      What exactly?

        • +14

What's the problem? this is a genuine discount on an item that is available to Australia, is that not what this website is for?

        • +10

@0p: Just no. We have strict licensing laws, strict background checks, strict storage requirements, strict firearms categories restrictions, mandatory waiting times and a culture that isn't so deep rooted in patriotism, amendment rights and gun stupidity.

          @maxwellian:

Spot on maxwellian. If I see a deal I'm not interested in I simply don't click on it. I have no idea why people click into these deals just to voice their unwanted opinions because they "don't like it".

I have the long action Howa 1500 in .223 and it is my most accurate rifle. Outperforms others well over twice the price. I imagine the short action is just as great to shoot. Highly recommended.

    • +3

Can second this. I have a Howa 1500 in .308 that is absolutely fantastic value.

    • +2

+1. My Howa .223 constantly shoots 1" groups. Was recently looking at a Sauer 30-06 but I'm thinking of going for another Howa for half the price! :)

      • +1

My Howa .223 constantly shoots 1" groups.

With hand loads presumably? If not, what factory ammo shoots MOA please?

        • Here's a question. On the Howa facebook page everyone disses factory loads. Sure i get that hand loading will get more balanced for the job but aren't some factory loads pretty good?

        • Nope, just OSA Game Kings in a 55gr. I bought a 20pk to test them out when I bought the rifle and they just worked so I've stayed with them.

Edit: I will add that I don't shoot competitively so that might make a difference. If I was I'd probably use hand loads. My results are purely based on sighting in and practicing as we like to have our rifles spot on out in the field.

thebargainhunter. Username checks out for sure.

    • You have a short action Howa, I've never heard of a long action .223 ;)

But I agree, they're great rifles for the price. All steel too from memory, no plastic.

      • +1

Oops! Sorry, you're correct. It's long compared to the mini 😀

  • +3

Howas are very underrated, and this is at a very very good price.

  • Any bargains on a scope to suit a .22?

  • +10

Picked up an 8x scope and suppressor if you need it.

i'm looking for a level 3 helmet actually

      • there's one on the second level

Level 2 backpack toilet with some 9mm and extended mag.

    • +2

Don't forget to run like a maniac to the care package to get that sick ghillie suit.

  • Good for pest control

  • Are these good with 5.56 mm ammo?

    • +2

I wouldn't recommend it. 5.56 is loaded to higher pressure

    • +1

5.56 is fine. Don't worry about anyone saying otherwise. Just monitor for overly flattened primers.

      • +1 the rifle will easily handle the extra (if any) pressure.

        • +2

Actually what Hayesy22 is saying is 100% correct!

If you are referring to 5.56 calibre being the same then i would agree. [There are minor differences if you want to get pedantic but in general 223.rem = 5.56mm]

However if you are thinking of using surplus military ammo the be aware that these rounds are loaded to higher pressure (from memory 5-10 K PSI). This is should be within your rifle tolerance levels however it’s a risk that you are taking and it will promote fatigue a LOT faster. (similar to of using a an afgas in your car)

        • @gtech: This higher pressure would be true in some cases, but would be within the tolerances of the action. I agree that I would not use ex-mil exclusively, I would buy it cheap and fireform the cases for hand loading. 26 to 28 grains of Winchester 760 ball powder over a 52 grain boat tailed hollow point would be an excellent starting point. That load gave me 0.5 MOA all day long at Little River in my Weatherby.

Anyone Know what the RRP For the package would be?

Seems like a great choice with the lot

  • +1

guns! har har har har but in all honesty, it sounds like a good deal if shooting sh*t is your thing. I wonder what other hobbies and interests will get featured? Guns seem to be a new thing recently - not that I hate it! I love that there are new product categories being featured. Even if it is something that I don't really understand.

  • Dumb question, but in Vic how do you go about using one of these at a range? I did it a few years ago in Vegas and enjoyed going to a gun range..
I believe in Vic you start out with a pistol license (of sorts) but to use a rifle doesn't that require an advanced license?

    • +4

Other way around, handgun licence a lot harder, longer and more $$$ to get. To get a Cat A/B licence (rimfire/centrefire bolt action rifle) you attend a safety course, submit application, deemed a suitable person, apply for a permit to purchase a rifle and buy rifle.

      • Cheers.. Might look into it.. Not many rifle ranges though in Melbourne from memory..

        • +1

There's actually a few. My side is Little River, out to 1000m I believe. Heaps of clay target clubs and another rifle range in Springvale. There's a bunch of handgun clubs too.

I'd say the last thing we want is people who don't participate in the community trying to dictate what the community wants.
The voting makes it clear that these types of bargains are appreciated. Use the Hide feature if you don't like this stuff.

    • +6

You are both correct and incorrect.
Nobody in wants Australia to become like the US where on an average day, 93 people die from firearms (violence, accidents and suicides). But Australia is a very different environment. We don't have the NRA telling us to worship guns. We don't have anywhere near the same level of blind and ill-informed patriotism to an outdated amendment to our constitution. We have far more restrictions and requirements to own and maintain gun ownership. This is not trash, nor do we have a gun culture.

      • You know by far the most amount of gun violence committed in the USA is at the hands of gang members and drug dealers, who seldom use legally purchased firearms, and who certainly do not receive support from the NRA or their 'outdated amendment', as you put it.

Thank you for being such a valuable contributor to the community.

  • Ozbargain Army formed, who's next to conquer? Roboguy?

  • Guys beware, these posts are set up to catch out the guys who are into firearms and then big brother starts watching. I'm into Barbie dolls and cats guys so don't come snooping on me

    • +2

BB can watch me all he likes, but I'm a bit concerned about your barbie doll fetish.

  • These are fantastic value guns, more accurate than I'll every be. I got the stainless version a while ago but it was a bit extra. I wouldn't get the Nikko scope though, for about another $130 the bushnell or Nikon AR series scopes are brilliant and definitely worth the upgrade in my opinion.

    • I agree with spending more on the scope, I have a Bushnell elite 3200 on mine.

    • Totally. Paired mine with a Burris Fullfield E1 and love it.
