Australia? Does the price include GST or not?
    Thanks

    • +1

Item is shipped from Singapore so yes you could say it's a grey import. Because it's a Mac it will have 1-year Apple international warranty, whereas if it was Australian stock Apple would guarantee it for 2 years.

It's very unlikely to have GST applied to invoice because as far as I can tell Shopmonk doesn't even have an ABN.

  • +1

Is this the same model as this one? $88 more from an AU seller.

    • +12

Seems so. But I suggest you look at this…

      • +1

        Thanks.

        • +2

Yep the only thing I'd recommend doing with onedigitals is price matching, they have a pretty bad rep for their UK store.

          1.8 Rating on TrustPilot

  • +1

It's already there if you search for Macbook Air at $999.

  • -2

    ~~No mention of GST?

The item is over $900 and as such GST must be paid to import it, no?~~

Nevermind, limit is actually $1000, not $900.

  • +1

I've just bought one and I thought $1000 and over pay tax

    • Yep this is correct, not sure where I seen 900….

Out of curiosity does it mention GST on the invoice? It's an Australian site so they could be paying it anyway.

      • +1

I've only received the order confirmation and it says $999. I'll wait for the proper invoice and see what it says there.

      • I think 900 is when u inboard in person.

  • how come macbook airs have normal usb ports while the pros dont?

    • +1

      Different generation?

Oh, 2017 so dunno. Because apple.

      • +3

Don't worry, the new 2017 MacBook Air will be nothing but… air. Because it will all be in the (i)cloud.

    • +5

Because the MacBook Air hasn't really been updated since 2015. Yes there was a small speed bump (possibly because intel didn't want to keep making the old CPU), but the MBA is Apple's "budget" laptop.

The MacBook Pro is Apple's top of the line laptop, so it comes with fancy ports (USB 3 + thunderbolt over USB C).

  • Do you think OW will price match?

    • +1

      No, this isn't AU Stock

    • Fat chance

    • +1

Office works price match onedigitals as I got gregge himes for $134.80 from ow

  • -3

To me the Macbook Air design is a bit dated…

    • +7

This may be, but nothing compares against its quality, functionality and longevity.

      • If only it had a retina screen…. it'd be a beast!

        • +3

          Battery life would be affected

      • +5

I can attest to their longevity; my mid 2012 MacBook Air hasn't missed a beat in 5 years of quite extreme daily use/battering.

      • +7

Definitely lacking retina screen. Pixelated display kill it for me

        • +4

Yep, if you glue your nose to it you can see the pixels. If your look at it from a distance of normal people you can't really see it.

        • +2

@OnlinePred: TN 45% NTSC is baaaad

        • +2

@XanderYuan: yea so bad…no idea how I could look at a word document or website without 100%rgb lololol

        • +2

@OnlinePred: the sharpness or lack of is very noticeable from any angle or distance. When u compare to Retina display or even surface pro the MacBook Air appears blurry. Some ppl may not care about a blurry screen if all they doing is gmailing and Facebook but for $1000+ device ud probably be doing bit More on it so i would. Otherwise a $350 iPad is better suited with a better screen anyways

        • +4

@Gavman: I have been coding on my MBA for 6 years. I'm not going to code on an iPad. Everyone's use case is different. I wanted a light laptop that can do light to medium tasks and I can watch some media on it, in which case the MBA is the best. If you edit photos or videos why the hell would you get a MBA lol. It's like saying I want a fast car, so I will look at a Prius.

        • @OnlinePred: I'm considering purchasing this MBA for that exact reason: to code on a lightweight machine that I can take to uni each day. I was looking at some cheaper laptops to install a Linux distro, but this deal is really tempting me. I'm just worried that I'll find the display jarring (I have an FHD laptop that I use at home, but is a little on the heavy side to take with me). Any thoughts on this?

        • +1

@kpm: if you are looking at boot camp, or running multiple distros, get the 256gb. Also can be more fiddly than a windows machine to run Linux natively. Bootcamp works fine though. Just do your research.

Having a 2k screen at work and home, going to the MBA for Dev work while i am travelling etc is fine. If it is going to be your sole Dev display, I would consider a higher resolution display, although then you run the risk of eye strain of the text is too small etc.

