If ever there were a case for buying something locally so you can return it when it falls apart…

  • If the cups are touching when not in use, what's the clamping force like when on your head?

I've heard a lot of good things about these, but they aren't lookers that's for sure.

They're like pillows on your ears. I know it doesn't look it, and the clamping force is obviously very strong, but they're the most comfortable pair of headphones I've worn and I barely notice them.

Also it's probably worth noting for the benefit of everyone, Massdrop are launching the Hifiman HE4XX's tomorrow for US$170 + shipping. They have a different headband but they'll most likely sound similar.

      • How does something like this compare to QC35?

        • They're completely different headphones for different use cases.

QC35 is for portable use (wireless + ANC + closed back). These are for home use (wired + open).

If you're comparing how they sound at home in a quiet environment, there's no contest. These will kill the QC35. They're audiophile approved headphones. The Bose aren't.

I wouldn't recommend these for on the go however. They let outside sound in and there's no noise canceling. That's what the Bose are for.

      • That's $30 cheaper than Sennheiser HD6xx.

How does it compare to those?

        • These are planar, not a standard cone and coil design. stick with what you know or do some reading on the pros and cons of planar.

        • @noone025: Hmm. They're heavy.

Did some research but nothing can be a substitute to actually listening to them. Do you know any place that has them on display for listening?

        • @lostn:
Probably not this brand, but high end hifi shops may stock a planar product. need to be powered with a high wattage amp (so, not a cheap combo).
