  • Does this count for Velocity Platinum cards?

    • Nope. They do it to make people choose to transfer points to Velocity.

  • Does anyone know for the Explorer Card how long it took to have their 100k points added to their account once you spend the $1500?

    • I made a purchase 2 days ago. And I have the points on my account today. I didn't check yesterday.

      • Great! I just got my card today.

Great, you can buy me a $1500 gift then ;)

        • @NeX:

          Haha
Both of you can sell your points in the classifieds if you want $$$ ;)

@tuvz: I wonder who would buy them…. Oh wait! :D

  • If I had an Amex velocity card. Should I be using the transfer window for bonus points? Or would they not apply/ is there better use having it remain on my Amex

    • Don't you earn in Velocity points already?

      • I have an Amex Direct Velocity card and I thought (haven't received my first statement yet) the velocity points automatically go into the velocity account after you pay the bill? As said above, there is no incentive for Velocity to offer bonuses to Amex Direct Velocity cardholders.

  • Hello everyone,,

As of my understanding, 25% bonus only apply for Platinum Charge card holders as they are the only ones to accumulate Assent Premium points. Rest of the members will only get 15% Bonus.

    hope this helps,,,

  • great… just used up 17k AMEX points to pay for a $130 charge. Next time i'll save the points

Anyone know if there 15% bonus transfer specials come about often?

    Ta

  • Does anyone know if this is worth it when calculated?

  • Can someone help me with this?
With Velocity points, you trade 18000 points for $100 Myer card
With American Express points, you trade 13500 points for $100 Myer card.
That means the American Express points are worth more than the Velocity points.
So, why if I transfer 100000 American points to Velocity, I only get 86400 points (inc 15% bonus), i.e. much less, instead of more?

    • You should multiply 100000 * 1.15. Not divide.

      • 100000 Amex points are calculated as 75000 Velocity points, without the 15% bonus.

        • Sorry I assumed you had an Accent rewards not Gateway.

My personal view is only transferring points to any FF program if you're gonna booking a business class ticket.

      • I agree with you. For economy class, if we want to fly and pay by points, then from my experience, 20000 Velocity points are worth roughly 30000 American Express points. I just checked with flying Virgin from Sydney to Melbourne by economy class, then Virgin charges me 23000 points, while Amex charges me 34000 points.
Is Velocity points worth more with business class?

  • So, if we want gift cards then we should not transfer Amex points to Velocity points? Anyone has other ideas?

      sell the points for money

better off transferring to SQ krisflyer. Need a lot less points for the same award flight, similar taxes and you can book about a month earlier than on Velocity.

    • yeah but kirsflyer only last 3 years right?

      • And Velocity last only 2 years if you don't earn any more points during this period.

        • But all it takes is an $1 eBay purchase every 2 years to keep the points alive. Not hard at all

      • Why would you transfer points from Amex if you're not thinking to use them in the immediate future? Velocity has transfer bonuses at least twice a year.

Asia miles with Cathay seems to offer the sweet spot of Asia.

I find SQ to be a much better option, others may have differing needs. Velocity might be the better option if you want to book domestic travel.

It also depends on how many points you've already got in each program and how many points you earn per year.

Points are more useful together than spread over numerous programs.

And if you don't earn that many points each year, it might be harder to accumulate enough points for any meaningful redemption under programs like Asiamiles and Krisflyer (where points expire after a fixed number of years), and you might find Velocity to work out better for you.

PS. Planning to close the AMEX card might be a reason why someone might transfer AMEX points into a FF program without any imminent travel plan

  • Went to Amex site to take advantage of this.
Clicked on the option and saw it was 1pt=1pt.
Did a double take, went back out and back in, same thing.
Went back out to take a screen shot, got the shot, clicked link, and it is back to 4:3 now :(

can add the screen shot… how do I do this?