It's fine for a cheap, high quality, long lasting, versatile laptop. I even played dota 2 on my 2011 MBA!

        • -1

@OnlinePred: idk about you, but staring at these screens are uncomfortable for my eyes

        • @XanderYuan: how did you survive before? Never used computers or TVs until the last 4 years. Idk about you, but this is fine with me as it's the best ultra portable there is. And having a work dell xps 13, i can confirm resolution is nice but is worse for your eyes, especially in windows LOL

        • @OnlinePred: Flux all day was the solution, I don't think it's the best ultra portable, a good ultra portable must have a good screen.

        • @XanderYuan: yes but this shows how bad the other options out there is. Also, it's a fantastic screen, just not high res

        • @OnlinePred: compare the screens side by side, similar brightness same photos, MBA gives me a pale feeling, it's too white

        • @XanderYuan: yes and compare trackpad, keyboard and build quality, and MBA wins every time

        • @OnlinePred: track-pads yes, others no

        • -1

@XanderYuan: clearly haven't used many Ultrabooks… We use MBA, surface pro, surface book, ThinkPad X1, Lenovo yoga, dell xps 13. There is no competition. Battery, performance, quality, trackpad, keyboard.

        • @OnlinePred: screen is a deficiency too big, if you say the 12-inch mac book i might agree, but air is too weak.

        • @XanderYuan: if you like high res screens, luckily there are two other models for you. What do you do that needs a high res screen on an ultraportable anyway

        • @OnlinePred: It's not all about high res, it's the color gamut as well. I take huge amounts of notes. I don't enjoy taking notes on an uncomfortable screen where I can clearly see the pixels. Note taking and consolidating notes makes up one forth of my daily life. (law student)

        • -1

@XanderYuan: As a software engineer for the past 15 years, the MBA has done more than take notes for me LOL. I have had my current 2011 MBA for almost 6 years and it hasn't missed a beat. Maybe you need glasses when using a computer screen. Anyway you will learn alot in life, and perhaps not to be so picky about how colours look in a note application LOLOLOL

        • @OnlinePred: this is why i sold my MBA and bought an ipad air 2 to take notes and I have a gl502vs gtx1070 laptop at home to use, this way i can take notes comfortably and complete all the heavy tasks on the laptop at home.

        • @XanderYuan: none of those are ultraportables. Also what Monitor do you use with the Asus as it has a terrible display.

        • @OnlinePred: What makes you think it has a terrible display

        • @OnlinePred: Yeah, didn't need an ultra-portable, but we are going off topic, MBA is not the best ultra-portable

        • @XanderYuan: it is. That's all there is to it. If you are after done stupid single requirement then that's up to you. Over all it is the best.

        • @XanderYuan: all reviews put it will below razor and mbp display accuracy, brightness and contrast

        • @OnlinePred: "These days, notebooks in the Air’s price range are usually equipped with IPS panels. The Air 13, however, is not. Thus, it suffers from significant color and brightness distortions that TN panels are famous for, and vertical viewing angles are very poor. Those of you who are used to either smartphone or notebook IPS panels will suffer immensely. Horizontal viewing angles are somewhat better. Combined with the highly reflective coating, the poor viewing angles make it very difficult to find an ideal display position and angle. - notebookcheck

        • @OnlinePred:It is one of the first gtx1070 gaming laptops. it cannot be compared with mbp, instead mbp has one of the best quality screens for its price as a laptop, but again, mbp is not a gaming laptop. You have not identified the exact model of the razor that you are referring to, I have no idea which screen you would like to compare it to. If you can regard MBA's screen as good, then how can you say that my laptop's screen is any bad?

        • -1

@XanderYuan: are your a child? Can you not look at a screen straight on? Razor blade 14 is the gaming laptop i would have chosen or the MSI gt80 Titan. Then again i would never buy a gaming laptop again having been through that phase when I was in uni.

