This is the cheapest Surface Pro 4 Type Cover available currently if you don't mind the NFL team logo branding.

$85.99 + $8.28USD for shipping. Lowest ever price as per Camelcamelcamel.com

Compatible with and essentially the same as the new Surface Pro 2017 type cover except its not with the Alcantara fabric. Also backwards compatible with the Surface Pro 3 where the larger keys, track pad and better key travel seems to be a decent upgrade.

Previous cheapest was $113.05 delivered. RRP is $199.99 from various places like JB Hi-fi, or $158 via a grey importer like eglobal.

There are several team logos which are available for a similar price if the LA Rams logo isn't quite up your alley. I think logos adds a touch of colour and a bit of variety to the otherwise bog standard dark grey/blue that most people have.

Combine it with the previousSurface Pro 4 i5 128gb SSD, 4gb RAM deal from Amazon which has now dropped to its lowest ever of $828 shipped ($664.60 USD) and you can get the total package for $939.60 shipped($753.88 USD).

If you don't mind the average battery life (4-6 hrs for typical usage), then this is a killer deal compared with the newer Surface Pro 2017, which would cost ~$1800 for the same i5 spec when you factor in the type cover and pen that is now not included.

All prices quoted assumes a international transaction currency exchange fee free card like 28 degrees mastercard is used.

  • Gee, you wouldn’t want to be a Buccaneers fan…

Guy from IT walks into the room: "Who's using up all the bandwidth torrenting?"

Awkward glances at the guy with the pirate bay logo Surface Pro…

      "I'm just a buccaneers fan I swear!"

      • Awesome.

      Better than a browns fan…

I quite like the Minnesota Vikings logo which reminds me of Asterix and Obelisk.

Besides you could then go around saying "Oh Geez" in the Minnesotan Fargo accent :)

  • just want to know, can we write/annotate/highlight/scrabble on ANY pdf on surface pro (oneNote) using the pen?
or i have to buy separate software? not edit, just make note on the side for example, or highlight key words.

even if i bought the pdf legally (university books), i still can write on it?

    • +1

From my experience with the surface 3 yes you can.

You can import the PDF into one note and highlight and annotate on top of the pdf. Whether the PDF is a dodgy scan or a true text document will dictate whether it recognises the text you highlighted or whether it treats it as an image.

Drawboard from the MS store was also quite good and was free with my surface 3.

I used Drawboard to annotate ~2500 textbook pages last year. It's pretty solid. The normal version is free. Or you can pay like fifteen bucks for the pro one which has a bunch of tools for architects and designers.

Otherwise, you can use Xodo, which is completely free and nearly as good.

You can kind of do it in onenote, but it's annoying and clunky. I think the new version of IE lets you as well, with the built in Reader engine.

      • thanks. so for uni students surface is much better than macbook.
i heard cost of one paper version textbook is now $100-150 each
better get surface and then buy electronic versions.

OneNote is good and no additional software required.

      From desktop:
Drop and drop the PDF > "Insert Printout"

      From iOS:
Open the PDF file > Share > Copy to OneNote > Insert Printout

(You do it either from desktop or iOS, once sync you will see multiple devices.)

Once it is done, you can go to the your save location and start to write or draw as if on a paper.

I can't go back to Pen and Paper any more….

  • I regret buying the 4GB RAM version. Go for 8GB if you can afford it.

Feels a bit laggy for me. Still useable, but I'd rather have 16/256.

    • Indeed but the cheapest I've seen it was $1248 from Harvey Norman and that's if you had Amex rebate.

      https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/315308

At $400 extra when the device itself is only $828 makes it hard to justify…

Depends on your usage and needs though.

      • Yeah I know.

Hopefully there'll be some deals on 8/256 soon. Is the new SP out in Oz yet?

Windows 10 in my experience just doesn't run well on 4GB.

        • Yep, the new one has been available for a little while.
          Direct from MS:
          https://www.microsoft.com/en-au/surface/devices/surface-pro/…
Also at Harvey Norman, JBHifi, etc
(note that the pen is now optional on the new model)

        • @Gaz1: Looks like they just called it Surface Pro.

I wonder what next year's model will be called. SP2?

        • @Gaz1:
Huge discounts on SP4 at the moment makes them very tempting in comparison if the battery life is satisfactory enough.

          With education discount:
$1350+180+80 for i5, keyboard and pen =$1610. Vs $940 for this. Big difference imo.

        • @plasmapuff:

Pen is not included in the new one? Wow.

        • @lostn:
New one also got a price rise to $139.99!
          https://www.microsoft.com/en-au/store/d/surface/8ZL5C82QMG6B…

Old one is still around $95!

Essentially a stealth price increase for the pro 2017 4.5 Microsoft didn't name it the pro 5 as they felt it wasn't a big enough improvement.

I just got off microsoft australia support chat, and they informed me that devices sold internationally will have a 1 year limited warranty in australia. not 2 years or so by accc standards, but good enough for the price!

    • Thanks for the research.

My type cover arrived today :)
