Still waiting for mine from the previous deal.

    • +41

One does not simply wait for a package from a Banggood deal.

      Here are the steps to follow;

      1. You enjoy getting the bargain
      2. Forget about the purchase
      3. Be surprised when the unexpected package arrives 3 to 4 weeks later
      • That can be said from any/most deal coming from overseas.

      • +23

That's pretty much how it goes for me, although it's usually my wife who collects the mail, followed by asking "What did you order from China?", with the response usually being "I have no idea, let's find out…"

        • +2

          Correction
"What did you order from China, THIS time?"

      • +1

        It's like Christmas every day.

  • The tension wrenches in these kits are a bit in the narrow side, but they are easy to make out of he metal strips from your discarded wiper refills.

    • +1

There are actually 3 tension wrenches in this kit.

Received mine from previous deal last week. The only lock I can unlock is that plastic transparent padlock, still unable to unlock any other padlocks I have at home :(

      • +1

Read some guides online. There are few well known PDFs of books. It's actually quite scary how much of my own home doors I could pick..

        • I have read that Lock Picking Detail Overkill PDF handbook. Still can't have a good feel of the tumbler pins.

      • +1

I had previously only opened the practice lock and a couple of lockers for work colleagues who left their keys at home but got a lockwood padlock open less than a week ago. I did it several times just to prove it wasn't a fluke. The rake method worked surprisingly easily actually.

        • Im glad people are actually doing it.

I have one and got very good at unlocking the Practice one, even doing it in a couple of seconds without looking at it.

But as soon as I moved on to a Proper lock I couldn't do it :(

Not even a crappy smaller one….

        • @mavis30551: The Master brand padlocks that Bunnings sell are a good step up from these plastic practice ones, to give you a bit more of a challenge. Easier to pick than say a Lockwood lock, but still require some degree of effort and feel for what you're doing.

P.S. Don't use Master padlocks to secure anything important!

        • @dm01:
Don't use any padlocks what so ever, no padlock stops a plumbers wrench.

        • Or a cordless angle grinder.

        • @dm01:
Especially brass padlocks. The shaft just shatters the brass when twisted.

      • I still find my trusty mallet and chisel works well at opening padlocks…

        • +1

Might as well use a shotgun ;p

        • +1

@edfoo: I tried that, but I found it chips the wood on the stock…

      • Check out the bosnianbill YouTube channel. Might get some tips from it.

        • Yep, have watched a couple of his videos.

  • Using the code its free shipping but it is 17.14 AUD, am i doing something wrong? As 8.71 i would buy it?

  • $13.19 with Direct Priority Mail and insurance, that way might have a better chance of getting it in less than 2 weeks?

You will be an expert in lock picking by the time the other ozbargainers get their goods

  • Before I pull the trigger on this, what's the legality on owning one of these kits in victoria? I'm assuming police wouldn't be happy finding this in your backpack even if it's just a hobby.

    • There's a good run down of the laws here: https://www.lockpicksaustralia.com.au/lock-picking/legality/

Unfortunately, they forgot about Victoria - so you'll have to do more research.

    • For Victoria under section 91(1) of the Crimes Act 1958 (Vic), a person found carrying lock picking tools may be guilty of an offence where it can be inferred that he or she was about to commit burglary, theft or a cheat offence.
Keep it at home and don't go wandering around at night with the lock picks and a balaclava and you should be fine.

      • +1

Also don't go wandering around at night IN Balaclava…

  • +7

Bought it in the last deal the quality of this entire thing is so bad you shouldn't pay more than 99c for it.

    • +1

Agreed. Plus it comes with a whole punch of picks you will never use. Better to put the money towards a decent starter set from somewhere like pickpals.

    • +1

Mine was getting jammed with its own key before I even tried the picks. At least since it's clear I could see where a couple of the springs were mangled/stuck and where the inside metal edges were jamming on/cutting into the plastic walls inside. Going back to a normal lock was less frustrating.

  • This is an awesome novelty item to own. Everyone I show it to is drawn to giving it a go until it clicks. I'll be buggered if I can actually get the feel for the whole technique on anything other than the clear lock though. I just end up using the flat, back side of the tools to get the tumblers all flush…

    • +1

Yes, the practice locks are very, very easy. Lots more practice is required before you will get other locks open. I have had success on my desk drawers and front door - but it took an impractically long time.

  • +2

    Ok, ordered one.

Now, where can I find a transparent practice car to learn some more… useful skills?

    • +1

At the Vatican, you can use it on the Pope Mobile.

      • It's a lie. Pope Mobile may be transparent but I am sure its lock is of super high security.

        • +4

          You have such little faith.

        • +4

          @Scab: Yes, I'm an atheist.

  • Got mine from the last deal but with one problem - the damn 'latch' on the side of the lock fell off in transport so there were pins and springs everywhere. Now I gotta put it all back together before I can learn some, ahem, useful skills…

  • Useful for my boy if he has trouble finding a job in the near future

    • +3

You want him to be a locksmith? Good on you daddy ;)

  • Can we get a deal on the 5pc transparent practice lock set? Lots of people have the starter kits and would likely purchase the extra locks as well.

  • +1

Got one of these and they are junk. They are fine on the practice lock, but aren't strong enough on a real lock and just break. Don't waste your money

    • Any r3ecomendations for a decent one then??

      • you can honestly pick an awful lot of locks fashioning them out of paperclips with pliers… but just got mine delivered anyways haha

        • I recently left my keys inside and locked myself out and I was able to pick the lock on my front door with a spring from a peg in the back yard and a piece of wire I found by the road to use as a tension wrench.

  • Have this lockpick (as well as others) have to saw the quality of picks is extremely poor quality. They feel rough, look unfinished and even if purchased as a "gift" most people would immediately recognise the cheapness of this set.

  • A friend was locked out so I went over with the set from a previous deal. I probably should have read how to use it. I was raking for about 15 minutes but couldn't open it. Went looking on the street for a strand of the street sweeping brushes which break off are are easily found near the gutter. Bent the end with pliers, and that worked much better than the very soft tension thingy supplied with the set. Opened the lock pretty quickly but once we had the key, we found out that the lock was broken, as the key couldn't open it anymore. Had to change the cylinder. So don't practice on your door locks, and have a spare cylinder at home.

  • Mine just arrived, the black hardened steel end bits were all bent and hard to straighten.

Tried the practice lock and got it open in 2 minutes with the included rake, tried the single pin method and got it open in the same time.

Tried it in a real padlock (lockwood) and the rake tool broke straight away.