Unlike you, i can survive coding on my MBA, then I can game on my PS4 Pro, or my custom PC. MBA is an ultraportable, and no matter what your say, you would be stupid to consider anything else if you want a good trackpad and keyboard on a very thin laptop at around the $1k price point. (Unless your are a picky law student who seemingly only cares about having the best display ever-probably uses a Sony premium zx 4k phone too)

        • @OnlinePred: It was a quote from notebook check, not me. You are being unreasonable, blade 14 is a 1060, MSI is a 980msli, none of them equates 1070. If MSI gt80 doesn't get updated, it is out of date and is smashed by the new Nvidia 10 series. Buying an out of date laptop is stupid. Good for you, I value the screen over keyboard, keyboard over track-pad. And by the way, my laptop can be carried around easily if necessary, it is less than 3 kg in weight. At the 1K price, Xiaomi Mi Notebook Air 13.3 is probably one of the better choices.

        • +1

@XanderYuan: lol thanks for proving my point.

        • @OnlinePred: lol, you clearly don't know much about gaming laptops and you are off topic again, MBA is not the best ultra-portable, 1K price was not a restriction.

        • @XanderYuan: How many MBA's have you owned? How many ultrabooks have you owned? How many ultraportables have you owned? If you have not owned any MBA's, then you cannot argue. This deal is for $999 delivered lol, wtf you talking about

        • @OnlinePred: 2MBAs, all sold, 11 and 13 both of them. About 4 ultras, 999 delivered doesn't not justify the fact it has an abs crap screen, wtf are you taking about???This isn't about price, it's about MBA being the beeest.

        • @XanderYuan: And it is. Please show me which ultrabook/ultraportable is better.

        • @OnlinePred: spectre 13, MacBook 12

        • @XanderYuan: I'm trying to have a decent discussion but I quit as you clearly don't know what you are talking about.

MacBook 12. Firstly a great device, although CPU is MUCH slower than MBA and integrated graphics is not comparable, you can't even compare it. You should know this. AND it's more expensive.

Secondly the HP Spectre is a very nice looking ultrabook on paper, we actually leased 4 at work for 6 months for the mobile devs, and all we got were complaints about the trackpad software and downgrade in keyboard tactility and depth (coming from MBA). Also it was one of the loudest fans in a ultrabook (became distracting in meetings!) we have tested. Had an amazing screen though, and didn't get as hot as MBA or DELL XPS 13. Also had a smaller battery than both DELL XPS 13 and MBA which resulted in almost 1-2 hours less system runtime at heavy use, and sometimes up to 5 hours less when used lightly. We also had an incident of which the Spectre screen shattered as the top section is very weak and flexible.

Okay peace out, perhaps more research will help you in the future.

          Thanks.

        • @OnlinePred: being much slower is still enough for typing, depending on people's needs, if you think it's not enough, get a 7200u or 7300hq with mx150 or gt940mx
My MacBook Air overheated and had an expanding battery that it caused it to be unstable on a desk. If you want to argue about probability of shit happening, then any laptop can have a problem.
Mba is bad at the most basic level. Its specs

        • this might be one of the longest chain posts ive seen, so im gonna join and put in my 2c.

I use my macbook air 2014 every day. great quality/design, but the display really is outdated now. almost every display you find on a $700+ laptop these days is far superior. its about the only downside to the airs.

        • +6

          @XanderYuan:

OMFG, get a room and shag it off you two.

        • @XanderYuan:

It is a good price for those wanting this. 25% off local prices of around $1380, it belongs on this bargain site. Apple's battery life is still hard to beat.

That said, it is a grandaddy by now:

At only $999, the MacBook Air with its 13.3-display (1440x900), 1.8 GHz dual-core processor, 8 GB of RAM, and a whopping 128 GB SSD is a true steal (this sentence may contain traces of irony). Unfortunately, at this price it does not include an IPS panel with decent viewing angles, and even lacks Apple’s Force Touch touchpad.

          https://www.notebookcheck.net/Apple-MacBook-Air-13-2017-Lapt…

        • @orly: I agree, up voted

        • @RedHab: It's definitely a good price, but it's not the best

        • @xEnt: Also the cpu as well, they haven't been updating it. But it makes little difference anyway. Seems like to me apple is giving up this chain.

