Dahua Combo Kit - 7" Monitor and PoE Door Intercom - Q Security Systems Melbourne @ $250.80

60

First post, and I couldn't find a deal on Vaseline…

This will most likely require a professional installation of data cabling between the outdoor intercom, and the internal unit

If you're in the market for a video door intercom, and your research has led you to a PoE video intercom that has the capability for remote viewing as well as connectivity to internal monitors, then the Dahua VTO6210BW VTH1560BW combo kit may be just what you need. Q Security (Melbourne office) is currently selling the combo (7" monitor and door intercom) for $228 exc GST.
List price on the Q Security website is $511 exc. GST, but is now selling for $228 exc. GST ($250.80 inc)

Please refer to the link provided as there are currently other items being cleared as well.
Stock levels in the Melbourne store is currently 65.

In my situation, I've decided to install and connect it using the PoE option(using Cat 6 cable), and I bought this device from eBay separately, taking advantage of the recent 10% off
deals:
Dahua DH-VTNS1060A POE Switch for Dahua IP System Indoor Monitor + Power Adapter -
http://www.ebay.com.au/itm/Dahua-DH-VTNS1060A-POE-Switch-for…

This was a pretty good price for local stock.
Based on your situation, you can either go the PoE route for powering either device, or buy the power supply unit for another $30 or so online or through Q Security as well…

I have tested my installation (table installation), and my option of combo kit and the PoE switch sourced from the eBay link above works great. The unit also provides me with the option of remote unlock in the scenario where I connect an electronic lock to the door unit and door itself.
If memory serves me well, it also allows me to view other IP cameras in operation on my home network (I have not tested this part…yet)

  • Is this DIY or does it need a professional electrician to install it ?

  • The cabling requires a professional install. There is an ethernet cable required between the outdoor unit and the internal monitor…my bad should have included in the description…Will update.

    • Does the internal monitor power the outdoor unit via ethernet cable? Is the internal monitor PoE or do you plug it into 240v?

      • Without the PoE switch, both units would need to be powered separately using the appropriate psu that plugs directly into the 240v.
        With the PoE switch, both outdoor and indoor units are poe.
        refer to the diagram in the dahua docs to get a basic view of the setup (Poe switch based) - refer to page 2 in the pdf -

        • Thanks, sounding good. One more question though do you have to use a Dahua switch or should any PoE switch work?

        • @leTintin: Yeah, good question. Is this active or passive PoE? I got caught with that on the HIKVISION solution. Passive POE is 12/24V versus active PoE at the standard 48V. That alone was nearly a dealbreaker.

        • @leTintin: No idea, sorry. I just used the recommended PoE switch as per the link:Model DH-VTNS1060A

        • @SteveAndBelle: I bought the following PoE:
          Model DH-VTNS1060A
          Voltage 24V

        • @clenched: Yeah see that to me is strange. 'Proper' PoE is and always has been a 48V injection so I don't know why all this new PoE stuff is coming out for 12 or 24V. My existing PoE HIKVISION Cameras all run off a TP-Link 8-Port PoE switch (http://www.tp-link.com/us/products/details/cat-5070_TL-SG221…) and it's feeding each camera 48V. The mind boggles as to why there has to be so many unofficial 'standards'.

        • @SteveAndBelle: So something like this will likely not work then with that kind of PoE switch?

        • @leTintin: I dont think so. I'd need to look up the product spec to see if it's 'Active' or 'Passive' POE as I only just learnt about the differences a few weeks ago when testing the HIKVISION kit. Who knew?!

        • @SteveAndBelle: Rather annoying then! I wish there was just one type of PoE, imagine any other device or appliance where you had to look up spec sheets before plugging in!

        • @leTintin: Actually it doesn't look like it's POE at all, check out the info and the pic in this eBay listing: http://www.ebay.com/itm/Dahua-VTKB-VTO6210BW-VTH1560BW-7-Inc… Looks like the 'PoE' switch Clenched refers to above is actually a 'Dahua protocol POE switch' which is 24V.

          You mean like
          * Optical drive Bluray/DVD etc
          * Optical drive regions
          * DVD/Bluray regions
          * Floppy drive
          * Type C USB
          * SIM card sizes
          * SD cards
          * Power supplies 115/230v
          * Oil types
          And the list goes on….. Forever….

          Imagine if there was only one type of PoE and people with one device were forced to buy a full blown PoE switch instead of an PoE injector.

        • @Maverick-au: I was more thinking things that are powered like USB devices and 240v appliances - they all seem to 'just work'.

          But they don't.

          You have USB type A, type B, type C, micro and mini to name a few. On top of that you have many different charging standards and type C leads that can fry equipment.

          For AC you have 115V and 230V and a huge number of different types of plugs and sockets.

  • Nice work OP and welcome to OzB.

    This could be exactly what I'm looking for. I've been tempted with the 'Ring' product etc. but hate the way they're all proprietary and aren't just basic IP devices so I went for a HIKVISION Combo that looks very similar to this however it was a bit klunky and didn't really do what I needed either… but that may have just been due to the English Firmware the eBay reseller flashed.

    Anyway, it sounds like we both want a similar system ie. a simple active PoE IP Video Intercom for the Front Door but also allow an IP connection to the camera in the external unit for basic surveillance and recording to a NAS plus to also use the monitor unit to connect to other IP cameras on the network. I'd love to know if your tests prove it worthy of this configuration/expectation so when do you plan to give it a go?

    • thanks. Yep you nailed the requirement piece…I have a love/hate relationship with Wi-Fi (more hate), so decided to go this route. I only plan on getting it installed and configured in another 2 to 3 months (new home build on the go), but thought that someone else may benefit from the deal now.

      • Yeah cheers. I assume it'll do exactly what we need but I might give it a miss as I've lost too much on other possible solutions in recent weeks/months… too risky :) I'll stick with my standard PoE IP Cam, standard vintage twist-the-dial vintage doorbell and a cheap Android Tablet with battery removed.

    • Carrying on from the previous doorbell discussions S&B!… I'm a bit disappointed for your sake that the Hikvision combo hasn't turned out as planned.

      • +1

        Yeah, it was SO close to being right… just all a bit flaky and I really want to blame that on the English firmware but dont know for sure. As it was all still basically brand new I listed it on eBay starting at 99c and was very transparent with my findings but made a video of it 'working' as much as it did. It sold for $100 less than I paid but I learnt a thing or two in the process so not all is lost :) Onward and upward…
