$415 for a 3 year old device? How is this a bargain?

Same price almost 2 years ago:

Its also like holding an oyster, so slippery and not helped by its size. Mine hit the deck from no more than 60cm, web like cracked the screen. Still worked but then the large slippery sucker went for a short shallow dip in water, and screen died. Phone rang, could hear various sounds as phones do, but couldnt do anything with it.

    I paid $399 at JB.

Too expensive. Won't even buy it for $299 AU now.

Oh God don't buy this in 2017… Mine became dead slow and would take forever to be detected by Android auto, palmed it off to the Mrs as she broke her Xiaomi

  • Such baby bezels for dual front firing speakers.

This is the XT1003 (American) model which does not have Band 28.

    It supports:
    LTE band 2(1900), 3(1800), 4(1700/2100), 5(850), 7(2600), 12(700), 13(700), 17(700), 25(1900), 26(850), 29(700), 41(2500)

I remember the nexus 5 was released for around a similar price. What a phone that was! Nexus 6 isn't worth this in 2017. Especially an American one that lacking band 28.

Still using my Nexus 5, no probs.

Wouldn't the G5Plus be better value?

  • Not even sure the unambiguously better 6P would be a good bargain at this price.

    • +1

The 6P has bootlooping problems, as per a Google Employee's comment on Reddit and few months back, somebody worked out that disabling CPU cores and sacrificing performance would help prevent the bootloop syndrome.

As of August though there is a work around for it now which doesn't involve disabling CPU cores.

Of course, this doesn't mean you should go out of your way to buy a 6P. Only for the geeky who doesn't mind applying his/her own fixes.

      • I've got my 6p since launch and have no issues ?

      • i own two Nexus 6P phones and don't have and never had an issue with either of them. Never had bootloop issues nor have either of them had any issues where they felt slow or sluggish. I have never had to apply any workaround or fix for these phones. I also have the Nexus 6, and I think only once I had to disable something in it after a patch messed it up and that lasted about a week before a new patch was pushed to the phone.

Edit: lol. The "Google employee" replied to this issue about a year ago. Also made mention that it only affected a small amount of users. So, I say again, I would consider the boot loop a non issue and more on the grounds of scare mongering.

  • with older model phones its which version of android they support, or will support, so if it doesn't get Android O it's an end of life product, and there are other phones that might have more android updates before they go end of life.

  • I looked at getting one of these a week ago when replacing a failed 5x. Problem is getting very old and No fingerprint reader. Ended up with moto 5 plus.

I really liked mine. $358 from JB-Hi-Fi and band 28. Then again, it was two years old at the time…

    • really liked mine too. I dont mind the slipperiness of the phone and always do one hand flips and spin it on a table top lol. Shattered the screen in two places from a bajillion drops and its still going like a champ. only qualm is the battery is shot and wouldnt last an hr of gaming off charge.

  • i had one and this phone is really slow. takes 20 seconds to start up the camera. I know i had lots of apps but it still shouldnt be like that.

  • Dont know why this phone is still at this price. its more than 3 years old. You could get high end phones for that price from different brnads.

  • It's less than $300 on eBay