        • +1

@OnlinePred: I bought two MBAs (an 11 inch and a 13 inch) and a Hp Spectre pro x360 at the same time for the offspring entropy's.
Bottom line all are good machines, the 11 inch screen is too low a resolution to be any good (i don't think you can buy them anymore). The spectre is noisy as you say and the battery, while good for a windows machine (double my work HP G2 820), isn't as good as either of the MBAs. It has a touch screen but really, at most it is used for scrolling only. The trackpad on the MBAs is vastly superior to the spectre's.
The 13 inch MacBook screen is better than the 11, but not as good as that on the spectre. But the 13 is the best all rounder of the three.

I would get a 13 inch MBA at a $1000 well before a Spectre for more than half as much again. bargain. The 13 inch MBA is really one of the best ultrabooks ever made. A pity the screen hasn't been updated as otherwise it is perfect.

        • @entropysbane: yep sucks that no other truly beats it overall. I mean i want a windows Ultrabook, but from my history, i wouldn't spend my money on then.

        • @RedHab: Force touchpad is faking the air touchpad, how is this a feature?

        • @kpm: "Installing linux disto"….. ;)

  • Wondering if we can collect this in Singapore
    Will fly there on weekend

    • Probably not necessary as they can post it.

Shipped on the 15th, arrived this arvo. Typing on it right now. Super happy with the whole transaction.

  • +13

Do I need one?? I'll buy one just in case

  • Thanks TA. What about 256GB one? 128G is a bit too small, not enough space.

What's the warranty arrangement? do i need to ship it back to Singapore? mine needs a battery replacement after one year normal use.

    • +3

      From ShopMonk rep.

"Please note that all our products are backed by one year shopmonk warranty. For warranty claim- Item needs to be sent to our Yarraville office (VIC) (~$10 with Australia post)
We pay for the return postage after repair/replacement."

      • Thanks.

      • +1

Thanks. For Apple products it's better that Apple has one year global warranty on their products so customers can claim the warranty through Apple local stores.
Alternatively, customers can claim warranty directly with shopmonk as well as per above comment- it's just that it might cost around $15 to ship MacBook to Yarraville VIC.

        • Thanks for the information.

Any word on 256GB model going on sale?

        • Op, can't sharpen you pencil on the 256gb version?

    Wow that bezel!

    • I like big bezel and I can not lie

      You other brothers can't deny
That when a laptop walks in with an itty bitty bezel
And a square thing in your face
You get sprung, want to pull up tough
'Cause you notice that bezel was stuffed
Deep in the LCD she's wearing
      I'm hooked and I can't stop staring
Oh baby, I want to get wit'cha
      And take your picture
My homeboys tried to warn me
But with that bezel you got makes (me so horny)
      Ooh, Rump-o'-smooth-skin
You say you want to get in my Benz?
      Well, use me, use me
'Cause you ain't that average groupie
      I've seen her dancin'
      To hell with romancin'
      She's sweat, wet,
Got it goin' like a turbo clocked Pentium 4
      I'm tired of magazines
Sayin' thin bezel is the thing
Take the average tech man and ask him that
      She gotta pack much border
      So, fellas (Yeah) Fellas (Yeah)
Has your laptop got the bezel? (Hell yeah)
Tell 'em to shake it (Shake it) Shake it (Shake it)
      Shake that healthy bezel

I like 'em rectangle, and big
And when I'm throwin' a gig
I just can't help myself, I'm actin' like an animal
      Now here's my scandal
I want to get you home
      And ugh, double-up, ugh, ugh
      I ain't talkin' bout ASUS
'Cause silicone parts are made for toys
I want 'em real thick and juicy
      So find that juicy double
      Malouphix's in trouble
Beggin' for a piece of that bezel
So I'm lookin' at rock videos
      Knock-kneed bimbos walkin' like DELLs
      You can have them, DELLs
I'll keep my laptops like Macbooks
A word to the thick soul laptops, I want to get with ya
I won't cuss or hit ya
But I gotta be straight when I say I want to surf
      Til the break of dawn
      Baby got it goin' on
A lot of simps won't like this song
'Cause them punks like to hit it and control+F4 it
And I'd rather stay and play
'Cause I'm long, and I'm strong
And I'm down to get the friction on the trackpad
      So, ladies (yeah) Ladies (yeah)
If you want to role in my Mercedes (yeah)
Then turn around, stick it out
Even Microsoft boys got to shout
      Baby got bezel
